PSA: Mind the caps for your bottles
submitted over 6 years ago by kuri_sanTouDiketones, Schmiketones

Last night in the dark I was dripping some juice but there was resistance from the bottle and nothing was flowing out. I went into the light to find this stuck inside the tip. It was a bitch to get out but I managed with some tweezers. It was a very hard plastic and fit snug inside. Pretty much in the underside of the cap directly in the middle there's a bit of plastic that fits into the tip to prevent leaking after you screw it on and it broke off. If I had continued squeezing the bottle I could see the tip blasting off and a deluge of juice spilled all over my mod, my clothes, and everywhere else.

FYI, I re-use my bottles and I guess this is just normal wear and tear.

Like with a lot of things in life, if it's harder than usual, something is wrong lol.

It's a remix I'm playing with so I'm not exactly proud of it or anything. It's good so far though. So far it's on day 11 steeping and I just drip a little every day for tasting.

Bavarian Cream (TPA) 1.25%
Cheesecake (Graham Crust) (TPA) 1.5%
Dulche de Leche (TPA) .75%
New York Cheesecake (CAP) 2%
Vanilla Custard v1 (CAP) 4%

Grant posted the recipe before he started the company.

It's something like:

15% Cap vanilla custard

2% TPA dulche de leche

And then some said 2% EM and some said 1-2 drops per ten ml.

Is this for real? 15%? Yikes.

That's way too high. I've seen it, and mixed it, and 8% custard, 1.5% ddl

Capella’s Vanilla Custard is great on its own, mixed anywhere between 10% and 20%.

I use it at 10% as a single flavour.

My plastic bottles tend to split along the seam where the two halves of the bottle were put together. It usually happens from taking out and reinserting the tips to refill them, and they almost always split along the threading. This allows the cap to fall in my lap and I’m drowned in a deluge of juice.

Finally someone else has the same problem I've been having. I dont know the cause for sure but it sucks. I go to squeeze out some liquid and some comes out of the cracked part and gets all over. I thought maybe I just bought cheap bottles. But certain flavors could also be the culprit. I throw them away now if I see if they've split on that seam.

Watermelon or lemonade?

I wish I saw that they split before I dumped a bottle of juice in my lap. I look every time I take the top off now. Just had to learn that lesson the hard way.

I'm no expert in plastics but maybe they're just a cheap version. Some of my bottles (of the same type) seem a little firmer and way less prone to the cracking or splitting. I've got bottles from both Ebay and Amazon. Maybe I should start getting them from a dedicated bottle store but I have so many already. I'm also just thinking of going to all PET bottles maybe, but will miss the squishy-ness.

Do you get your bottles from Nic River? I just had a bottle do this to me last week for the first time ever

I have bottles from a few places but this one in the pic is from NicRiver. I think they all come from different manufacturers from China tho.

I watched my cousin explode a bottle because of this problem.

Personally I only use plastic for mixing and have 30ml glass for carrying around.

Huh, how about that.
