RDAs for juice testing? What setups are you all using for testing flavours & mixes?
submitted over 6 years ago by ObnoxiousOldBastard

What setups are you all using for testing flavours & mixes? I'm just getting started with DIY mixing, & I don't want to waste ingredients or do any more work than I have to when I make up a new mix & give it a test vape? How do y'all do it, & what advice do you have for noobs like me who're starting from scratch?

And of course, if there are any good FAQs out there, please point me at them! :)

EDIT: Based on all the recommendations for the Oumier Wasp Nano, I've checked it out, & it looks like a pretty good choice for the reasons y'all have mentioned - especially it being easy to swap out wicks - so I've ordered one.

Thanks everyone for all your advice; it's been really helpful. :)

You should test your flavors on something you regularly use to vape.

This. An RDA designed to deliver max flavor is going to give you a different experience if you don't normally vape on such things.

I vape with tanks, not RDAs. It would obviously be crazy to make an entire tank of juice for testing, plus the waste & hassle of having to throw out a coil & wash out a tank between flavours.

This is just me but, I feel like I need to vape about 10mls of a new flavor to really get to know it. In the past I've used a Baby Beast for testing (That's what I used most vaping). I got a bunch of generic (Fasttech) Q2 styled coils for really cheap. I used those and vaped a few tanks of a flavor. Sometimes I'd switch to a similar flavor, sometimes throw the coil away.

I'm getting into RDAs right now. They've got so much better over the years, similar to tanks. I like the evolution but I'm getting off topic. You should try different ways to test flavors. You will eventually find a way that works best for you. Now a days, I use a Drop Solo RDA.

I might not have been super clear there. What I mean is that I intend to do my testing on an RDA, but I do my regular vaping with a tank system. I can see myself eventually getting to the point where it takes mls to really work out the subtleties of a complicated mix, but at this point, I only need to know the basics of a flavour.

I Would just grab the smallest, cheapest single coil you can find. A clone, or the C4, or the oumier wasp nano. The latter I picked up for probably about 7 dollars.

It doesn't have to be anything special. Just something to use once or twice a week when you're seeing where your mixes are at.

Personally, I use an Oumier Wasp Nano and a Wotofo Profile to test flavors and recipes. The wasp is a great design for building (single coil) but in my experience it spits a lot of juice (even with a long drip tip installed). Maybe just my coil build though. The Profile is designed for mesh coils and it has been nothing short of amazing for me considering the last time I used mesh was with a Genesis. Good flavor and airflow, easy as hell to build and wick.

Spit back is ONLY caused by your wicking not being tight enough in the coil. I wick my wasp super super tight and never get spit back

I picked up a decent Entheon clone from 3fvape, works a charm for flavour testing individual concentrates and mixes.

Thanks mate. :)

Now all I need are people's thoughts on which RDAs to use, & how to use them. :)

It’s still early yet in the US here. I use a goon and recently picked up one of the drop’s for stupid cheap and they’re the same to me. u/EdibleMalfunction was just talking about the C4.

Also, this should probably go in the weekly questions thread.

Ah, I see. It's late Sunday night over here.

Any single coil flavor banger rda is great for testing.

I choose them due to not having to rewick 2 coils every time since you just have the one. I personally like to rewick with each flavor, so not having to do this twice every time makes sense to me.

Usually I rock my Psyclone Mods Entheon and Hadaly for juice testing days. If I like said juice, it’ll graduate to my ADV Recoil Rebel!

[SXK Hadaly Clone] (https://www.fasttech.com/product/6228800-sxk-hadaly-styled-rda-rebuildable-dripping) and a [Wotofo Recurve] (https://eciggity.com/wotofo-recurve-24mm-rda/). I also test it in a big airy but still flavorful rda like the Kennedy 25 and Pulse 24.

+1 to both of these. I started on the SXK Hadaly clone and recently switched to the Recurve. To me the flavor is almost the same, maybe with slightly less top notes on the Recurve, but the issue of oversquonking is almost completely eliminated. The only con on the Recurve is having to get used to the postless deck and the o-rings getting tight around the drip tip over time. Both of these will provide some of the best flavor you've ever experienced with the benefit of only needing to rewick one coil. Highly recommend!

We use an assortment to reflect what our customers would use, so we have Kylin II Rta, Baby Beast, Vgod RDA and a team member who uses an assortment. Myself ( the one who creates ) I use the Drop Dead RDA and if it passes that, the Kylin II for a tank or two. Hope that helps.

Currently I use a KRMA and a TM24 Pro for testing, mainly because they're just what I'm usually vaping. Might pick up an Asmodus C4 just for juice testing.

I recently got a haku venna rda clone from ebay, it is amazing. Also the asmodus c4 and Blitz hermetic are good if you arent comfortable with buying a clone

This is rough, but it gives you an idea if you'll like it or not if you are frugal like me.

Bottle of premixed 60/40, drop a ml into a small shallow container, add 1 drop concentrate of choice. Mix with toothpick. This ends up about 5%. Drench short wick in a single coil rig.

This obvs won't work for steep tests.

Thanks, that sounds like a pretty good way to test individual flavours.

It's hmm, okay. Works to exclude. Cheap!

Of course you are going to be left with 9ml of "how will I use this now?" stuff though. My suggestion, additive experiments.
