Melons taste like metal/rust?
submitted over 6 years ago by hellboyjv3

So I’ve worked at a vape shop that makes their own ejuice and I enjoy a lot of them except their juices with melon. Not honeydew, just melon. It always ruins the juice for me. It tastes like metal or rust in all my tanks. Everyone else says it tastes amazing. Am I weird? Or can melons have a off taste? I guess my tastebuds hate melons?

We all have our weird quirks. Strawberry flavors taste like nothing to me.

Lucky s.o.b. I wish I couldn't taste that crap.

I’ve come to this conclusion too. Strawberry and custard are two flavours I will never find :( damn you, tongue!

I’ve made so many strawberries that smell AMAZING and taste of nothing.

Everyone has that kind of flavours.

I cant stand any cherry and coconut flavours for example, they taste like straight soap for me

I wonder if I have some of that too. I've never tried a cherry flavor on its own, but the last one I remember having (cherry limeade from a local shop) tasted like lemon-scented floor cleaner.

I get this too! I think it usually happens when they’re used at too high percentages. For example when I used Wild Melon by Flavorah at over 2.5%, it has a metallic taste to it. I notice it more on drippers. I also get the same from juices that are heavily sweetened with sucralose. Anything close to 1% is a no go with sweetener. I also get a weird rubber glove essence when vaping pretty much any lemon flavour, typically this happens when the flavours aren’t steeped properly.

But hey, you’re not alone!

Vaping made me realize how people truly perceive flavors differently. I keep buying fruit flavors because I love (real) fruit, they sound amazing, and get great reviews, however most fruit flavors have this one gross note I can't get past; It's hard to explain, it's like as if you went to eat said fruit right after taking a sip of coffee, like its burnt but trying so hard to use it's sweetness to pull the notes through but fails and tastes jumbled. I try and stay away from them nowadays but I have to say it's so tempting to order them. There are a few fruit flavors that don't taste like that and those are the ones I like to go for. If you don't like the flavor of melon, you could just save yourself by not purchasing them or purchasing them in smaller quantities to sample first.

I'm a big fruit flavor person too and I have the same problem, what solved it for me was getting stuff that is sorta-fruit but not totally fruit flavored. Like Paradox On The Rocks which is like grape mountain dewish menthol.

Yeah... I love eating real melons, but they just don't work in a vape juice for me either.

I'm the other way around. I don't enjoy eating melons but love vaping the flavors.

I never eat real custard. It's my ADV.

Don't worry, it's not just you. Lots of people have an issue with a certain flavouring. Most of the honeydew concentrates taste like perfumey nastiness to me. Had to try about 5-6 of them before I found one I could use for my own juice.

Most concentrates have off tastes at different %s

First time I've heard of a melon giving a rust flavour though

I know different % have different tastes but it’s only melon for me. Watermelon is fine, honeydew is fine (it’s a bit too strong sometimes). At first I thought I was burning my juice or my coil was having issues but nope, it was the melon in the juice. Sadness.

Melon isn't a specific flavor or fruit though.... You named two melons right there

Which brand of flavor is the just "melon?"

My first melon flavor (Besides watermelon) was Inawera Melon. I'm sure you're aware it exists, and the only one I can think of. I get no metal taste from it.
