Highlights from last week:
-
We're getting meta with the highlights because last week's questions thread, which was really a highlight thread, is also the top thread from last week and is now a highlight. The recursion is real, folks.
-
/u/shitty_hat gave us a heads up about fraudulent charges, with some supporting evidence in the comments about which vendor is to blame. It can happen to any of them and has on more than one occasion--definitely worth checking out Privacy.com to mitigate the problem.
-
And apparently ya'll like tearable puns or were just handing out pity upvotes for my weak takeover of FOTW--So glad /u/ID10-T is back.
-
/u/kindground advocated for quality recipe reviews in his words "If you take the time to mix something please also take the time to review it. Good or bad, terrible or mind blowing, review it and remember to be constructive and provide something of value to that mixer. It's the least you can do for someone that shared their work with the community." But read the post if you haven't, there's more good stuff.
-
/u/mrgruszka dropped another review that lines up nicely with the Flavor of the Week: INW Wild S. Ice Cream
-
/u/harry_nice whipped up some Nice Lemon Sugar Pancakes to share, was prodded to add some development notes--did exactly that and... it was nice. Check it.
-
And finally if you're ever feeling like you want to post a recipe to the front page but you're not sure what your notes should look like, check out /u/AlfredPudding's sidebar worthy post Recipe Template (I actually put it in the sidebar, too)
Come chat with us on Discord.
So glad you added pudding’s work in the sidebar. That was some top level posting. sigh I need to make time to organize my ideas for community project. I’m a horrible man.
This may be a VERY dumb question but I'm going to ask anyway.

When it comes to steeping; should I be making multiple bottles of a juice and allowing one to stay untouched and steep for a long period (say 4 weeks) or is it ok to make one bottle and sample this bottle over the course of time to determine the impact of steeping?

I'm asking because I do no know the impact, if any, of vaping a juice that should be steeped for longer periods before it's reached "maturity". Is there any risk of degrading the flavor due to periodically vaping the juice?
You can absolutely sample it throughout the steep. It’s very beneficial to learn the effect as you suggested. Some people actually recommend opening the bottle to let the alcohol/volatiles in some flavorings purge from the liquid. For example, FA Vienna Cream tastes like nail polish remover to some people, and letting it vent is the only solution they find.
Also bear in mind that not all juices need to be steeped. If you're making juices with tobaccos or creams then yes steeping is essential (2-4 weeks average - depending on concentrates). Custards like a steep too, but INW Custard seems to be good to go pretty much overnight. Fruits, generally, are fine to shake and vape.
So I have a couple questions that are pretty unrelated and I sincerely apologize if I’m missing something somewhere but.
Is there a list somewhere with the recommended percentage for CAP flavors? I’ve always mixed @10% with TFA but through some recent research I’ve seen that that’s just overkill for certain flavors.
Second question is where can I find cbd oil that is safe to use in e liquid?
Thanks for any and all the help guys, have a good evening!
Your best bet for percentages is to look up the flavor on alltheflavors.com and e-liquid-recipes.com and see the average usage percentages. Then look at the recipes listed on that page that use that flavor. Be sure to sort the recipes by rating as well so you get the top rated recipes. This will give you an idea of % in different types of recipes. This is beneficial for several reasons. For example fruits in an all fruit recipe will be relatively low in percentage. Fruits in a fruit and cream (or an ice cream or custard) may be pushed higher to be able to push through the creams.
It really depends on the flavors used. You can look up the individual flavors.
Try r/cbd

Dumb question, but can you use nic salts to make regular juice (3mg)? Like just substitute it for freebase? Sorry if it’s a dumb question I just wanted to maybe get some to make juice for pod devices and if I can just substitute it then I’d use it for all my juices
What's up with FW natural lemonade, it looks like there's oil in it. I mixed my nic, distilled water, then added the lemonade and I got a lava lamp lol. When I shake it it clings to the bottle oddly. Did I buy a no no flavor? 😅
A lot of people from Oz apparently use it, as it's challenging to source LA Lemonade on the wrong portion of the planet. If they haven't died from it yet, I think you're ok.
I have a large bottle 70/30 VG/PG @ 6mg nic with no flavour.
If I use it to water down a batch I've already made, do I have to let it steep again?
I had a dream...

I didn't want to make a single post about it but I'd love to get some help from the more experienced mixers in the sub (which is most of you, compared to me).
This whole diy thing seems to grow on me because I had a rather vivid dream about a juice I made that all my friends and family raved about. The only problem is, I did not yet make it and can only rely on information from this dream I had.
Normally I name a juice after I made it... this time I know the name and the two main flavors it has, but nothing more.
The name is "Grazelnut", the two flavors are INW Grape and FW Hazelnut.
Since the beginning of october, I made four versions which were all... underwhelming to put it mildly.

If someone would be so kind to try and help me develop this juice to something that's actually great, I would be forever thankful.
My best (as in, not as bad as the others) try to this date was:
- INW Grape @ 3%
- FW Hazelnut @ 2.5%
- TPA Toasted Almond @ 0.4%
- INW cactus @ 0.4% (to combat some of the dryness)
Here is a link to my flavor stash on ELR.
I really want to make this work, and if I'll have to buy 5 new flavors to do so then so be it.
Thanks in advance for your help!

