Am i crazy? Why my diy Nic juices are bitter giving me sore throats and ZERO Nic hit (and my friends' sames not)?
submitted almost 7 years ago by Johnbelwell

So i have this problem and that is not only with a specific juice....

I'm years into making juices,i know everything about mixing them, but basically when i make DIY juices with Nicotine i get eliquids that are very harsh.

No matter the Nic % content,pg or vg nic, also brand, the same thing happens...

I get ---ZERO--- Nic hit and instead i get a bitter - sand eating like feel in my mouth and throat... to the point i chainvape to get the nic hit i need and ending up with a sore throat.

Nics are not a problem,pg/vg ratio is also not a problem, friends of mine are using similar recipes, and i tried their liquids for years and there is absolutely no problem.

For example a friend of mine has had his "shake and vape" Juice made at the shop,70/30 at 3mg nic, when i mixed the SAME juice at home using the exact same ingredients and ratios for a final 3mg as instructed ---- ZERO Nic feeling, sore throating like hell.

Shaking the heck out of the Nic base does kind of improve it but NOT to a point it is Vapable.

I have spend a lot of money for juices that ending down the sink.

The same thing happened to some ready made brands of juices i've tried in the past too,but i do not understand why.

I usually vape at 3mg,but even 18mg is not as harsh as 1mg of Nic in my DIY juices.

What the heck is going on finally? No vape shop seems to understand what i mean and think i'm crazy or overreacting.

I repeat for clarity: Different nic/flavor brands and pg/vg ratios are totally irrelevant to the problem, the same thing happens no matter what.

Spend like another 15 bucks today for to make a bottle and i'm afraid i will throw it outta the window.

Pissed off any Gypsies? Because it sure sounds like you've been cursed or something. There's no reasonable rational explanation.

>I'm years into making juices,i know everything about mixing them

Sure, buddy. You wouldn't be asking this question then. First off, you're not "making" juice when you buy premixes + nic shots and throw them together. Second, you come off as cocky and ignorant, and I almost don't want to help you as a result. Maybe have some humility next time you need help?

To really answer your question:

Sounds like you're probably not mixing thoroughly enough, and have hotspots of nic sitting in suspension. Measurement could be off. How exactly are you measuring the nic?

To make sure it's actually mixed together: Heat it up a little bit by running it under warm water, only enough to thin the liquid- then, shake the everloving fuck out of it for at least a minute. Let it sit for an hour.

Most likely your nicotine is oxidized. Get some quality nicotine and see if that helps you.

It does seem like the nicotine is oxidized, but is there any step i need to know that can make the nicotine go bad when mixing it? Because the same Nic in my friends' juices does not appear to make me sick.

What I like to do is I order a 120 of 100 mg nic. Then I get 120 ml of vg or pg whatever you use, and add it to it so then you have 240 ml of 50 mg nic. I then make sure everything is very well stirred up so you don’t have any nic hot spots. Then bottle it in 30 ml bottles. Try to let it be exposed to air as little as possible. After it’s bottled up put it in the freezer. This way you will only be exposing 30 ml of 50mg nic at a time every time you open the bottle instead of exposing 120 of 100mg nic. You’ll have to add double the amount you usually would but your nicotine will be a lot smoother on your throat and your nic will last a lot longer.

How do you store your nicotine?

UPDATE: Dumped the bottle as the Nicotine was previously oxidized or went bad in a magical way when i mixed the juice. Seems like it's better to get ready made juices from tested batches as this problem gets me sick. THANKS for all of your answers!

Try Hiliq or Social-lites.com unflavoured nic base.

You choose the ratio of pg/ vg and nic %...then just play with flavours.

What nic?

I've used pretty much all the 50/50,vg and pg 20mg booster bottles i could find from local brands in south europe for any ratio liquid you can imayine. One of them is ToB from Italy, other is Atmoslab (greek) and some others vape shop brands - which when make their way into a liquid by other people and not me,are totally fine when i test them.

See nic expiration notes.

This current one which gives me the same effect expires in 2020. Definitely a mixing problem which i don't understand.

Well I think the problem would be incorrect storage? That's all I can think of. Temp of the storage area, being exposed to sun, etc.

Contaminated mixing equipment/bottles? What do you wash them in/how do you wash your stuff? Are you shaking by hand or some other method? Are you steeping?

Just trying to think of things that haven't been mentioned yet.

what do you mean " by shaking " other method"? what else can you for shaking, mixing?

I have recently started using a tiny bottle brush to stear inside the bottle, but I wash it after every use.

I wanted to know if OP just hand-shakes to mix or uses something else (immersion blender, vortexter, stir plate, etc). More information=better able to diagnose the problem.

Not likely. For example look at the most evidence setting case is the one i'm talking about with the "shake and vape" juice:

Me and a friend of mine got the same shake and vape bottle of juice

  1. My friend's got his own one mixed by the dudes in the shop An hour later we were vaping at 3mg and no problem at all

  2. I got the same flavor and base, nic (ratio, brands, etc),the dudes gave me the stuff to mix it my self when i got home When i mixed i felt no Nicotine and my throat was getting sore.

No way the recipe is wrong,i just added the same ingredients the shop added to the other flavor.

Then u/juthinc is correct and you've been cursed by a gypsy I guess

Did you get the nic at the same place you got the flavors? Really sounds like oxidized nicotine, like others have said. Exposure to heat, light and/or air will speed up the oxidation significantly, so try to keep it cool, out of the sun, and keep the cap on at all times when not in use.

As this is store bought it is really hard to tell. But i will try to test the next batch i'll get.

I just got rid of it 2 days ago.

I had a topic here thinking I had serious health issue vape related...but nobody wanted to see it that way. Went to the doctor, who gave me some antifungal mouth wash and antibiotics for my throat.

Your nic is off, oxidized.

I emptied everything, washed all the bottles, throwed away all my unflavoured juice with nic.

Luckily I have some bottles with good nic left and now I have to wait for the new shipment.

Everybody says it the way you store your juice, but I have the same conditions for 2 years now.

I think that they have sent old nic because my first batch was ok a bit harsh but ok...the second batch I made was off but have never encountered something like that, I read about it but I was expecting the color will changr as everybody says and that was not the case.

Just get rid off it.
