It's a brew-tiful Day to Announce Coffee as flavor of the week!!!
submitted over 6 years ago by ID10-TThe Kingmaker

As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!

Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.

#This week's flavor is... Coffee

How did that get to be the FOTW?

It was requested! If you're not interested in the upcoming FOTWs, please take this opportunity and comment to request one that interests you (or send me a PM to do that). Please request something more suitable for June than Eggnog, if you do, your request can cut in line ahead of that one.

Past FOTW posts can be found here

The NOTED podcasts, which are basically video FOTWs, are listed on this sheet, maintained by /u/apexified

Next week's flavor will be: Pomegranate

The week after that will be: American Brand Tobaccos (TFA, CAP, LB, FLV, PUR, FR, FW, DF, etc)

The week after that will be: European Brand Tobaccos (FA, INW, GF, JF, BF, etc)

The week after that will be: Asian Brand Tobaccos (HS, FE/SC, Reka, etc)

The week after that will be: Lemon

The week after that will be: Hard Candy

The week after that will be: Donuts

The week after that will be: Boysenberry

The week after that will be: Popcorn

The week after that will be: Pistachio

The week after that will be: Nut Mixes and Mixed Nuts (Macadamia, Walnut, Cashew)

The week after that will be: Anise and Black Licorice <--- I hate you OdieDoodah

The week after that will be: Exotic Spices and Spice Blends

The week after that will be: Plum

The week after that will be: Pineapple

The week after that will be: Eggnog <--- date on this one might get moved down

Well, since it is coffee, I can share a recipe I make that my dad is using for 5 years nonstop - he doesn't vape anything else - not joking.

 • TPA Dulce de Leche 3%
 • TPA Hazelnut 2%
 • TPA French Vanilla Deluxe 2%
 • INW Tiramisu 0.5% (can be switched by TPA Tiramisu 0.5% also, not as good - longer steep, 25 days)

60VG/40PG - 15 days steep

Edit: Credits - original recipe: http://receitadiy.com/319/Hermanos

That sounds amazing. It figures I don't have any of those flavors to try it out.

Dude, don't sleep on TFA French Vanilla Deluxe. That is some tasty stuff. Just make sure you get the Deluxe version because TFA has a couple of other French Vanillas that are not the same.

Here's list of all the coffee flavors I tried last time Coffee was the FOTW, or prior to the last time Coffee was FOTW:

 • FA Dark Bean
 • FA Booster (Tiramisu)
 • JF Espresso
 • VT Caramel Mocha
 • WF Crispy Coffee
 • FA Italian Relax (Cappuccino)
 • INW Coffee WG
 • FLV Mocha
 • FLV Biscotti
 • FLV Coffee
 • VT Ice Coffee
 • LB Cappuccino
 • FA Up
 • WF Smooth Cappuccino Cream
 • WF Brazilian Coffee
 • FW Cafe Coffee
 • VT Arabica Coffee
 • FLV Irish Cream
 • VT Caffe Latte
 • DIYFS Cafe Napoleon
 • VT Coffee Milk Froth
 • VT Coffee Liqueur
 • (and I guess FLV Connecticut Shade because although it's a tobacco flavor, the coffee note is strong with that one)

I didn't want to type out notes and opinions on every last one of those that very few if any person would care to read, but AMA about those coffee flavors.

Here's a list of Coffee flavors I'm going to try this week:

 • OOO Coffee (Black)
 • OoO Keoke Coffee
 • DIYFS Cafe Coffee
 • JF Coffee
 • Hiliq Coffee
 • Nic Vape Coffee
 • RFSC Coffee
 • MB Fresh Coffee
 • MB Dark French Coffee
 • INW Irish Coffee
 • DIYFS Creme De Cafe
 • FW Cappuccino
 • SA Cappuccino
 • INW Cappuccino
 • RFSC Caramel Cappuccino

Anyone who's already tried one these want to warn me about what I'm getting myself into so I'm braced for impact? Or congratulate me on the wonderful choice(s) I've made so I have something to look forward to? Anyone have a recipe using one of these new-to-me flavors that I should have a look at?

I'm just stunned you still haven't tried INW Coffee o.O

It’s not the same as Inawera Coffee Wera Garden? Which INW line is it from?

by cjinctover 6 years ago

No it's not, IMO the WG version is vile.

It's from the original e-aromat line. Over at Vaperstek, it's listed as kawa (coffee)

by ID10-Tover 6 years agoThe Kingmaker

I have not tried any TFA coffee flavors, because I don't know anyone who likes them and I've heard horror stories.

