#007 Cola by /u/alfredpudding

Co. | Flavor | % ---|---|---- VT | Fizzy Sherbet | 3.5 Othr | WS-23 | 0.5 FW | Blood Orange | 0.4 FA | Vanilla Bourbon | 0.4 CAP | Super Sweet | 0.25 FLV | Rich Cinnamon | 0.07

I've tried a lot of wonderful recipes this year, but this one stands way out as the most astounding bit of mixing magic.

Think about what's happened here. Someone took six ingredients, none of which individually taste anything at all like cola, and made a seriously authentic cola flavor out of them. And not just any cola flavor, one that's much better than any of the individual cola flavorings like FA Cola or LB Cola Freeze. That is recipe of the year-level insanity. This recipe needs to be a one-shot so I can buy it and not have keep mixing it myself.

It's a masterpiece, [does LaVar Burton impression] but you don't have to take my word for it. I'll save you the trouble of clicking the ATF link and copy some of the 5-star reviews from there for you.

User: MrBurgundy

This is easily the best cola recipe I’ve tried. It’s untraditional in the most glorious fashion. Fizzy Sherbet provides a bright backdrop of citrusy sweetness, and Rich Cinnamon makes for such a delightfully strange pairing. I never would have thought those two flavors would get along, but Alfred managed to expertly balance them. Blood Orange slides right in with them, adding some dimension to the citrus base. The subtle spicy vanilla helps sell that darker caramel color. The bit of bite from Rich Cinnamon, the “fizzy” nature of the sherbet, and the ws-23 really give me a cool, foamy mouthfeel. It all comes together for a distinct cola flavor that has enough pizazz to keep you vaping it over and over again. It’s cool enough to be refreshing, but not so much that it blows you off your feet. All in all, this is a really well-balanced recipe. Making a cola from scratch is a daunting task, but you did it with style Alfred! Thanks for sharing.

User: Demented76
Upon the shake this tastes a lot like cola bottle top candies, but after settling in it this turns into something even more amazing! It is not your regular cola flavor, it is more like going to a gourmet soda shop where they mix your drink from scratch with flavored syrups. It makes for a very unique and tasty experience. He nailed the fizz and coolness, and even more impressive is that he started at ground zero and never used a cola flavoring! The list of flavors may seem strange at first, but trust me, this is worth a try!

User: kindground
Excellent from the ground up recipe. It's definitely a cola but not a commercial cola like Pepsi or Coke. This has the bite of a gourmet crafted cola and is truly delicious. The spice of the cinnamon is there but you wouldn't know that it was cinnamon if you were unaware of the ingredients. The fizzy sherbet reinforces that citric acid perfectly when paired with the blood orange. It also gives it that candy bottle cap kind of feel straight off the shake. This fades and balances out after a steep. The choice of vanilla bourbon is genius too. Another brighter vanilla probably would have accentuated the cinnamon and citrus more instead of working to balance it. Absolutely fantastic recipe Alfred. Thanks for sharing.

User: Zeusagey
absolutely superb recipe and expertly crafted! i never knew what cola consisted of until i learned of this recipe, im off to mix some more! great work and thanks for the recipe :) :)

I mixed this up last night and tested it Today, This BLEW MY MIND!!! Expertly Crafted with Superbly Luxurious flavors coming from Just 5%?!?!!? A damn work of art to do what you have done! I have to agree with MrBurgundy, This is The best Cola recipe I have ever tried. This Tastes Like a Premium Old Tyme soda we have here called Frankies, this reminds me of a mix between the Frankies Cinnamon Cola and the Frankies Dandelion and Burdock Soda. Well Fucking Done!! Best 2018 Recipe for me so far because of everything from Flavor for percentages to how you concocted this recipe!

User: _ObiWanCannoli

Big thumbs up on this recipe. Easily in my top 3 recipes this year. An User: awesome craft style cola, full of flavor and perfectly executed. I too found out fairly recently that cola is surprisingly a citrus based drink. It's amazing what effect color has on our taste perception. Anyways, excellent work on this recipe, will absolutely be re-mixing this one!

User: finger_style
This recipe might be the most amazing mix I’ve ever tried. I can’t believe it has a cola flavor looking at the ingredients. I sat down and smelled them all and can’t believe you picked out the components of cola. Mind blowing. It’s a delicious craft cola with some effervescent kick and the cooling is perfect. Now to figure out how to add cherry without ruining this masterpiece.

