Burnt taste on Best Damn Pink Lemonade
submitted over 6 years ago by [deleted]

Hey guys. A few days ago my new order arrived and i finally mixed u/Vurve's Best Damn Pink Lemonade

Its really amazing and i like it but every now and then it just suddenly tastes burnt. I checked my coils and everything is fine.

I even rebuilt everything to make sure that everything is working and i get the same problem.

If i empty the tank and try different juices the problem is gone. I can vape multiple tanks and no burnt taste.

As soon as i try the Pink Lemonade again, i get the burnt taste again.

Its not on every puff, sometimes its there, sometimes its not. Does anyone here know what could be the reason?

If other juices dont produce this problem i'm 100% sure its not the cotton/coil, but just in case someone wants more information: I mixed at 50/50, I'm at 0.2Ω (SS at 26AWG, 6 wraps, dual coil) and at around 40-45 Watt.

Sounds to me like you're just not accustomed to unsweetened citrus throat rape which is further compounded by mixing at 50/50. I'd try it at 70/30 vg/pg and see how that goes. Then maybe a little sweetener/EM if it's still too much. Strong citruses aren't for everyone though.

I guess I'll experiment a bit with different ratios of the flavours/PG/VG and maybe some sweetener.

If you stick with it I'd also recommend some WS-23/FA Polar Blast to cool it down. It's lemonade it ain't supposed to be hot.

I actually made 2 versions. One with the normal recipe, one with WS-23. Just had no time to try out the cooled version yet.

I get the same thing happening with my mix at 70/30 on a .2 mesh. It tastes really good then yuck. It happens to me on other lemonades, commercial and diy. Maybe it's something with temperature. Like maybe it hits a certain temp that burns off a compound that builds up while vaping the juice. It sucks because I love lemonades. I wonder if we keep taking long hits every time if that would make sure that yuck gets burned off more evenly.

I think it really is related to the temp because now that i think about it, it seems to happen more often the more i vape.

Do you mix your other juices at 50/50? That's a lot of PG for running 45w

Yes. There are some exceptions but almost all my juices are at 50/50. Also i forgot to mention in the starting post, i vape my juices without any nicotine which could be important to the question because i saw some posts asking about it.

//edit: Back when i started vaping i started with 70PG so i'm used to high PG juices.

And you don't encounter that issue with any other juice mixed at that ratio? Even other citrus mixes?

Never any problems at all with other juices but this is the first citrus juice. Do you think citrus is the reason for that? And if yes: Why and is there any other way to solve that problem besides jumping onto higher VG?

There's a store bought lemonade that I looove that does the same thing. It's not every hit, it's not the coil. I just assumed it's the citrus flavoring or maybe because it has so much sweetener in it.

Exactly, its not every hit. Every now and then it just feels like a dry hit.

My theory is that whatever it is takes a little while to build up on the coils before you get an off hit.

It's the FA-Lemon Sicily. Any thing I put this into you get "dry hit / burnt" taste here and there from it. You are not alone.

I tried making lemon meringue with that ~3% and it's so fking harsh

I was getting this too, I dropped my ramp up on my mod to normal or low depending on the mod and tank I was using. Solved the issue for me.

I'm mostly using my Pico 25 so no special features for that.

I used to be addicted to that stuff. Pretty sure it’s the LA lemonade, for me it gunked my coils quicker than I’m used to and I’d keep my wattage lower with that mix.

Damn good lemonade though

"Coils are fine"..do they look burnt or have build up?

No, nothing. They are clear and fresh and changing the juice in the tank fixes the problem so there is nothinhg wrong with coils or cotton.

Its LA lemonade. For whatever reason it has a burnt taste every few hits. Never used to have this issue but seems to happen now. Might have a crappy batch

Do you know how to fix that problem? LA Lemonade is amazing and I dont really want to replace it.

Would using less of it or combining it with sweetener or anthing else help on that?

Also, you said you never had this problem. What percentages did you use on LA lemonade?

Give it a gooood shake prior to mixing and same for the juice before vaping. I found better success with an RDA as it tends to get really cloudy if left to settle for long (as it does in an RTA). Yet to try FLV lemonade but I hear it's better.

Is the juice cloudy? I Vaped a citrus punch at 10% and it was pretty cloudy and not a great vape. I also had a lime that was equally strong and cloudy at 3% and extremely harsh but I wouldn't say burnt but I could see someone inexperienced percieving it as burnt. In my experience burnt tastes only come from either some gunk burning on the coil surface or the cotton itself so unless that's happening it's likely the malic acid concentration. I find flavors with alot of malic acid never end out being useful as the dominant flavor in a recipe but serve as useful tools at around 1% to spin a dominant flavor like mango at 6% in a different direction. A little bit of malic acid in Capella's mango for example really brings out a pineapple note thats hidden in Capella's mango.

The juice seems to be normal. Its not exactly the same but to me it kind of tastes like a dry hit or atleast something between an RDA thats almost dry and a real dry hit.
