Highlights from last week:
-
The Legend Himself /u/Botboy141 introduced the newest member of the mod team /u/EdibleMalfunction. The man is no stranger to the sub and has answered literally thousands of questions from new mixers in the years he's been here and will hopefully still be answering more when he's not busy removing the deluge of repetitive nic salt questions (seriously, we need a FAQ for that)
-
In the meta category we have another "Grateful Newbie" /u/s0l0Kill giving thanks for all the excellent resources the sub has provided them. It's always nice to see someone come out from behind the veil of lurkdom to let us know the information is still useful.
-
/u/ic30nfyr3 claims to have stumbled upon the secret to white rice flavored juice and I can only assume, from their history of posts in the sub, that this palate warping experience might be influenced by something more than the combination of flavors.
-
The venerable vixen /u/Leilani_H dropped an impressive set of 15 flavor reviews; WF Blueberry Jam, Flapper Pie, Chocolate Cookie Crust, Graham Cracker Pie Crust, Yangmei Berry, Cannoli Shell, Strawberry Gummy Candy, Caramel Popcorn and Peanuts, Deep Fried Plantain, Flan, as well as FE French Toast, HiLIQ Rice, DF Bananas Foster & Glazed Donut, and, RF Frosted Animal Cookie.
-
I wrote A Quick PSA about stuff and things--namely this thread. /u/OdieDoodah had a good idea which I'm going to use starting next week. This will be the last of the highlights! Kind of... starting next week they'll be part of their very own post and the Questions Thread/New Mixers Questions/General Questions Thread/Whatever other name it once had will become something new. Stay tuned.