My nominee is Viserion from /u/ID10-T. This is how Blueberries & Cream is supposed to be. I was never a fan of coolants, but ordered WS-23 just for this. I like to give it at least a week rest, it's good then, but really hit's it's stride after a month. Halfway thru a 250ml batch from around Thanksgiving now and it is just divine. I'm sure I'll keep mixing this one well into 2019.

Note: For the uninitiated, 1% of WS-23 in a 30% dilution is COLD. This was the first time I used it and it was a bit shocking. But it is a big part of the recipe's appeal.

Bavarian Cream TFA 2%

It is an honor to have a recipe nominated at all, much less by the great Coop34.

Best thing about this recipe is WS-23 was the only thing you needed to buy for it. I know /u/Apexified didn’t have to buy anything for it, and that drives him nuts!

Thats by far the mark of a great recipe destined to be a hit IMO. I know we like to get experimental and put oddball concentrates to use, but creating something THAT GOOD using stuff that 99% of mixers old and new would have is downright impressive. I second this vote!

by MasterBeernutsover 6 years agoMixologist

Mr10, curious as to the Dragonfruit at 4% here. At this percentage I'm assuming it's here both for it's taste and to help the blueberries 'stick'? In previous iterations did you take the FE Lemon higher? Was it overpowering at 0.5%/0.75%? At what stage did you settle on TFA Vanilla Swirl? Try any others? I'm going to have to mix this up - I'm intrigued as broo. I like the fact there's no Bilberry (just for a change as ppl seem to put it in automatically now), and the idgaf let's take the FW BB up to 5.75% because that's what it needs.

3 points

by ID10-Tover 6 years agoThe Kingmaker

You shouldn't taste the dragonfruit. It just sort of blends with the blueberry and makes it shine. I think it might be acting a bit like a sin-eater for some of the issues with both of those blueberries used that high.

This one didn't get as much time in development or iterations as others. It was less the result of hard work and determination than dumb luck; it wasn't supposed to be that good already. Once it was, I didn't see the need to mess with it. Of course everything I put in there was put in for a reason, but I expected it to take a lot more work to get right. IIRC, the only changes from earlier versions involved gradually increasing the amount of both blueberries each time. I wanted to push those suckers as far as they could go. On the next-to-final version, I pushed them too hard and it got soapy. I didn't go back all the way to the previous version, though, I think I met the difference halfway and that's when I got lucky.

I'm glad you beat me to this Coop. I just discovered this recently when combing for recipes I could make with supplies on hand, and having been on a bit of a blueberry kick recently, I can state this is the best spin on the fruit that I've tasted. My main customer besides myself is all about blueberries, and after tasting this I confidently whipped up a quarter of a liter just for his next purchase-- he'll be even more obsessed with it than I am, no doubt in my mind. Truly a delicious juice and the only blueberry I'll ADV!

As I have mentioned I don't get Buttermilk Pie(but being a Southerner we all have our own versions) What I do get is a wonderful clafoutis without any fruit. It is outstanding on it own and develops while steeping very well. To the point where I would recommend a big bottle where you can see just how much it changes over time.

While I didn't make any substitutions and the juice is amazing on it's own I've made a ton of alterations that have all come out wonderfully and I think this is one of the things that makes this recipe so special.

It is amazing as is but you can add pretty much anything to it(without changing a thing) and end up with fantastic results. I've added many tobaccos, fruits, tobacco and fruit blends, nuts, spices, you name it and they have all came out fantastic combined with this recipe not that it needs anything added to be outstanding.

28 day wait is like a 9 month pregnancy in vaping days. This baby comes out screaming and wailing after a smack on the bottom. It was weird in all the right ways for me. I never was so happy I mixed up a 60ml of anything before. This one captured my imagination in unholy ways. The cactus here is so pronounced but mixes in this crazy delightful way with the hops and the tobacco. It's like each one stands out on their own and each take turns arguing for who's on top and then sit down together at the dinner table like nothing ever happened. I actually enjoyed the taste of the cactus for the first time in this mix and I don't think I've liked it anywhere else as a prominent flavor. At the common 0.25%, I almost feel like it's too much. Here it sits on a throne three times as high with some of some of my favorite actors.

Do not let the steep time ward you off. Do not let the woefully small number of reviews deter you. To me, this is a vaping experience that should not be missed. If you are a fan of the tobacco, the weird, or the unruly, this needs to come off your vaping bucket list.

