Hi everyone, it's been a while I first posted about my long quest to create an authentic jam on toast, inspired by Just Jam's offering.
I've been neglecting my mixing for a bit, but have made some exciting progress today!
With everyone's suggestions from the last thread, I made an order for many concentrates. Unfortunately, none of them ended up being what I was looking for :(
I then noticed a new comment from /u/JimDoom1 who suggested I look into RainbowVapes' Intense range toast, and Chef's rebottle of Cupcake World's strawberry Jam.
RainbowVapes Strawberry Jam on toast arrived today, and immediately I knew it was the one. At 4% it has the EXACT jammy strawberry I've been looking for, with maybe a touch too much of the bread note.
Looking at Cupcake World's site, I see they offer both "strawberry jam" and "bread" individually. I can't be sure, but I suspect these are what make up RainbowVapes' Strawberry Jam on toast concentrate. I'll have to order them and find out, I suppose.
For now, I'm thoroughly enjoying the following recipe:
RV Strawberry Jam on Toast - 3.5%
CAP Golden Butter - 1%
CAP Super Sweet - 0.25%
This is in need of refinement, which will require the individual Jam and Toast concentrates (so I can tone down the toast), but if you are looking for a solid jam on toast vape, this should tide you over for the time being!
Huge thanks to /u/JimDoom1 for the tip, I was starting to go crazy ordering obscure fruit concentrates!
Really happy for the fact that you are getting there. Keep up the good work for your perfect juice!
You may want this
I was back on this profile lately (3rd time around maybe? but Blueberry instead of strawberry this time) and had decided day before yesterday to give up again. You've revived me since the bread is always been the hard part! Thank you! Here I come, Cupcake World, whatever you are!
Good to hear! I think there's still a lot our community has yet to discover from obscure flavour houses...this particular search of mine had led me down a rabbit hole of companies I've never heard of before!
Curious, are any of them remotely intended for vaping?
That's pretty much the recipe the site I buy from uses.
The RF Strawberry Jam on toast is VERY different to what's in this recipe and is more similar to what is used in "Jam Monster"
$24.60 for 10ml!? They think it's liquid gold apparently.
Hey u/ShittyStrawman thank you very much for the acknowledgement, this is the first time I've been able to assist another DIY Redditor in a definite way, and it's great that you were able to get closer to your goal, I'm very pleased. I couldn't agree more that the community should be a little more adventurous in trying concentrates from obscure flavour houses, cos there's some really good ones out there that ppl are missing out on. (The rest of this post isn't directed just at you, Shitstrawm, it's just a general rant on this topic, lol. But, skip to the bottom for a couple more Strawberry Jam flavours I've found).
There are two kinds of 'one shots' out there for a start; the mixtures of regular single flavours (rightfully disdained), but also there are flavours which sound like one shots, in that they're complete flavour profiles, but they aren't mixtures of other concentrates, they're unique, original compounds, which often have very distinctive tastes, and are very different from the notes contained in the palette available from the Big Flavour Houses. How many times have you seen ppl attempting a bread note with flavours like AP, Biscuit, Cookie, Waffle, etc? It's not even close, but it's such a simple taste, there has to be a concentrate out there to mimic it exactly. That was my thinking anyway.
Also, many of the stores which sell concentrates have their in house ranges, which presumably are a bit more profitable for them, and mostly these are NOT one shots (in the sense of mixed concentrates), they're unique compounds. Many of the ones in the UK replicate complete flavour profiles for candies and desserts which are popular in the UK, but not necessarily in America, e.g.; crumble, treacle tart, Bakewell tart, Jelly Babies, etc. The commercial companies don't always mess around mixing compounds from Capella and TFA in complex formulas to make their juice, they just source a complete Bakewell tart concentrate, add sweetener, maybe one or two accent flavours, and boom, done.
However, within these in house ranges, you can also find flavours which aren't complete profiles like that, but also simple, basic building block flavours, which again are quite unique in taste, and provide a palette which is both quite distinct from the notes available from the Big Boys, and which caters to particular British taste. People should realise that these concentrates aren't of lower quality than the flavours from the big houses, the difference is merely that those companies are set up to market concentrates directly to the consumer, in small quantities. There are many other manufacturers of flavour concentrates, who only supply large quantities to food and drink manufacturers, which is overwhelmingly the largest market for flavour concentrates. The vape stores are able to buy large quantities from these companies, who aren't set up to distribute tiny quantities directly to the consumer, at profitable rates, then rebottle and sell on to us, in small quantities. It's a huge mistake to dismiss these flavours just because they don't come from a company which you see mentioned on mixing shows on youtube. The only reason these flavours are 'obscure' is because ppl like Wayne Walker, ID10-T, and Concrete River haven't got around to mentioning them, for whatever reason. I may well write a top level post incorporating all of these points, to try and draw some attention to these concentrates, as well as writing a few reviews, cos ppl are definitely missing out.
Since the last time I posted, I've bought a few more flavours, trying to get that perfect Strawberry Jam taste, and I've scored a coupe of winners, both better than the Chef's Choice. Did you get that one yet, Shitty ? There's OOO Strawberry Jam, from Vapable, pretty good, and also Dr. Flavour Strawberry Jam, which is the jammiest and nicest one i've found. You can get that one on ebay and Amazon - it's an original concentrate, made in the UK.
Thanks for this detailed reply - I ended up getting Strawberry Jam directly from cupcake world. It's pretty nice, but not quite what I was looking for!
The chap at rainbows vapes told me his Strawberry Jam on toast is sold to him as a premixed concentrate, but would not reveal his source (fair enough there). I'm convinced the Strawberry element of that concentrate is the jam I'm looking for, so the search continues for that!
I'll check out Dr.flavour for sure :)
EDIT: Dr.flavour sells Jam on toast as well as a strawberry jam...could this be the secret supplier?
