Menthol Aroma giving headaches
submitted over 6 years ago by CaptainVega

Dear friends,

I make my own liquids, have been doing it with the same base, nicotine boosters and mainly the same brand (K-boom).

But now I made one (Fresh Grapenade) which should have a cool breeze touch to it, this cool breeze is an arctic snowstorm to be honest.

It gives me headaches like a brainfreeze and I'm not really digging it.

So why am I sharing, I know this has to do with the aroma used but I don't really wanna throw out a whole batch.

Has anyone encountered this? Will it be better if I let it steep longer? Can I soften it by adding more base? Is it harmful?

Any advice and opinions would be very appreciated!

Kind regards,

Vega

Well, whether it's actually menthol or just a cooling agent isn't clear, but it doesn't matter much... The fact is either way you've probably got something that's beyond your tolerances. So three options:

  1. Dump it. (Make this a last resort).
  2. Dilute it. (Probably best).
  3. Build a tolerance by not vaping things that don't have cooling.

Do you have any other setups you can vape on? The less airflow you have, the less brainfreeze you'll get from menthol. I don't usually change recipes for hardware, but with menthol I have to. Something that gives a nice throat hit with a restricted DTL single coil atomizer will give me brainfreeze in a wide open dual coil atomizer.

Menthol will fade with time. You could also add more base to dilute.

YES. Glad it's not just me. I bought a candy cane from my local store that gave me a localized spiky headache near my right temple. That was awful. Switched juices and it stopped. Would get more frequent the more I vaped it.

I have exactly the same, I can vape one half a tank in my cleito 120 and then it's with every hit I take a short burst/spike also near right temple and forehead, very uncomfortable.

I'm super happy it's not just me, I was actually thinking of going to the doctor before I figured it out. Yeah that went away completely after I switched. I've had some menthols that didn't do this, so I'm not sure what the fix would be.

Yeah, I'm normally quite fond of a fresh, minty touch to my liquids to counter all the sweetness but I will probably have to throw this away. Not worth the headaches.

I'm glad I could assure you by sharing my problems :-) I'm quite prone to headaches in general so I would assume it was my head acting funny again because of nothing, but as you encountered the same problem, it will be more general then I assumed. Which is good, I guess..

Wait like actual headaches or you just brainfreeze? You shouldnt get brainfreeze since its not actually cold.

Headaches that feel like it

Headaches sounds more like a nicotine intoxication.

I don't have it with other liquids with the same Nico booster + it's at 2mg so very low..

Yes i had understood this. The idea was more a possible problem of concentration in the booster, i.e a production problem and then a whole lot would also have the same issue.

At my vape shot we add one drop of menthol to every 10mls plus one more drop for love.
