Nic River PurNic (hit)
submitted over 6 years ago by jtjohns56

I typically use Nic Rivers smooth salt but thought I'd give the hit salts a try since only that only difference is suppose to be throat hit. I got my nic in the mail back in December and mixed a few of my regular juices.

After some steeping time, I'm just now getting a chance to try them and they all taste nothing like what i know the taste to be. Every one of them has the thrust hit add expected but at the expense of a peppery taste.

Have you all experienced this with the hit salt? I don't know if this is a byproduct of nicotine with a throat hit or if i got a bad batch. Either way, the taste is very much different than the smooth I've purchased in the past.

Yes, the hit is fine but should it taste like pepper?

Cool. I'll wait for some responses... If it's normal I'll just order smooth and get rid of the hit.

I also just tried the hit variant this past week. Its still less harsh than the normal freebase but i dont notice any difference in flavors that ive been making either. Tho i guess everyones tongues are different, there shouldnt be any taste from the nic. You should try with no flavor maybe

I haven't tried anything without nic in a while but i assume you are suggesting that to see if the nic is the cause of the pepper taste? I made about ten different juices with the hit, haven't tried them all yet but atl three of the ones I've tried have that taste and the nic is the only new variable.

It hit fine with no peppery taste just mine tasted wierd. Then again, what’s peppery to you may be a different taste to me

Pepper is what nic tastes like when it gets old or is left out too long. Eventually all nic gets that way - perhaps you got an older batch or perhaps it was exposed to heat or something? eventually nic will get so peppery it can't be vaped.

I have ordered nicotine from nicriver four times, twice the nicotine was oxidized. They are good about sending our a replacement if you co tact them via telephone. If your nicotine is yellow and has a pungent odor it is oxidized.

I now buy the 48mg/ml nicotine in order to lessen the chance that the nicotine will be oxidized.

Call them and let them know. Email the rep a picture if the oxidized nicotine while on the phone. If you have any unoxidized nicotine make the same recipe with both. The oxidized batch will be much darker than the other. Send that pic as well. If you do not have any other nicotine make a batch with no nic and a branch with bad nic. The bad batch should be much darker than the no nic batch.

Thanks. I'll give them a call after trying some of the advice below.

Really didn't want to make a stink over it. Just wondering if this was normal for the hit nic.

It's not normal, that peppery taste is classic oxidized nic

Was it ever Chemnovatic? I'm just curious.

Yes, the Chemnovatic was the worst of the oxidized nicotine. It was the only one bad enough that I requested a replacement. I will never buy chemnovatic again.

Edit: The smooth salt nicotine was the best with purnic a close second.

That's not good. I was under the impression that it was Vaperstek quality. I was misinformed apparently. Sorry it happend to you, and thanks for the info.

Peppery flavours in nic usually mean that it's stale, probably through being stored incorrectly. If you got that with a fresh shipment, you should probably contact the supplier.

Just spoke with NR. They were more than willing to assist me and are sending a replacement.

They'll be keeping my business for a long time to come.

I want to ask you do these smooth salts have a good hit effect ?

If by hit you mean throat hit, NO, not at all. If you mean do you feel the Nic rush, ABSOLUTLEY, I think that's due to it supposedly getting to the blood stream quicker than base.