This is really interesting! I really wish you luck with this one - I'm not sure how you might handle this.
I'm probably just goint to make this juice project my "white whale". At least I have something to chase in 2019.
I have a few FLV Tobaccos and some other related concentrates i was wanting to incorporate into a pod recipe (for my nautilus aio). I know you need to jack up the percentages quite high and most info on flavorings is more for subohm style setups. Im wanting to try and make a simple tobacco forward RY4 style recipe/Vanilla Caramel tobacco.
Here are the flavors i have, if anyone could suggest safe percentages i could run these concentrates up to i would really appreciate it. For my recipe i will probably try and limit myself to 3-4 flavors but i want to mess around with different combos in the list below:
- FLV Conneticut Shade
- FLV Virginia Tobacco
- FLV Tatanka Tobacco
- FLV Cured Tobacco
- FLV Red Burley
- FA Soho
- GLF Ry4 Double
- HS Ry4
- TFA Ry4 Double
Hi. That's a nice list of tobaccos. Pesonally I like darker pipe type tobaccos but ADVs more subtle sweeter or hints of ry4. Tobaccos mix well but don't exaggerate, The FLV tobaccos you will taste them at even 1.5%.
But here u go a bit more complex one:
TFA Ry4 Double - 3-% max5% depending on ry4 strength
FLV Red Burley - 2% (1.5 if more ry4)
FLV Cured - 1.5% (1 if more ry4)
FLV Tatanka or Conneticut Shade - 1% (0.5 if more ry4)

(steep some days but FLV is good right away)

or.
3% FA SoHo
5% TFA Ry4 Double
For a straight ry4.

HS ry4 never tried.
I want to make the Water Malone recipe but FLV Watermelon contains diacetyl.
Any good replacements around?

Edit: Could FA Watermelon work?
Has anyone who ordered from Bull City Flavors in the past week receive shipping confirmation yet? How long does it usually take for them to ship orders?
I placed an order Monday night, haven't received shipping information, or any info for that matter, and the order is still listed as "Waiting Fulfillment". Is it the post office failing to scan packages, because if so, the vendor will usually list the status as "Shipped", at the very least...
It’s possible that they’re behind due to the holiday sales but they’re typically still very quick with shipping. I’d definitely reach out to them before the weekend, just in case something went awry.
I placed an order last Friday and got it today.
ah, yea I prolly should've ordered earlier but a couple of the flavors went out of stock and I got overwhelmed at w/ which flavors to choose as replacements, as this is my 2nd DIY order.
I'm pretty new to vaping (switched from smoking about 2 months ago) and so far mixing different flavors and testing new stuff is what makes the most fun to me. I dont have that many different flavors and i'm about to order a good chunk of new flavors to test more and more. The problem is that so far i only have one recipe that i really enjoy and i cant really find other good ideas in that direction. I dont really enjoy all the creamy/cake/cookie/milk stuff (and no tabacco) and it seems like most of the recipes out there are about that. My current ADV cotains Apple, Vanilla, something that seems to be called "sweetscented bedstraw" in english (Waldmeister in german) and menthol. Besides that i'm more on the fruit side (apple, pineapple, strawberry, melon and more) and also a fan menthol. Anyone here who likes the same direction who could recommend me some recipe ideas? What flavors would be the best if i want to continue trying stuff without drifting too much into a bakery? Also, are there any ways on the common recipe websites to search for recipes that contain flavors without searching for a specific brand behind that flavor? I know that 2 pineapple flavors wont be the same but atleast it gives a minimal idea of the final product without ordering 20x the same flavor.
Have a look at the flavour of the week posts (in the sidebar) and look at the fruits you're interested in. From there you can see which are generally considered better and look at the flavour reviews (also sidebar). From there you can narrow down the searches on the recipe sites looking for some you want to try.
I would search ELR for flavorings, just type the fruit you like and buy the most popular. Not review stars, but how many times they are used in a recipe. So you don't end up with flavors that you don't use. I did this but ended up liking the most popular Strawberries and apples ect anyways. If u need any specific recommendations just ask. Some popular fruits are very different. Feks with apple - green apple, candy to juicy (Capella) and more citrusy like (FA). Some are smoother, and some like FA Fuji very very good, a classic, but harsher than Double Apple or Fuji by Capella.
So this may be a dumb question, but I have some LevelUP vapor nicotine salts right now but I want to increase the %. Would it work if I bought nicotine salts from nicotine river and mixed it with the juice I have? Would it work properly or would it taste off?
Hi guys, ive got a question. Im currently using TFV8 Cloudbeast with Q4 coil. Just bought TPA Passion fruit. Anyone got good recipe for this? I mean %of aroma and pg/vg. Thank you very much!
An actual recipe or just a single flavor amount?
Maybe im stupid but I dont sti dont know how to use it as a single aroma
Did you look at the graph? Most public recipes use it at 2%. There are some private recipes using it at 5%. That should give you some clues. Try it at 2-3% and add more if you need to. You can always add more flavor but you can never take it out. So start low and go up.
Okay i bought DX Banana Cream from TPA/TFA. Any good %? I want it solo to taste like goddamn banana cream (pg/vg proportions would be also nice!) Vaping by TFV8 cloudbeast
It's highly recommended if you're looking for a specific flavor profile to look up recipes matching that then buying the flavors required for it. You can use alltheflavors.com to find recipes. 70vg/30pg is just about standard.
You can find recommended flavor percentages at ATF as well. Look up the flavor in question to find its average percent usage in a recipe. This is a good starting point for single flavor tests. DX Banana Creams is 4%.
I've been playing with the INW Yes We Cheesecake! / CAP NY Cheesecake / TFA Cheesecake (Graham Crust) trinity. If I'm looking for more graham crust, what would be the best ingredient to tweak? Would adding something like TFA Graham Cracker work?
