Guys, please, help me out! I'm afraid that nicotine will oxidise if I order one big bottle of 500ml 72mg/ml instead of many bottles.
submitted almost 7 years ago by Pakhomoff

I want to get meself half o'liter 72mg/ml, presumably in pure VG, but I'm afraid it'll come hotspotted all-around and VG is prone to hydrolising, it'll destroy nicotine. Maybe pure PG would be a better solution, heh, without shaking it too often, as bubbles you get during shaking would shorten life-span of base and it doesn't turn to water... Will it last me 9 months or so without spoiling?

So get it in PG and break it down into smaller amber glass bottles stuck in the back of your freezer. Problem solved.

That's what I do I'll get a big bottle break it into 30ml Amber vials, throw all but one vial in my freezer then throw the last bottle in my fridge.

Another for storing it in the freezer. I bought 2L when I started and pour it into a 30ml when I run out.

It being VG means it'll be incredibly thick while pouring so pre-splitting it is a good shout, or use a funnel.

I buy 50/50 now, still on my first test test batch with 50/50 it's working out real well and you can suck it through syrangines even when it's cold

This is my favorite use for empty 2oz glass flavor bottles from wizard labs. They are clear, so i have them in a small cardboard box in the freezer. 500ml 100mg/ml 100% pg (cuz the first bottle of frozen VG was a nightmare... Like pouring cold molasses) lasts me about a year.

Since I've moved to 100ml bottles for finished juice, the math is dead simple. With 100mg, even with pg flavors, I can get 80-90% finished VG though a 70/30 ratio seems to be the sweet spot between flavor, smoothness, clouds and tank friendly viscosity.

Don't buy nicotine in VG unless you are completely intolerant of pg.

Get 10x50ml glass bottles. 9 of them you will store in your freezer, and 1 in the fridge for usage.

Don’t overthink this. I buy about a year worth of liquid at a time for myself and my wife and have never had an issue. I try to store in 500ml bottles at the largest, make sure you only have one open at a time, and keep them in the fridge.

My wife is happily vaping the last 30mls of the batch of Tiger’s Blood I mixed up for her in August of 2017 as I type this and then had fresh batches of juice waiting in the fridge that will take her through to the end of 2019.

Air, heat, and light are the enemies, in that order. A closed bottle in a refrigerator protects against all three.

Bit off topic but is that the 6% tigers blood recipe?

Probably not. I found a few recipes and tinkered for a while and then dialed it in to her preference. Nothing fancy, but it’s customized to the way she likes it now.

Man pg nic will last a long time especially if you use a wine preserver/argon to purge oxygen from the bottle when you close it.

I ordered a liter and it will last me close to a year. My previous was 500ml and the last little bit has started to oxidize because I haven’t been purging the bottle since there is so much airspace.

If you want to go so nuts as to purge the atmosphere in the bottle, just use CO2, it's nonreactive enough and a shit-ton cheaper than argon.

I just use wine preserver from amazon it’s cheap and convenient.

Not so cheap as last year however; the price of argon must've gone up.
This is the one I've been using.

how do u know when it oxidizes?

2 points

by Kickinback32almost 7 years ago

It’ll start to develop a brown or pink color and taste wise it’ll get peppery/spicy.

The color is very slight you almost need to hold it up against a white background.

It doesn't degrade as much as people like to make out. I had some 8 year old nicotine tested that had been kept in just a dark cupboard and it had only lost a tiny bit of potency (4mg). It was still fine to vape as well, though orange.

Shake an decant in smaller bottles. Then put most of it in the freezer except what you want on hand. Will last for years.

I think it's better to get the PG version, but that's because it does not get as viscous as VG when cold.

Store it in the freezer, and you'll be fine.

PG is simply a better, more absorbant carrier/base, but is much harsher than VG, thinner, and potentially allergenic to some ppl etc. I stay away from PG, but it does have its uses.

As others have said, simply decant into smaller glass bottles and freeze. If that isn't an option and you don't mind the harshness, PG nic would be better for you, especially if you plan on storing it at room temp, which I don't recommend. I'm sure you know it's best to freeze nic no matter what base it's in.

I threw mine in freezer too but it's in PET bottles instead. Is this screwed up?

It's better than nothing! I'd get a few cheap and reusable glass bottles though. Essentially you want to protect it from light, heat, air, and moisture.

Point taken. Thanks a bunch!

Ordered 1L of 72mg before regulations hit here in the EU. PG is nice, I just took it out of the freezer and made 1L of base to keep out. Worked a charm!

Just put it in the freezer. It’s really not that big of a deal.

I ordered a liter of 100mg/ml nicotine in PG and broke it down into 4 smaller glass bottles, not even amber just clear, and stuck them in the freezer. I take one out for like 10 minutes each time I make juice then put it back in the freezer. I've had the nicotine for over a year and it's still good, pretty much clear with no peppery taste.

I quite like the idea of the nic from nudenicotine that comes in their fancy lifespawn prolonging packaging. They also have some sort of additive infused type of nic that apparently solves that problem for people worried about their nic oxidizing. Personally I just break it down into amber bottles and only keep a small bottle stashed in a box that is used before oxidation would ever be a problem. Then I just grab a new bottle out of the freezer when needed. Havent had any issues yet but I am gonna try nudenic and their new nic next order and see what its all about.

Have a deep freeze? i've had nicotine in they're forever and it's still good, no peppery smell yet, best solution probably not, good enough for me you bet.

Now that summer is over there shouldn’t be issues w nicotine like there are during the warmer months enduring shipping in the heat sometimes spoiling the nicotine a little bit. I think now until spring is the better times to order your nicotine, but even later in the year if u can wait to better guarantee cool weather because I think Nicotine River is in a pretty warm climate yet until Nov/ Dec..but the other places are maybe cool already it’s easy to find out. To be safest that’s when I order mine, always in the cold months....;)

I've got a single 120ml of VG sitting on my bar since I filled it ~last spring -- I use a recycled, brown boston round from a previous purchase from CXT (one of their sample bottles, which makes it convenient towards not relabeling). I under-fill it to about 100ml and top it off with Wine Preserver (a blend of N2/CO2/Ar) and mine's been fine (no real off color (very very slight pink tint from the CO2) and no off taste). I top off the 500 with the preserver, too, and stuff it back in the freezer until I need to refill...