And finally /u/eyemakepizza decided to stop shit posting long enough to share CinnAppleCream with good notes and... a bonus recipe? We must be in bizarro world.
Come chat with us on Discord.
I think what you’re asking for is moar shit posts?
Looking forward to another top notch shit post from my favorite shitposter.
I think people think I was serious and are being extra generous with their downvotes 😆
I doubt /u/eyemakepizza really stopped shitposting. Maybe " took a break from shitposting"...
I've been on an adventure mixing my own juice because my usual vendor was out of stock and I wanted to save some money, but it's gone terribly twice on a row and I guess I'll have to give up, but:
My latest batch went fine in terms of mixing, but once mixed I realized the base (80vg/20pg) had a funky smell. Sort of like, yup, rotting vegetables. I thought I could ignore it, but I'm not sure.
Does this mean that the base has gone bad? Should I have kept it in the fridge? (I thought since it was winter and pretty cold I wouldnt need to. I've never kept previous ready-mixed juices in the fridge regardless of ratio). And is it dangerous to vape? Is that just how it supposed to taste? 70VG/30PG never tasted vaguely like that...
Are you sure you were using USP VG? Was the container sealed airtight?
What flavorings did you use? It may not have been the base...
NEW MIXER: Hey guys so this is what I’m thinking about buying( photo links in comments) I’m thinking the strawberry I could probably add to the shortcake to spice it up and make the strawberry flavor pop and maybe add some to the pina colada to help give it more flavor after reading a review about it. This is my first time actually making juice that’s why I’m ordering all from one place just so it all gets here at the same time and I can have a good base for everything before I start buying other flavors elsewhere. Any suggestions? Thanks for reading!https://imgur.com/a/gaKfbdj/
I wouldn’t order any of that just yet.
You should search around Alltheflavors.com and find some recipes that you like. Order the flavors for those recipes. Try and find some recipes that share ingredients so that you can use them for more than one recipe.
Get together your list, check out Nicotine River, Bull City, Gremlin, Chefs, etc and grab your stuff. You may have to order from one or two places. Sometimes it works out better.
I would highly suggest digging around in the side bar and doing some research before jumping in because to be blunt, you’ll be highly disappointed with that order.
Also, that Basics Eliquid (your base) is PG/VG/Nic already mixed. If you then go and add flavors into it, you will no longer be at 3mg nicotine. Especially with Liquid Barn flavors that generally run at higher flavor %s.
Why would I be highly disappointed with this order? Not trying to sound rude or anything just curious are they bad flavours? I really like strawberry and pineapple that’s why I was thinking about them, I just want to order from the same place for my first time so that I have it all at once and can just have a baseline of stuff before I start ordering from other places and waiting for their shipping and what not
Just because those are the flavors you like, does not mean that those flavors from that brand are good. Strawberry Cheesecake was the only one you picked that is actually good.
LB has very few flavors that are decent enough to use. You are better off ordering from Nic River if you want a one stop shop
Not that they are necessarily bad flavors, Strawberry Cheesecake is excellent from what I've heard. But for the pineapple and strawberry, there are better flavors to go with.
The thing with mixing is that some companies have the best flavor for one thing and the worst for another. So sticking to one brand won't really yield the best results.
For instance, a better pineapple would be Capella Golden Pineapple or Inawera. A better strawberry would be Jungle Flavors Strawberry Sweet, or FA Strawberry (Red Touch). You're also limiting yourself by only getting those three flavors because if that doesn't turn out tasting good, your SOL. No matter where you order from, you'll be waiting on shipping.
Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask but been searching all over for a place in europe to get Hangsen Chocolate Cream, really would like to try Folkarts Mayan Milk. Any help would be much appreciated.
This is the right place to ask. I don't know off the top of my head but have you looked through the list of vendors? Someone else who knows might come along but peruse that while you wait :)
Thanks Apexified, yes I have gone through the list. As it seems the only HS chocolate I can get is Australian chocolate but I guess that does not suffice?
So I've been vaping for awhile cutting down on cigs. My only problem is I go through so much juice, especially since its winter and smoking a cig outside isn't worth freezing. A lot of the shops around me only sell up to 6mg nicotine unless I go to this place that does it in house. Amazing flavors and well done but costly. I've been doing some research into DIY. I haven't had any problems finding the vg or nicotine but I saw some sites selling bottles where they're premade just waiting for your flavor but they only go up to 6mg but $7 for 120ml plus flavor price isn't bad. I usually smoke around 10-12mg. I was wondering if I can add more nicotine to them to get them closer to my numbers. I've been doing a ton of research and number crunching, percentages. Ect. And it sounds really solid going my own way. I just heard about using a scale for measurements and I was also wondering what the pros and cons of that is compared to syringes and good old fashion mathematics.
Also for steeping, I read that certain flavors actually "degrade" in taste mostly tart fruits after steeping and using a bit much can just completely wash out the flavor. But that can also be effected by vg/pg ratios.
If anyone has some good websites for picking things up for a good price and browsing I'd love a link.
I tried checking out the newbie guide but 90% of the links weren't working for me. Any thoughts and opinions would be greatly appreciated thank you!
>I was wondering if I can add more nicotine to them.
Yes. Just use a mixing calculator. See sidebar

>I was also wondering what the pros and cons of that is compared to syringes and good old fashion mathematics

>If anyone has some good websites for picking things up for a good price and browsing I'd love a link
NicRiver. Also, see side bar

