I was thinking, fellow flavor mixers, that we could share our failed mixes, in a formal way, with a reddit flair "fail". This could be useful to know for example not to blend Camembert flavor with Chocolate (imaginary example).
How about, "What went in your Jug of Shame this week?" to piggyback on the weekly questions thread. Most of us(I hope not only me) have an old 120ml slowly filling up with remnants of failed mixes we just couldn't power all the way through and six months of steeping won't remedy.
Saving it up for that emergency day when an order gets delayed or after mis-judging how many mixes were left in our inventory. That we'll hate-vape with thoughts of "This'll teach me not to restock in time." :D
this sounds awful! I have a gallon jug that I've filled about 3/4ths of the way up over the years with failed mixes. desserts, fruits, florals, wacky experimentals, the thing is fuckin shit dark brown, almost black at this point.
The next time I hate myself (scheduled for sometime next month) I'm gonna drip that shit
On days I'm particularly filled with self loathing I make myself vape out of my suicide bottles.
No need to wait until you're running low, there's no time like the present to punish yourself!
How do they normally taste? I imagine it would be like mixed fruit if I did that
I have one going for fruity stuff, one for creamy stuff.
Taste varies over time, of course, but neither bottle is particularly good. Usually. Most of the time the flavor is ok ish, with weird chemical notes hanging around. I've had to immediately dump a tank and rewick out of horror, and I've been kinda surprised in a good way.
Beats drain pouring leftovers though.
Mixing different bad juices gone wrong into one nasty abomination sounds so terrible that I now have to try it. Thanks for the tip!
I don't know. What's important is that people can find easily so with a flair, you click on it and you have all the fails.
I've got one big fail that haunted me. Behold: Tastes Like Grandma
This mix was absolutely terrible, tasted like really cheap dirt weed.
I tried making a buttery grape jelly biscuit. It tastes like wine with slight beer like notes to it.
I gave it to a a young coworker and he was pleased to get free juice. I usually give him all my fails. For the most part I'm just picky but this stuff was something else. I'll find out on Monday what he thinks about it.
I think one of my most common fails for me is being too eager to get done and I accidentally mix up the percentage column with the weight column halfway through the recipe. I usually catch it before I put the whole amount into the bottle but then I have to spend even more time fixing it. Sorry, I know this isn't really what you were asking for
I'm new to mixing, but I kept doing this last night...thankfully it didn't hurt anything cause it was 1.88ml but 1.96g
I once mixed TFA Pecan at 6%. It was a very unpleasant eye opening experience.
Oh god I'm surprised that wasn't fatal
I didn't die but I haven't been the same since. Those closest to me said it changed me. I completely lack all human emotions now. But I'm a master at mimicking them to fit in todays society.
I think flavorah should chime in here with an explanation for waffle.
They were practicing for making crunch cereal?
My first fail was starting by going all out flavourah. All of their flavours contain alcohol which makes juices harsh. I read about harshness and wrote about flavours used but everyone blamed the nicotine. It was weird because I use best nicotine on market (chemnovatic ). So I bought flavours without alcohol and instantly started to mix juice of commercial quality. This subreddit should definitely put some information about this to new mixers, would save them money and worries.
If Flavorah made all juices harsh then they would not be that popular. I think a lot of people start with TPA or Capella based on price anyway. This is a great resource if you didn't know of it. Also this where you can lookup the MSDS of the product and see what it has. Generally anything I make with Flavorah is not a shake n vape and needs time to steep but I don't use them that often anymore.
There are absolutely some flavors that contain alcohol from most companies. Sometimes enough to be very noticeable. I'm not sure if I'm just sensitive to it or what but it bothers me too with certain flavors. I just have to let those steep longer or avoid them. If this is something you want to avoid then you will need to be proactive and look at the MSDS for whatever you are buying. If you check the second link above you can see that all of their flavors have different ethyl alcohol concentrations. Some are around 1% while others are 40-70%.
Coconut is using an older MSDS I think and doesn't list much. Pineapple has 68-74% ethyl alcohol, sweet cream has 39-45% ethyl alcohol. So you were working with a lot of high alcohol flavors. I'm no scientist but I believe the ones in higher alcohol percentages require that to keep the flavor stable in the bottle. I'm guessing it has something to do with the chemicals solubility in water/pg/vg vs alcohol but someone correct me if I'm wrong so I can learn.
I went over your previous post on harshness and everything does point to your nicotine in that thread. It may not have been that but the evidence there seems to support it. That doesn't mean that was the actual problem but based on what you posted it was a good conclusion.
I did this fail last week... mixing 2 chocolates... what could go wrong... Maine it needs to steep longer. Lol http://tjek.nu/r/rkCW
I've mixed two juices that are unvapably bad. I also posted those recipes because some people like unvapably bad stuff. (Both mixes were given away to people with taste so questionable they loved those mixes.)
(For those interested, the recipes in question were named Holy Shite and The Habs)
I added "Fail" to the list of post flairs you can choose so anyone who wants to do this can go for it.
thanks,
Worst thing I have ever vaped in my entire life that I almost wanted to puke. I was so shocked, I kept trying to vape it. Seriously, reading the ingredients, my brain doesn't understand how this could be so awful.
TFA Boysendberry 8%
TFA Menthol 2%
TFA Koolada 1%
Cap Super Sweet 1%
Years ago. I was so excited to start. And wanted to make a really good tobacco flavor .. it was my first juice I ever made. And I will never forget it. Because it was one of the worst experiences possible.. while mixing, I thought "This is gonna taste just like a cig! Or better". I followed like 30 or 35% on the calc.. i thought it would be this easy..anyways after shaking it up, I was beyond excited. (I really thought it was gonna taste amazing..) As I raised my old 510 driptip atomizer and took the first puff, I immediately knew I done f'd up. The most vile, poo taste ever....... immedietly dropped my vape and died....
I have not used M-type tobacco concentrate again after this experience. It was unlike anything i could of imagined tasting. Rotten beef, moldy chicken nuggets, dead flesh, with chemicals on top, does not even come close. The taste didn't go away for days. My M-type mishap almost drove me away from diy ejuice. But now I'm not afraid of any (bad recipes) I make.
