Hangsen Tobacco Percentages
submitted over 6 years ago by HankNice

So I finally managed to get my hands on Highway, Desert Ship and Virginia. I started out with single mixes at 6%. I'm not getting much flavor after a 2 week steep. They taste very similar to some of the Stixx Mixx flavors I picked up, which I also was having issues with, in terms of flavor. Plus, I've read posts where people have gone as low as 3% and as high as 10%.

Any suggestions? Any ideas for simple pairings for these flavors?

P.s. I tried my test mixes on my Dvarw DL and my Skyline with the MTL setup. All my non-HS mixes vape just fine.

As far as my experience with tobaccos, it tends to take a month+ for them to fully develop. Sure, I get something after a week or two, but the longer they sit, the better they are. If you want something more shake and vape / less than a week steep, look into some Flavorah tobaccos.

I don't know if he has a Reddit account, but check out ChemicalBurnVictim and Fear on AllTheFlavors. They are my gotos when it comes to tobacco mixes.

Thanks, dude. Yeah, I think some of my Flavorahs have spoiled me a bit, in terms of the waiting. I'll let mine sit for a week more weeks.

It's really all about the steep and the wait. I agree fully. I mixed up 150ml of caramel tobacco in September and waited 4 weeks, my god it's so tasty. I still have 1/3rd left and enjoy everyday a few Ml's of a good Virginia blend.

HS tobaccos, with a few exceptions, tend to be a little on the weak side. I usually use them around 2-3% just for an accent flavor. Like for Highway, I got a bit of a prune/raisin sweetness from it. If I wanted to just get that fruity note to peak it’s little head in to a mix, I’d probably start it off at 2%. Desert Ship has a strange dry flavor that’s really hard to put my finger on what exactly it tastes like. Virginia is the weakest of the three, and is more of a sweet tobacco leaf flavor that I use more to mellow out a mix than really bring any kind of intense flavor.

Simple mix with Highway

Not so simple mix with Desert Ship, but you can see I took it to 3% just for an accent

Not so simple with Desert Ship at 1% just to help dry things up. Won’t taste it too much.

Virginia used at 2% to help soften some of the edges of FLV Native to make it work better with the fruits. Should be noted that this is not the final version of this recipe.

Virginia uses at 1% to balance the more intense flavors I used for the Perique part of the recipe. The you’ll get more flavor from the .5% INW TA Virginia.

Really glad to hear that it's not just me who thinks they're kind of weak. Awesome links, will scour those, for sure. Cheers, bud!

Sorry for OT, but I just got Pineapple from HS. How much % would you recommend to start from, when I want it to be main flavour?

Fruits I don’t really do too much. I’m sure /u/id10-t has had it though and might be able to help. Or he will know who can help.

I don't have HS Pineapple but most HS fruits are pretty strong, I would probably start at 1% and see how that goes.

I admire this man's dogged pursuit of fine tobacco vapes. I believe he's claimed to have every single tobacco flavoring in existence.

Or it's a she. I have no idea.

Not quite. I have a few he doesn't. Mainly because I set out to do so. But he does know more about tobaccos than anyone.

I’d say about 98% of the ones that are available from US vendors. I reckon it’s around 300 different tobaccos. Been a while since I’ve counted.

Edit: 268 synthetic and 20something NETs. Close enough to 300.

iirc, they need like 2-4 weeks. As an aside, I would try a tighter mtl vape at a little lower wattage setting. But that’s just me and taste is subjective 🙂

My fav tobacco is HS Deluxe, but I have to use it above 8% to really get much out of it. Too expensive for me.

Haven't met a FLV tobacco that I like yet, but I have around 6 SC/FE tobaccos and like ALL of them.

For me, SC/FE tobaccos are where it's at. Really potent and don't require much steep at all.

FE Oak Milk and Sweet Rice just landed on my desk today - really looking forward to those two as well.

The SC tobaccos were what kept me from giving up on DIY. Before I got a few of those I had some of the old CAP tobaccos, TFA, and Seedman. SC Honey Flue Cured and Blended saved me.

I use Hangsen Essence at 7% (my ADV is PR Tobacco). I mix 250 ml batches and they're vapable after 2-3 days, I consider the steeped after a week. They do need an occasional shake.

My usual mixes are high in PG (70%), which may help taste.