"Salted Caramel Pralines" by /u/coop34

 • Caramel (salted) (FW) @ 5%
 • Holy Vanilla (DFS) @ 1%
 • Pralines & Cream (FW) @ 4%

I tried this about 6 months ago and was quite disappointed because it seemed dry and a bit harsh but I tried it again a few weeks ago and found it heavenly this time. I just love everything about it, there are so many layers of flavour that blend perfectly in to a silky biscuity chocolatey sweet vape. I love the simplicity of the recipe as well, what a masterpiece. I don't know what else to say really, I've never had any premium juice but I imagine them to be something like this.

I haven't tried most of the recipes that were posted but honourable mentions to /u/ID10-T for Viserion and Wayne for Better Than Mothers Milk (no idea if this is close to the original but it's pretty damn tasty).

5 points

Thanks for the mention! It's quite good as it is, but it's also a great base to work with. A liitle FLV Milk Chocolate, and/or a little tobacco blend right in. /u/ID10-T did some lovely additions which I cant link to atm.

"Fuji Funk" by /u/Rileyswims

Fuji (FA) @ 1.25%

Elderflower (FLV) @ 0.5%

Pink Guava (FLV) @ 0.75%

Yakima Hops (FLV) @ 1.25%

Cactus (INW) @ 0.33%

WS-23 (BCF) @ 0.75%

So this was the year of Yakima Hops, in my honest opinion. This concentrate sure brought about some fucking wild profiles from everyone that used it, but this recipe manages to tame that funk and make something that everyone can enjoy. I love how refreshing this recipe is, and I think it takes an expert hand to use Elderflower, Pink Guava, and Yakima Hops all in the same recipe. The fact that none of these flavors absolutely obliterate the Fuji is nothing short of a mind fuck, to me at least. The use of Cactus in here is so smart, because it prevents the Elderflower and Guava from drying this whole affair into something reminiscent of a desert, or a 90 year old witch's southern region.

TL;DR, this recipe slaps and I think you should try it.

It is the perfect RY4 substitute. If you are like me and find RY4 a bit too synthetic tasting, this recipe will change it for you. I get a whiff of caramel, a tiny bit of custard, even a hint of fruity/citrus taste as it evolves constantly. It is a masterpiece. I pretty much vaped Holy Holy Custard all year round until this came around. Imo the pairing of Marzipan and Meringue gives it the ever changing flavour.

I do not have that creative edge when it comes to taste and flavorings....I make other people's recipes just about 100% of the time, so I have made quite a few since I started mixing around 6 years ago. I would say I have thrown out about 80% of them, if not more. Needless to say, I have quite a picky palate. Holiday Pie is hands down the best recipe I have tried this past year. It is a slightly sweet buttery vanilla custard. If you are any type of custard fan, this is a must try. I cannot recommend it enough! Thank you Gachatay for this great mix.

Is FA's Custard "Premium" different than the older Custard? Bullcity, ECX, and NicRiver (my 3 main sources in the US) only have the regular version. Any significant differences? One review says no hint of lemon and more egginess in the "premium".

/u/wh1skeyk1ng 's [Rhubarb Delight] (https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/105458#rhubarb_delight_by_wh1skeyk1ng).

It is hands down my favorite this year because of all the subtle nuances you get out of it. From the cinnamon pastry and custard to the Liquid Amber and Pear adding just that little bit of tang/juiciness to the INW Shisha Strawberry and INW Rhubarb. It's just a damn tasty recipe.

MFG|Flavor|%
:-:|:-:|:-: CAP|CInnamon Danish Swirl v1|3% INW|Custard|1.5% FA|Liquid Amber | 1% FA|Pear|0.5% INW|Rhubarb|0.3% INW|Shisha Strawberry|0.5% INW|Shisha Vanilla|1%

Now I know this says S&V but if you give it about a week the CAP CDS tones down a little bit and the pastry notes come out a bit more. Personally I like to reduce CAP CDS to 2.5% but it is a wonderful recipe as is (just wait a week).

3 points

by wh1skeyk1ngover 6 years agoThanks for reading this flair

Personally, I've been bumping the INW Rhubarb up to 0.5-0.6% and giving it 24-48 hours to settle. I understand bumping the CDS down, that much cinnamon isn't for everyone, and it has a tendency to come off a slight bit dry if the bottle of flavor is older.
