How to round out banana cream?
submitted over 6 years ago by Doo__Dah

I’ve been playing around with TFA banana cream recipes and they’re all falling flat. I’ve used a few different flavour profiles, stared off using well rated recipes and then started tweaking them but they just don’t have any richness to them.

In a variety of combinations and percentages, I’ve tried it with:

Bavarian cream

Caramel

Sugar cookie

Marshmallow

Ethyl maltol

Peanut butter

Graham cracker (clear)

Basically I want the primary flavour to be banana, but I’d like a little more depth and thickness to it. Something that resembles a grilled banana, if anyone’s tried one!

Any suggestions for complimentary flavours that might round it out a bit? Or a better banana flavour to try working with? I’ve left at least a fortnight of steeping for all my experiments before concluding they’re not what I want, should I be giving it longer?

Also wondering if maybe I just don’t like this flavour, but it smells good and it tastes so close to what I want!

I'd start with a better banana. Something like VT banana custard would likely work better. It's in no way an actual custard though. Just a better creamy banana. WF banana puree may be a contender also.

Interesting, two mentions of VT banana. Definitely going to order some in and gave a play around, thank you!

Yeah not really into grilled fruits other than pineapple but one of my favorite combos is strawberry banana. I too started with tpa/la banana cream and wasn't working like I wanted. VT banana custard did the trick though. You'll likely see tpa in a lot of recipes especially older ones because that's what was available. We have better alternatives now.

Also not an expert, but maybe a little of TFA Pistachio could help get you where you need to be. It has an almost sweet nuttiness that could be what you're looking for

VT Banana Custard.

Don't be scared by the 'custard', it doesn't have any vanilla or any discernible eggieness making it bad. It's a great creamy banana. Add a touch of FLV Red Burley to dry it up a touch and that's probably grilled banana...

Oooh. That’s two mentions of VT banana custard, and only this morning I killed about an hour reading up on tobaccos because I’ve never used any & have been wanting to see how they could play with my go-to flavour profiles. I think I’m gonna order both of those, I will report back if it goes well - thanks!

FLV red burley is the workhorse tobacco. A nice simple nutty tobacco that works SnV. I would test 3%VT banana custard .5% FLV Red Burley as a starting point.

Even .5% red burley might be an overkill, I’d start around 0.2%

Where is a good place to buy VT flavors from?

(I live in the U.S.)

Repost:

**Banana Custard**

  • TFA Banana Cream 5-6% (can sub in Lorann's if you have it)
  • CAP Vanilla Custard 4%
  • TFA Bavarian Cream 3%
  • CAP Sugar Cookie 2%
  • FA Fresh Cream 1%
  • FA Almond 1%

Base is fairly self-explanatory other than the SC and Almond to give some extra depth. Both pair well with other elements in the recipe

Enjoy!!

I’m not an expert but... maybe some FW Hazelnut.

This has been on my shopping list for a while actually. Do you find you use it in many recipes? I like to get a bit of bang for my buck and avoid ones that don’t get used often!

FW Hazelnut is one of 5 in my ca. 100 flavors that I actually reordered a bigger amount of than I had before.

It's not a main flavor but a really good sidekick imo.

It’s a very versatile flavour and I’ve been using it only, and not that often, as an accent flavour (0.25%-0.5%).

Two reviews,

I've been mixing a weird take on what I imagine to be Namberjuice's Glacier Banana, but it comes off a little Windex-y. But, if I don't think about it too much, its decent.

Banana Cream 5%

TFA Ripe Banana 2.7%

W-23 (to taste)%

Oddly enough, its what I'm vaping now.

Holy ripe banana bat man. Maybe move that decimal to the left and we are talkin

Oh geez, okay I'll try that. I didn't know that was high!

Yeah the ripe banana hits hard - I'm still figuring out how much to add in my mixes.

Also takes like at least 2 weeks to steep when I add it in anything...

I find that a drop of TFA cucumber and TFA honeydew helps with both the slightly ripe qualities and the fleshiness of the banana "meat", respectively.

Do you have a specific recipe that's causing problems?

Do you often add Ethyl Maltol when you use TFA Banana Cream?

Have you tried LorAnn's Banana Cream? It's my favorite and doesn't taste like runts, as most banana flavors do.

What percentages did you use those flavors and what percentage do you generally use TFA Banana Cream at?

Can you link to your flavor stash?

That’s tough. It’s all using the runts chemical I believe. Which I have an aversion to.

All I can recommend is LA banana cream and where it’s more of an enhancer than primary ingredient. Only problem is it does fade quickly in my experience:

Ive always enjoyed a limited amount of FW banana to bump up that fruity sweetness of my banana cream. Start with .25% and work up from there. Some flavors work well solo. Some need friends. I have very few lone wolf flavors.

Wonder flavours has recipes on there website for a glazed banana recipe... it includes the additions of WF flavours butterscotch cream pie, caramel butter, hazelnuts and cream, and Tahitian vanilla cream... maybe adding similar flavours to your recipe will work.

I think FLV Avocado can tend towards a banana note and that might be useful here. Can't speak to other avocado flavors.

And if you have FLV Soursop, to me it has a very very heavy brown sugar thing going on. I think it might work well to enrich a banana.

Have you tried mixing up the excellent Boss Reserve Clone? Maybe this will give you some inspiration.

If it's just the banana part that's falling flat you need to compliment it with another banana. FA Banana might work here. TFA Banana Nut Bread, not so much.

HS Italian Cream goes great with TFA Banana Cream and will give you the extra richness, depth and thickness you're looking for.

Here's my third attempt at a banana cream recipe I mixed a few days ago. I haven't vaped it yet but it tastes delicious. This attempt introduces a new ingredient to me, so I just did everything at 2% and will tweak the percents next attempt if I decide to keep the VT Banana Custard (seems awesome so far but like I said I haven't vaped it yet).

  • 2% Italian Cream (Hangsen)
  • 2% Cream (Milky Undertone) (One On One)
  • 2% Banana Cream (TFA)
  • 2% Banana Custard (Vape Train)

Odd thing you ask. I recently got TFA Bananas Foster. I mixed it this morning. Standalone, 6%. That thing tastes like caramelized banana.