Aha I just stumbled upon all that in the side bar. Not all links are working I think just because of the mobile app I'm using. Thank you!
In your opinion, for someone new starting out would you advise the base bottles where you just add flavor and maybe nic if I cant find a shop that sells higher than 6. Or buying vg/pg and nic separate? I found a site that has a DIY sale going on last night and both prices came out roughly the same give or take. But maybe the better percentage of success from the base bottles would pay off instead of going rogue and having more room for error to ruin a batch. If the items were bought solo I'd be able to make quite a bit more quantity wise and would make mistakes a little less hurtful.
Buy everything individually. First, its what we all mostly do. Secondly, it allows a constant nic level and constant vg ratios. Second, its cheaper Third, f any one ingredient is fubar, you can replace that rarher than everything
Finally, what do you normally smoke 10-12mg of, ultracrack?
I purchased 100% VG 0mg nic. And purchased 1.8ml 20% Sapphyre Nic.
I mixed 2 sapphyre pacs to 180 ml of VG. Just checking that this will be roughly 4.5 mg of nic strength ?
3.9mg/ml by my math
Thank you that’s close enough for me. Also is there a better brand of nic to keep it as close to flavorless as possible ?
This brand kind of adds a peppery flavor but was the only brand I can get local.
> Sapphyre Nic
Never heard of them before now but after looking at their site, the nic they show a picture of is heavily oxidised. Almost any nic would be a better option because that stuff is also ridiculously expensive. Check out Carolina Xtract or VapersTek.
That's the worst part, I'm prescribed heavy sedatives for sleeping and they do a fantastic job but sometimes it'll go on for 3-4 days and just nothing shuts off and gets worse as time goes on till you crash.
I think nicvapes was one of the first I checked out and they have a sale for 50% off damn near everything and it almost felt too good to be true. But if it's legit I'm all for it. I'll look into some of the others as well. I'd kinda like quicker shipping as my juice supply is running kinda low. Beggars cant be choosers though lol. But thanks for the advice I appreciate it
Seeking the wisdom of the oracles.
I am new in MTL, I have only tried DIYorDie's Pistachio Ry4 in my new Hastur mini.I tried it and didn't taste much besides tobacco/ry4, and very little caramel, so I was thinking about bumbing up the flavor %, but from reading on the forum its not always a good idea to simply bumb up the %.
Tomorrow I be mixing Pistachio Ry4 and Apple-Bacco, and since I am new in diy, and mtl for that matter, and dont have a rotation yet, I dont "have the time" to mix small batches, steep and then test. Need something to vape.
So I am looking for some input on how I bumb up the flavor in the 2 recipies without messing it up; like muting them or getting off flavors from to high %.I would like for the non-tobacco flavors to be somewhat tasteable.
Link to recipies:

I mix at 60/40 vg.
You shouldn't need to bump up the flavor at all for a MTL atty.. Increasing the flavor will not help you get flavor out of a recipe that takes time to steep. Mix juice up that doesn't require a long steeping time if you don't want to wait.
What EdibleMalfunction said is true. A good kayfun atty will give some intense flavor with that P-RY4 mix as I've vaped a few hundred mls myself. Haven't tried the Hastur mini so I can't speak to that. Since you're starting out in MTL you can't go wrong with trying to mix FA Soho stand alone at 15-20%, snv, and see what you think.
Random curious thought, could one pay a lab to test a flavor concentrate and find out the compounds it's made of? If so, what labs do this type of testing?
You can pay a lab. They won't always be able to tell. IIRC someone did get a lab to do GCMS tests on Boba's bounty, and it didn't give clear enough results.
TFA has a online list of ingredients used in each flavo they make, with a wide range of percentages.
I live in Canada and I'm looking for the cheapest place to get bottles to mix in bulk. I have a few recipes I really like but only have about 3 x 100ml bottles. I have a Guava, Lemonade, and Citrusy flavor. I need bottles that won't deteriorate if the acidic mixes sit in them.
If you're in London, thebrokevaper.ca is a good choice. Try to time a sale still. Or if youre willing to order from quebec instead of Canada, bestglycol is reasonable
You could try dhgate or such... I got some 30ml bottles thru them once, but ylthe tips were too thick, they're more high flow than is useful.
I'm in Ottawa currently, so do you think my best option would be Quebec?
I can't recall if theres a local vendor there. Shipping really is the big expense after all... If you order from bestglycol, try to boost into free shipping range. They don't have a lot of flavors (TFA, CAP and FW, plus a few house label ones) but their prices are reasonable.
TL;DR What are the top (unlimited number here) tobacco flavours that you would suggest? So far, RY4 based recipes have been mostly my ADV and I have already ordered most of the "my first order" flavours (plus more) with a big queue of non tobacco recipes to mix once they arrive.