I know some people like it, but I think FA Dark Bean is nasty. I don’t know how anyone vapes any amount of this ever. It tastes like you put espresso coffee, burnt popcorn that had been sprayed by a skunk, and dirt in drip coffee maker, brewed it, and then added a couple of sugar packets to that. It wasn’t enough to change my cotton and coils, I had to wash my RDA afterward. FA Booster (Tiramisu) has a really nice ladyfinger cookie buried in here, and accurate cocoa notes, but unfortunately nothing resembling mascarpone flavor or richness, and even more unfortunately, it’s all soaked in, not liqueur-spiked espresso like it’s supposed to be, but coffee brewed by an anthropomorphic skunk who had recently sprayed skunk spray and burned some popcorn in the same kitchen where he made the coffee. Both as a vaper and lover of actual tiramisu, the result disgusts me. FA Italian Relax (Cappuccino) is mostly cream, with very little coffee, but I don’t want more of that coffee, because it tastes burnt and slightly skunky. It’s also quite harsh on top, not smooth and soothing like a cream should be, with a sweeter finish that tastes like half scalded milk and half coconut milk. FA UP is just odd. It’s coffee, cream, and... cereal? I don’t know why there’s a bakery flavor in here. It’s coffee forward and that coffee is not terrible, it’s kind of burnt but not dark, like a light roast coffee that’s been on a warmer too long or at too high a temp. There’s a little milky cream that makes an appearance and then there’s some bakery that is, for whatever reason, supposed to be a cereal. I guess it’s cereal? It’s kinda dry and gritty, almost graham cracker like. It finishes on that note and I’m not sure what you’re supposed do with that other than use this to add a coffee note to a bakery recipe, or get really creative, but don’t try to sell it to me as a straight up cup of coffee unless you’ve found a way to hide that grainy bakery. No skunk spray or burnt popcorn or anything like that.

The only FW Coffee flavor I've tried so far is FW Cafe Coffee. I like it and even made a tasty recipe out of it, but it doesn't taste like real coffee. It's more like coffee-flavored candy with a hint of caramel. Not quite Bali’s Best coffee candy, because of the hint of caramel in the finish, but nowhere near as much caramel as a Wherther’s Coffee Caramel hard candy. The actual coffee flavor tastes like artificial coffee flavoring and the sweetness and even the mouthfeel is very candylike. So for actual coffee, this is a no, but for a coffee candy with a hint of caramel, yes, nothing weird or off there. I kind of want to add some of it to toffee for a coffee toffee. Worth noting this flavor is black as night and will destroy your coils.

WF Crispy Coffee carries some of those stereotypical coffee off notes. It is based on a candy bar called Coffee Crisp that you can’t get in the US. I’ve had the candy bar this is based on, because a Canadian mixer send me a generous amount of them. I loved them. It’s like an oversized Kit-Kat, in that it’s a kit-kat type wafer covered in chocolate, but inside there’s a very sweet coffee creme filling. This WF flavor has all three of those components - crispy wafer, chocolate, and sweet coffee cream - and they’re mostly done well, even the chocolate. I think if you’ve ever had a recipe with FA Dark Bean or Booster that you liked, you’ll probably love this one. It tries very hard to be enjoyable for me, but misses the mark due to very slight coffee off-notes. It’s like I’m trying to eat my Coffee Crisp in the bedroom, while someone has burnt popcorn in the kitchen and someone else has run over a skunk a block or two down the road. It’s hard for me to really enjoy anything when my senses are being even very gently assaulted by that. But if I try my hardest to ignore it, I get accurate crispy wafer up front, a little chocolate without any problems, and lots of sweet coffee cream with aforementioned off notes that mostly come in close to the finish. Very smooth vape. If you get past the off notes, the wafer bit is going to have some issues working outside of a bakery situation, though it could probably work in a mix where you don’t want chocolate, since the chocolate part is more subtle. WF Smooth Cappuccino Cream comes pre-loaded with sucralose. Sweet almost too sweet thick heavy cream, yet slightly bitter coffee top notes. I tasted a lot of caramel, that wouldn’t be implied by the name, but wasn't unpleasant. It was actually very very smooth, but nothing really to suggest it’s a real cappuccino, more like some starbucked up concoction with lots of heavy cream with a little espresso or at least dark roast coffee, plus a heavy dose of caramel syrup, plus as if that wasn’t sweet enough, a Splenda packet or two - the sweetness here is just almost over the top to the point of being a little cloying, and while I didn’t vape enough of it to judge, it’s probably not super nice to coils. I’m also getting just a hint of maple in here, and while it’s not a terrible thing, what’s it doing in there? Some kind of Canadian signature? I dunno. WF Brazilian Coffee I would describe as delightfully mediocre, which is actually a great thing in the terrible world of coffee flavors. It tastes like a cup not super fresh gas station coffee with a package of that fiber/sweetener combo added to it, so it has some sweetness to it and an odd thickness without being creamy or anything like that. But is otherwise just very flat, dull, and slightly dirty coffee, like medium roast coffee that’s been kept warm for awhile but not burned. A bit cardboardy, like coffee made from slightly stale grounds (or with fiber added to it), but no burnt butter popcorn or skunk ass or any of those other weird notes.

