So I've been mixing for a few months now, and it has been going ok, but not great. Everything I mix either tastes like something isn't quite right, or I overdo it and the flavours are muted.
Decided on a whim to try one of the "my first order" recipes, and ordered some cactus and sweet guava to try to make the "prickly victory" recipe. They arrived today.
I think it's a fitting name for the recipe, because it is out of this world!
I've lurked on here for a while, but I'd like to say a massive thank you to the people who built this community - you rock. I think I can troubleshoot my other failed mixes to see where I've gone wrong, mainly over-flavouring I reckon.
I added a few drops of Bavarian cream into the mix (a small batch) and it seems to smooth the flavour it a bit.
My faith is restored, looking at other recipes now!
Edit to fix a to typo that bugged me
Congrats! Be sure to share that Coconut Rum recipe you were working on in the Monthly Thread when you feel like you've nailed it.
Thanks dude! I think I'm close - got the steep time worked out, and the flavours, just need to mix some batches with less flavour % added and I think I'm there!
It's always best to find recipes and use reccomended flavor % found on diy ejuice website but it's best to be on the conservative side for any substitutions. Sadly you can't trust high ratings as more often than not it's a large circle jerk from YouTube fans or people who simply think it sounds good. You can usually trust recipes with 3 engredients with 3 to 8 ratings, anything beyond is hit or miss. It's in my opinion that simple recipes tend to be the ones that shine which is why first recipe threads with simple flavors are great.
They recommend the flavors that give you the best bang for your buck and usually keep them simple. 3 flavor recipes are all you need, but if it requires two of the same you can consider that one in that formula. ie., 2 strawberries, 2 peaches, 2 french vanilla. I'm careful to not consider 2 creams that are not very similar as one, I would consider vanilla bean ice cream and fresh cream as two separate, but Bavarian cream and vanilla custard as one since Bavarian cream is an English custard, but more whipped.
I've played with prickly victory a bit. Here are some of the flavors I've added, combined, and/or removed.

Dragonfruit (TPA)
Papaya (TPA)
Peach (Juicy) (TPA)
Pear (FA)

Meringue (FA)
Sweet Cream (TPA)
Vanilla Swirl (TPA)

============================

Acai Berry (TPA)
Grapes (INW)
Raspberry (INW)

Meringue (FA)
Sweet Cream (TPA)
Vanilla Swirl (TPA)
That's how I felt. I started with just random flavors and made vapeable juice, using vapeable in the loosest terms. Bought the majority of "my first order" flavors and had good juice.
Gratz :) Link to recipe?
I mixed prickly victory as my first recipe. I love that recipe with 2 drops of CAP Super Sweet per 15ml.
That's pretty much what I did, but with the Bavarian cream - I'll try the super sweet with the next batch!
Super sweet has citrus or something in it that helps fruits pop in a recipe. Absolutely noticable.
I also tried -
FA Fuji - 4%
CAP Super Sweet - 0.50%
Ws-23 - 0.50%
(Optional) FA Liquid Amber - 0.50%
As a newbie and beginner, cant express how much i love it. 100ml cost me approximately 1 USD. Great backup recipe for me.
Reminds me of a good blend called mango unchained
>Citurs Punch TFA 1%
>Sweet Mango capella 6%
>Cactus 0.8%
Can substitute dragonfruit around 1.5% Cactus is similar but jucier, wet, and more concentrated and without AP which is a candy sweetener. Sweet Mango capella has plenty of AP as, but their regular mango does not.
To spice it up you can add 1% FLV wild melon.
It's my ADV
