I know this post feels like 5 years ago but I am kinda still obsessed with this juice. (I took a break for 1.5 years, when I came back I felt like it was not the same, but it was still delicious) I tried all the clones out there and probably have 40+ attempts myself. Although there are some tasty recipes among them none are close enough, and I can't get my head around on why this damn thing is so hard to clone.
My clone attempts started by playing with the percentages of common flavorings used in most clones. Then I slowly branched away from the usual clones by incorporating similar flavors from other vendors or introducing other nuts, marzipans, amarettos etc. but I am sadly not one inch closer.
Let me describe how the aroma tastes to me and my specific problem points:
The almond-coconut note: This is the main/leading note, and %70 of the juice for me. If this part was right I could deal with the rest being whatever. These flavors occupy and overlap at the same flavor-coordinates in my palate so it's hard to tell them apart. I don't taste the coconut on its own, but it feels like it's in there (some slight suntan lotion note). There can also be some sort of vanilla or a not super-rich cream mixed in here. I also tried some oak/wood flavors and think they may fit in this note.
The rest: I don't taste Bourbon or brown sugar separately either. It's just syrupy dark sweetness. I have started to question whether TFA Brown Sugar is in it at all. (AP is also another flavoring used in most clones that I am not sure about) My next flavor order will include creme-brulee type of flavorings which I suspect may fit in here better.
I wonder if anyone is still chasing this profile in 2018? I think -like many others- the key is something else in there that we have not discovered yet. So:
- Does anyone have any somewhat obscure flavoring that they think is in there?
- Anyone think TFA Red Oak is in there? (This is one flavoring I can not get my hands on since no one sells it in my country and I can not import it either)
Any info that could even be of slightest help is welcome.
On my ph atm but I remember one called Short Fort - have you checked that out? From memory I don't think it was meant to be a direct clone, but might give you an idea about a direction to take. Have you looked around AllTheFlavors?
I didn't know about that one, checked it out now thanks. (If it's the one on ELR). Sadly it looks similar to all the other clones out there and I have played with these flavorings enough to guess it will not turn out radically different - except Vanilla swirl. I tried Vanilla Swirl long long ago and it didn't work out, but I will mix it up and give another chance. (Before the recipe change, if it ever happened, I could taste something eerily close to French Vanilla Deluxe in there, nowadays not really)
OK - you've probably already seen Smoky Castle by Trandism on ATF?
Thanks, did not know about that one either. I will try to get my hands on those 2 'exotic' flavors (RF & Solub) in there and try them. However, I think TFA Coco Extra is the wrong coconut. I am now well acquainted with it after all those tests and I can taste it around %1 very clearly. It must be another coconut. My best fit currently is TFA Coconut Candy (in higher %) or FA Coconut (in low %) or a combination of both. Tfa Coco Extra, Tfa Coconut (regular), Cap Coconut, FLV Sweet Coconut, FLV Coconut are the ones I eliminated (since they have unique notes that I can identify not found in the juice, then again these could be masked and I could be wrong, Cap Coconut I will be giving another chance). I will be getting some INW Coconut next week to test.
There is a guy who was obsessed with this juice for a long time and put a ton of energy into making a clone. He is over on ECF. I think there is a thread he made dedicated just to it. I'll try to find the link tomorrow but you could probably just google it or search on ECF to find it. The same guy did an Isolani clone which I am pretty sure he made another thread for too so that might help you find him.

Dark part could be a dulce de leche? I've swapped dulce and brown sugar before. They do similar but different things.. Have you tried the almond or coconut from Real Flavors? Their coconut can end up being lotion-y the way FA's does, but has also made me think of toasted coconut flakes when it gets combined with certain things, such as bavarian cream, acetyl pyrazine, nuts.. It plays nicely into nutty profiles in general. Combined with flavorahs sweet coconut it can do some impressive things as well, worth a shot.
I don’t believe RF was around when castle long was created. Well actually Walt did have some flavors at Killer Juice hmm...And FLV definitely wasn’t out yet.. might still get you close just pointing that out..
Hey! I'm (sort of) working on this too!
It's been years since I had castle long, and I'm not exactly in a rush to pick up a bottle and reminisce.
What really got me going on this was trying some king's castle from bluedot. It's in the same area roughly as castle long...
Anyway... I just ordered some stuff to play around with and maybe update this profile. I've literally made one iteration so far.
Flavors I've ordered to fuck about with:
TFA brown sugar
TFA Ken bourbon
TFA coconut
TFA marshmallow
TFA toasted marshmallow
TFA red oak
Acetyl Pryazine
FA almond
FLV coconut
FLV sweet coconut
FLV bourbon
INW shisha vanilla
French vanilla (Cap, tfa?) it's early, can't remember
So yeah, not looking for a 1:1 clone, just a damn delicious, balanced, flavor for a nice after dinner vape.
One of the things that has been exciting me about this undertaking is playing with the Woody, barrel aged notes.
If there's a few of us wanting to walk this road together we should keep in touch. The more monkeys banging away at typewriters the quicker we get to Shakespeare!
Sure man. If you are not looking for 1:1 some of the clones are really tasty and could satisfy your itch. Of the oak flavors I have tried FA Oak Wood and FLV Oak Barrel to some success (I like FLV one better regardless of whether it fits in here, I even enjoy vaping it solo), can't get my hands on TFA Red Oak sadly.
If you're getting actual red oak (as in the smell of a plank) from what you have, you've got what TFA Red Oak gives. Percentages would be different, but Red Oak is like licking a plank or chewing on a handful of sawdust (without the mouth feel). You may hear/see flavour notes that go on about tobacco notes, etc., but those would be coming from people who've never worked with wood. There ain't nothin' there but fresh-sawn red oak. Oak Barrel likely has some "char" flavour as well, which would get you closer to Reserve.
And yes, it is one of those things in (several) Five Pawns recipes that you wouldn't necessarily notice except by its absence.

Hey thanks, I haven't tried it yet but I was actually planning to. Also Cap. has a Chocolate Coconut Almond which I am planning on testing (but this one may have been discontinued since it seems to be out of stock in most places). They seem to be bounty bar style of flavors from the pics but who knows, maybe it can work. I can't buy these 2 locally either, so it will be some time before I can get them.