RF Coffee SC is kind of like a cup of coffee with a lot of Stevia in it, if you add a touch of Holy Vanilla to it though (2% coffee, 0.5% HV) it's actually a decent, but pretty sweet, cup of coffee.

Real Tobacco Extracts. They do tea and coffee too and make excellent concentrates. Cleaner that N-E-T.com but a little less full flavored at least with the tobaccos.

Really nice people too. I remember the first time I ordered from them I got a few tobaccos and about 5-10min later the owner called me and wanted to make sure everything on my order was right and that I had picked the right tobaccos for my tastes and discussed tobaccos in general for a bit and then he recommend some of his other stuff he thought I would like and to my surprise all of them were in the pack when I got it.

On a scale of 1 to Golden Gate Bridge jumper how much did FW Cappucino ruin your world view?

2 points

by ID10-Tover 6 years agoThe Kingmaker

It falls around the deeply disappointing and confusing mark on that scale. Others are worse, I still think FA Dark Bean is the most suicide-inducing of all the coffee-type flavors.

Avoid Hangsen's Caramel Mocha. Read somewhere on Reddit that it was a good choice. Then couldn't find that review/recipe at all.

Their Caramel Mocha reminds me of a stale Rolo candy mashed up into the hospital machine coffee that you get in a paper cup. Except the caramel isn't that noticeable and the coffee is WAY in the background. Longer steep times do not help. At this juncture, not sure if there is even any way to use it... and it's barely vapeable. Not gross, not skunky or burnt but not really that good at all. Used at 2.5% and was afraid to go any higher.

by ShoryukenPizzaover 6 years ago

I'm so happy I can finally contribute to something this week, but unfortunately I can't take full credit for this as this was adapted from another recipe I found on here about a year ago almost.

Coffee (???) (To be titled)

TPA Cheesecake Graham Crust 2%

FA Cream Fresh 3%

FW Creamy Hazelnut 1%

FW Meringue .1%

FW Sweetener (to taste, .3%)

FA Tiramisu .16%

TPA Vanilla Swirl 2%

FA Vienna Cream 3%

Its a decent rich flavor. I'm still new to mixing my own stuff and adapting others, but I was really craving coffee and cappuccinos without the caffeine. If this looks like someone's recipe, let me know so I can figure out how long I should steep this. After a day or so after a SNV, the flavor profile completely changes for me, but my friends say its great.

Good on ya mate - cheers for sharing! Did you mean FA Meringue, and at 1%?

1 points

by ShoryukenPizzaover 6 years ago

Nope, I find Meringue is very overpowering so I just add a little drop, but it could be a typo when I put it in the recipe site the first time. I will try 1% and mix it again!

I don't mix with coffee much because I haven't had a ton of luck with it. Maybe 1 in 10 or 20. Real Tobacco Extracts has some really good coffee (and tea and tobacco extracts) though.

by CloudsOverOrionover 6 years ago

Instead of eggnog you could do green herbs with flavors like Zen Garden. Early herb gardens should be producing by then so it's mildy seasonal.

I have FA Up and Italian Relax amd I have no clue where to begin with either of them lol. I made a pumpkin spice latte thing with the IR but kind of ruined it w TFA Cinnamon Danish Swirl. Idk what that cinnamon is supposed to be but it's not good, and I have 30ml lmao.

3 points

by juthincover 6 years agoI improved Grack and all I got was this lousy flair

Yeah. Besides, we need to time it so certain flavors come up at set times. Like we make Honey FotW at christmas so we can all think of how, while we sip some Evan Willams , /u/ID10-T is questionng his life choices and vaping 5% TFA Honey.

2 points

by CloudsOverOrionover 6 years ago

Doh! I need to come here more often lol

2 points

by vApe_Escapeover 6 years agoTobacconist

/u/ID10-T can we do a grains week?

Also maybe a uncommon flavors month and/or uncommon pairing week?

And since we are doing tobaccos maybe tack on Tobacco Absolutes and naturally extracted tobaccos since everything else is pretty much just synths.

Edit: I also kind of feel like separating tobaccos just into the country the tobacco flavors come from is kind of odd and will end up with lots of the same stuff every week vs something like a tobacco origin or type. American tobaccos like flue cured Virginia, Smokey tobaccos like latakia, Orientals like izmir, English blends, etc

1 points

by ID10-Tover 6 years agoThe Kingmaker

I don’t know what we’d do for grains besides FLV Wheat and FE Sweet Rice.

There’s very little chance CBV will let us get through three weeks of tobaccos without quite a bit of content regarding TAs and NETs, which reminds me, I need to add Stix Mixx to list of American brand tobaccos.

Uncommon flavors/pairings idea gives me a though, what about flavors that have such abstract names that you’d have to try them (or rely on reviews) to even have any idea what they are. Want to help me compile a list of those? The first two that come to mind are FA Ozone and FW Reindeer Poop, for example.
