Still relatively new to DIY. Started with one-shots and premixed base...and now going with Community flavor packs + seperate vg/pg/nic next. Is 10-15% total flavor a good average to use as a baseline for estimates? Does my math look good?

That title seems unnecessarily long.

Your math looks fine. Anything left over is unlikely to go bad before you can use it, so you probably don’t need to get much more precise with your estimates... unless there’s some reason you didn’t mention in the post.

I wouldn't even worry about having too little/much of flavors, since u might not like some, you won't use even amounts, etc. That all sounds good tho. Try flavors individually and write notes to see how they might mix or just make the recipes.

Total percentage doesn't really mean anything, because some flavourings are weak at 5% or very strong at only 1%. I have one recipe that is very mild at 12% total, yet another that has loads of flavour totals out at only 4.5%

Also, since we all have different palates and sensitivities a percentage that tastes great to you might be too weak or too strong for someone else.

10-15% is just the average total for most eliquid hence why the premixes are recommended within those ranges.

If you're slightly off in measurement you probably won't notice a difference honestly. It's not like you're working with the actual concentrates where some of them can destroy a mix if you accidentally put in an extra couple drops.

Aaah shucks.... I miss the days when I could order 100mg nic...

Also, yeah, sure 10-15% is an alright estimate for many recipes. My own recipes usually hover around 4-7%. That being said my base is 50/50 or 60/40.

I would too, if I hadn't ordered enough to have a couple liters currently in my freezer...

I did that... But way too early and then I didn't stock up again... Silly me!

My flavors were 4-6%, but my flavor source was pure (non-diluted) flavors (word on the street is bull city buys their flavors from same source I get mine from).

ejuicemeup calculator is your friend. get it. :)

Honestly you don't really need that much nic and stuff unless you plan on selling alot of bottles. If that's the case get your bottles on fasttech and order before you run out to save money. 2.75 for 5 x 60ml bottles seems to be about the going rate for those but expect a few defects. If it's for personal use i would order a third of what you've calculated. I reccomend you calculate and order no more than what you can sell and consume within 2 months. Don't account for leftover flavors, your a collector now. Reasoning why I suggest you only order what you can consume in 2 months is because although flavors will be left over, you'll always wanna try new flavors. Plus it makes sure your nic is always good and allows for more mistakes. Over half of my flavors never get used so don't buy flavors over 30ml untill you've used them alot. The community packs are probably fine I'm sure.

>My one flavor reccomendation is Flavor West Cookies and Cream. Its mostly a cream, but god is it amazing. I fixated on creams for my first year mixing and it takes the cake. MILKYOS is a great flavor that uses it. She's honestly good enough as a one shot or as a substitute for creams in Bakery recipes.

Totally depends on the flavors. Recipes I use go from from 2.5% to 20%. Strawberry in particular tends to need a lot, up to 10% frequently - and that's just the strawberry, not the total flavor %.

DIY your e-liquids is much like cooking. Sure you don't want too little taste or not enough, but are you measuring your flour or eggs for a cake by the mg or milliliter?

Some aroma taste very strong: menthol, licorice, fruits... others require more to be dominant: chocolate, coffee, tobacco... Once you learn that, you can really do most recipes by the look and feel rather than perform very precise measurements.

Actually, cooking is much more freeform, while baking usually involves enough chemistry that measurements are fairly important. And also involve mixing in quantities far in excess of what we mix, so the margin of error is scaled up. Of course, all of our flavorings are much more potent, but I've done baking where, in a 5+cup mixture, there's some ingredient (clove, usually) being added at 1/8tsp. That's well under .5% of the mix... Your analogy is flawed, just like your advice. And tobacos and chocolates can be fairly potent. .25% FLV milk chocolate probably Asante a word with you.
