Super average review Powerful Sour - Capella
submitted almost 7 years ago by Typical_Pakeha

Tested using a Citadel RDA with alien wire 4 wraps. 0.52 ohms and 40 watts. Juice is 70/30

I've wanted to try this one as ya know, sour. I read a lot of places that sour doesn't translate to vape. However a friend showed me a store bought juice they have and it was fairly sour, it tasted kinda like a sour mango. So I heard of the new cap sour and wanted to try it.

In the bottle it smells like fermented fruits which have been blended into a sour wine.

Tasting it on the back of my knuckles, it's definitely sour, and does taste like how it smells. It has a weird chemical taste on a final note.

Vaping it I tried it at various amounts to see just how 'powerful' it is.

0.25% Getting slight notes of slightly old fruit. Not so much in the way of sour, just lots of VG sweetness.

1% Still getting the fruit, less old fruit though, more like the 'sour' is balancing out the sweetness of the VG. It's almost like the stage of the warheads where you've gone through all of the sour and you're at the sweet stage and occasionally are reminded it once had sour on it.

4% Feels like the old fermented fruits have come back. Has a tartness of white wine cross with a tart cider. Again sweeter than it is sour. It's just a fermented fruit flavour really.

Overall it's more of a fermented fruit sour than it is powerful. As far as uses go, I'd recommend if you're wanting to make a sour beer or cider, it's going to give a fairly realistic sour fruits flavour, however it's definitely in no way a concentrate to make your flavours properly sour, as it is making a sour flavour or taste.

It's a confusing flavour to review and this is my first flavour test so hopefully it makes enough sense. Let me know if you've tried it higher or managed to somehow get a real sour effect from it.

After thoughts, VG is very sweet, maybe doing this with more PG would have been more beneficial?

I had no luck with it , not a fan. Flv sour apple is still the best bet I think.

Yeah super underwhelming, I wasn't going to be hopeful but I tried a NZ vendors flavour and it was proper sour, so I thought there was hope. I know now it's only false hope.

FLV sour is a confusing sour for me, it's very much how Wayne walker puts with when he says it emulates the sour flavour. It's quite a syrupy apple flavour too, but I want to keep on trying to hassle the NZ vendor until some day they share their secret as I didn't get a hint of apple so still no FLV unfortunately.. the hunt continues!

Just curious, why did you jump from 1% to 4%?

Honestly just never really done much single flavour testing so I'm fairly new to it.

The percentages stood out to me because I remember reading an old as thread where someone effectively said we were 'over using' the sour additives. That's why I started so low.

I moved to 1% as I figured it would give me some more effect if it were to happen, and then the 4% because that was the amount which I saw it used in a few recipes on ELR as the 'golden amount'. I didn't have enough clean bottles to do inbetween, but after my tests so far I don't really have enough of an incentive to try inbetween amounts.

If people are interested enough though I can do it though. It's a learning curve for me though as it is my first post where I'm actually contributing back to this subreddit so any tips or advice as welcome :)

This saddens me.

I was really excited for it. It’s sitting on my desk as it just came in this morning. Meh.

It could be, there wasn't a massive difference in the 1% and 4% though in my opinion sadly. Who knows though, you may find it different!

sour tfa is good in the 0.5 to 1.5% range. doesnt bring a shitload of "Sour" to the party, but its definitely there. I'd rate it as more like a sour patch kids sour. Not a super light sour, but not gonna make you pucker super hard. Right in between.

This makes me ask the question...what are the commercial guys using?? We're always led to believe that we have exactly the same products available as they have.....is it just pure malic acid or what??

Have you tried adding (INW) cactus?

Nah didn't even cross my mind, I've never been a fan of cactus though unfortunately, which sucks because I love the effects it has on juices, but I can taste it all the way down to 0.25%

Yeah, I use it to bring out the fruity flavors. .17 percent to .25 is usually good.

This is a horrible flavor, I bought a lot of it as well. One interesting thing is that if you put a little bit in a plate and let it evaporate for a week, you are left with a sticky goo that is powerfully sour in the right way. It loses all that weird meaty flavor and becomes crazy sour.

Stupid to have to go through this process to get what you expected from the beginning, but it does give you powerful sour... eventually.

I mean yeah if you drop it right on your tongue it's super sour too. Maybe it needs a long aired steep? I can give that a go and comment here if I remember.

No, on the plate it becomes 10x as sour as it is on the tongue. I think that number is low. It's like the sour on proper "extreme" sour candy (without the sweet).

I discovered it because a little had spilled on the top of the bottle and I had not noticed. A few weeks later I was testing my stepped single flavor tests of it and noticed the sticky goo on top. I tasted it with my finger and it was just pure sour, no bad after tastes.