The longer version:

Tobacco flavours that I already have (most of the them bought blindly) are:
- FA Virginia: haven't single flavour tested this, but I tried one recipe that I made, mostly with this as the tobacco base and it felt more ashtray than what I like.
- FA Maxx Blend: I have tried this solo plus with a couple of recipes and I liked it, even though I can't imagine vaping this all day if it is the centre of the recipe.
- FA Desert Ship: Tried it solo and in a couple of very well rated recipes on ELR but I'm pretty sure I simply can *not* stand it. There is something specific in this flavour that doesn't fit my taste at all.
- TPA RY4 Double: I have been vaping this all day in various recipes (most tribeca clones or adaptations). I like it but I would like something different at some point.
- INW Dark for pipe: Tried it solo (without enough steeping though, I am waiting a couple of more days before giving it a more serious try) and in one recipe and I like it a lot. I'm not 100% sure whether this by itself could be an ADV but I like it :)
- TPA Western: I have ordered this for a specific recipe but haven't receive it yet.

The tobacco flavours that I have so far spotted from various well reviewed recipes on ELR and ATF (but to be honest I'm not sure whether I will enjoy them or not) are:
- FA Soho
- FLV Kentucky Blend
- FLV Red Burley
- INW Classic For Pipe Black,
- INW Classic For Pipe Gold
- INW Tobacco Dirty Neutral (this is specifically for Apricaught Me Slippin')
- TPA Black Honey
and with lesser certainty:
- INW Tobacco Burley
- FLV Cured Tobacco
- INW Gold Ducat
- INW Vanilla For Pipe

What are your recommendations? Do you think that there is a major one missing or one from the ones that I have spotted that is not worth or there is a better replacement?

My adv is fa soho and i switch to tfa ry4D to give my palette a break. But if i had 1 wish itd be to always taste fa soho, so id urge you pick this up asap if youre already enjoying ry4D for tribecca clone stuff.
Personally i think fa soho stabdal9be or with some AP is closer to Halo Tribeca than tfa ry4D, i thinl soho and tribecca smell 90% the same.
Other flavors that work for giving my palette a rest and time to recoup so i cab taste Soho again are Hangsen Ry4 and DIYFS holy grail ry4.
Hope this helps, also btw ive never had much success with any authentic flavored tobacco such as Flv red burley, they are just way too strong even at .5% for me, but i need to keep experimenting with very low %, like adding a drop or two in a 50ml bottle of ry4.
Glaringly missing from your list:
FLV Connecticut shade
FLV tatanka
FLV native
FLV turkish
INW am4a
INW 555
INW DNB
/u/chemicalburnvictm can name the others I'm forgetting, but inw tobacco Symphony and several HS tobaccos should be on your list.
Great, thanks. Any specific recipes to suggest with some of these?
@juthinc @Chemicalburnvictim
The country I live in pretty much all I can get is TFA Western, those other exotic ones you list are not available to me here. (Vietnam)

However, I am able to get INW 555, what type of tobacco is this? what would you suggest pairing it with? I've looked online but it does not seem to be a popular concentrate, there is not a lot of talk around it. The only other tobacco I own is TFA RY4 Double and I really enjoy it as its easy to mix and use for a beginniner suhc as me.
Ok, Vietnam could be tricky, especially if you can't order online. Otherwise I'd say chef's is probably your best bet.
But, inw 555? I gotta dig in my notes. Similar to a burley, slightly odd notes, but useful. I'd probably use it more if it wasn't for the fact that flv red burley is faster and I have a couple ounces of it. I might try it in one of my recipes that had western in it...
Flavors i like to pair tobacco with - cinnamon, ginger, gotta try cardamom i think it'll work, peanut butter, marzipan, chocolate, banana, coconut, bourbon, whisky, wood, smoke. Maybe rum, brown sugar, caramel, butterscotch, etc. 555 should be gtg with any number of combinations of those. A little bit of western would fit with most except the fruit.
> There is something specific in this flavour that doesn't fit my taste at all.
I believe what is in it that you can’t stand is FA Desert Ship. It’s just all bad in my opinion.
> it felt more ashtray than what I like.
Hopefully getting that DNB for my recipe doesn’t fill you with regret, because that flavor is pretty much ashtray. But it is definitely better than FA Virginia, so we can keep our fingers crossed.
Everything else you’ve listed on your list looks pretty good. The only other thing I would suggest would be a couple tobacco absolutes from INW. If I had to pick just 2, I’d say Tobacco Absolute Oriental and Tobacco Absolute Garuda. But if it’s an option, get them all.
Is it better/easier for a beginner too buy a diy kit or is it easier too build you own set up also good web sites too purchase materials would be much appreciated
I'll try to give a more complete answer.
As with most hobbies, it is preferable to pick up everything seperately.
However, if you want a low risk way to get your feet wet, then Nicotine River has a kit for $50 that will have everything needed to make a lot of juice (a liter IIRC). If you stick with mixing then pick up a scale and other things seperately.
As mentioned, the sidebar here is a treasure of knowledge, study it well.

Okay so after some help from people in this subreddit, what do you guys think of this? Going to try for pineapple strawberry with a little cream and strawberry cheesecake. I think that all the flavours I’m getting leave me open to create quite a few different flavours
Did you have any recipes picked out? And what VG/PG ratio do you normally vape?
None picked out no, I just thought that was a nice base and would get me through until I could afford all the goodies and flavours, I vape any pg vg really usually higher vg but I figured I would try 50/50 because pg is lighter it may be better for my cotton and coils or maybe I’m an idiot
I wouldn't call you an idiot but you might be unaware that 99% of flavors are suspended in PG, so adding flavors to a 50/50 base will increase the level of PG, which is already pretty high in that base.
The reason you want to pick out some recipes first is because someone else took the time to make the flavors work in those recipes. So while you might have a good strawberry and a good pineapple, you might end up with flavors that just don't work well together. Where as if you start with a recipe, there's a better chance that the flavors they used work well together and that's the reason they posted the recipe.
Feel free to experiment, though. It's a fun part of DIY.
The recipe first angle is really just to increase your chances of having a good mix to start with.

Why is that happening and is it supposed to happen? At the top there is something on the walls of the bottle
Does anybody have experience with Blue star salts because it literally feels like 0mg, and does anybody know why nicotineriver not replying to emails right now ?
At the time you posted, it was ~0600 where they are. So I'd guess they weren't at work yet.
I just made a couple lemonade flavors, both on ice: raspberry strawberry, and blueberry blackberry. They’re both still opaque because of the lemonade flavoring, just wondering if they’re going to be crazy bland tasting as a shake and vape or if the flavors just going to be a little softer until it steeps.
Finally a flavor question I can answer. Lemonades are shake n vape. In fact its quite opposite to bakeries, custards, etc. You want to vape them right away. I would advise against making more than you can vape in 3-5 days especially if using LA Lemonade. They don't get better over time.
Hmm alright, good to know thanks! I tried to make one for my first juice but used something crazy like 11% lemonade (FW natural lemonade) and it shot my tastebuds the first day, after a day or two it was really good and then another day or two later it was super mute. Thought it was just the percentage of lemonade that made it mute after a while.
Can I make my own juice for a nic salts device? Do i need to make any changes from the juice I make now for my vaporesso revenger?
By 'nic salts device', if you mean a low power pod system, yes, you need to change your recipe. They don't really produce flavor effectively, so you need to simplify your profile and slightly increase percentages used.
Ok that makes sense! Other than that, I can still use my vg/pg/freebase nicotine that I have been?
I think you'll also want to increase your nic concentration. Remember you get less vapor each time, so since you're using less juice you'll get less nicotine. So you're either gonna find yourself chain vaping to get your nic, or you're gonna kill some asshat that truly deserved it because you were having a nic fit. The reason pods use nic salts is so the concentration can be bumped up without making it unvapably harsh.
Just mixed my first few e-liquids and I'd love to let them steep, but my impatience will be the end of me lol. Should I just buy a bottle of juice from my local b&m while I wait for them to sit? I was gonna try a shake and vape but I know it's better to let juice steep in the long run.
Mix up something fruit flavored, so it doesn't need a steep. Creams, custards, baked goods, and tobaccos need steeping (usually). Sometimes a candy/floral/fruit will improve over time, but they're usually gtg off the shake.
ok cool! just wanted to check just because i see a lot of people suggesting that steeping instead of snv is better and i don’t want to waste any of my mixes lol.
