Placid-ish
submitted almost 7 years ago by Bmil

Recently I have been craaaving the strawberry/lime combo that Placid delivers on HARD; I figured I have a bunch of shit and I did need to mix new juice, so why not try to scratch the itch a liiiiiiiiiiitle bit; well I did more than that and in just an hour have been nonstop going at this thing.

Before people say it, I know this isnt a 100% clone, I know that VERY VERY well, its missing a LOT. This was made as a spur of the moment grab a couple flavors cuz I need juice for the AM; the only thought behind this was "I like Placid, I have Lime Tahiti and a bunch of Strawberry, fuck it".

This was tried as a shake and vape no steeping. I know from memory that Placid is VERY harsh on the lime at first until it sits for a little, I can assume I need more lime. I was low on Honeysuckle so that could probably be higher as well, and I didnt even think of pear, I had strawberry on the mind, so that would have to be added for authenticity. So here is my starting point:

  • Strawberry Ripe (TFA) @ 3%
  • Sweet Strawberry (CAP) @ 3%
  • Shisha Strawberry (INW) @ 3%
  • Honeysuckle (TFA) @ 0.5%
  • Lime Tahiti Cold Pressed (FA) @ 0.5%

Now, I remember reading about Placid having 4 different companies for ingredients, and bam, 4 different companies; TFA, CAP, INW, FA. I would hazard a guess the Pear in here is TFA as well. The lime DEFINITELY needs to be stronger, next mix its going to 0.75% or 1%, Honeysuckle going up to 1.5% probably but I need to order more as I only have enough for maybe one more batch of the above.

Now here is what sucks: Honeysuckle and Lime Tahiti Cold Pressed are a bitch to work with, theyre VERY strong flavors, and I know that LTCP has VERY harsh throat hit when you have too much. Ive tried some of the placid clones on here before, and I think anything about 1% is going to be a bad time. Honeysuckle does not have this issue, this is the main ingredient in Pluto clones and at a VERY high % but without harshness; on the flip side it can be a VERY dominant flavor; this was kind of a happy accident in the above mix as I added it to make the strawberries a little brighter and tie together better, which was inspiration from a Tiger's Blood clone, I didnt set out to make Placid I just wanted my Strawberries and Lime man.

I am VERY happy with this mix, its quick and simple, shake and vapes very well, and the lime and honeysuckle are at points where they can be tasted but dont overpower the sweetness of the strawberries (I have become a huge fan of CAP Sweet Strawberry, and have always loved INW Shisha Strawberry). I think Shisha Strawberry is a key to Placid, the two have a very very similar flavor note that is fairly distinct, but never before this had I tried it with the Lime and its perfect. I cant say I have seen a Placid clone with Shisha Strawberry in mind but as I continue to vape on this I am nearly certain its in there.

Why 3 Strawberries? I wanted Strawberry Lime juice to scratch an itch, I didnt expect to be up at 3 AM writing this but I feel like I need to get it on paper before I forget. I usually use at least 3 Strawberries for any juice I have Strawberry if its a primary flavor; I have used INW Shisha Strawberry and TFA Ripe for years and have loved how they go together, the CAP Sweet is a newer one to me and I have been very happy with it, slightly sweet and not really an artificial flavor type IMO.

Why 3%? Quick and easy, I just needed quick morning juice, a lot of flavors seem to do really well at around 3%, I have tried going over that with Strawberries and found that going beyond 4-6% doesnt really add a whole lot of flavor, but instead of bumping up single flavor %'s, adding a variety of Strawberry flavorings adds more flavor.

If you just want something quick and easy to mix up, there you have it, you probably dont need to go further. But I plan on using this as a base for a true Placid clone, hopefully this helps with the recipes of others as well.

Plans for V2:

  • Add TFA Pear @ 2% to start, adjust as needed

  • Increase Honeysuckle and LTCP to 1% each

I know youve put a lot of work into cloning Placid, maybe something here helps you.

I would appreciate it if you mixed it up as it sits, try it out, and let me know what you think. You have been chasing Placid a lot and I want to know if I am completely off base and out of my mind or onto something here. I think its #2.

I can't guarantee when I'll get to it but when I do I'll let you know. I do have all those flavors so that's a first lol.

I've tried tweaking some of the placid recipes I've found various ways with no success.

That would be great, i know it's not close but the base flavors seem to be there to a degree. As I mentioned in another comment it's possible Key limeis in there as well but I want to test LTCP as the solo lime in there before adding additional possible flavors.

Rock on /u/bmil maybe I’ll whip up a batch and taste test it. You’re definitely missing some here, but as your intention was just a strawberry lime it makes sense.

Well damn, thanks for stopping by. Hopefully you like it! I'm enjoying it as is for sure so it's definitely something I plan on making again. And of course Placid is still something I need to buy, this was more to tide me over and use what I've got on hand.

Personally, I find that honeysuckle needs to be at or above 2% to stand up against acidic flavors.
I like LTCP, but I never seem to use it for its flavor, rather for its mouthfeel. In a recipe like this, I’d probably use LA Key Lime instead.

I've played around with Key alone in the past, and stand alone it just didn't have the punch that LTCP has, its entirely possible that both are being used. I've tried a mixture of both as well, if upping the % of LTCP solo doesn't work, key lime is going back in. The issue with LTCP is just it's so concentrated that a small % change can make a big difference.

Honeysuckle at 2% might be needed, we will have to see.

I transplanted your strawberries into omwdn's clone. So:

3 cap sweet sb 3 TFA sb ripe 3 INW ssb .5 FA ltcp .5 TFA key lime 4 TFA Honeysuckle 2.5 TFA pear

The strawberry is on point, and I think you're on to something there. And it gives you the 4 vendors. But the lime is weak, to me at least. Placid fresh can almost choke you out with lime, and it took a week or two to mellow out. Next batch I am going to do 1% ltcp and leave everything else the same.

I will never forget the first time I tried Placid and got pretty much all lime lol. This looks great, I'll have to get more honeysuckle and give it a whirl.

I think the onmywaydownnow clone had got it pretty much on the money with .5 key lime and .5 ltcp. I'm excited to try this though, I have everything and I'm going to start playing the pear and Honeysuckle. Thanks man.

Any suggestions for LTCP and TFA Key Lime?I have both and have tried to come up with a good placid clone using one or the other but if i were to use both i dont know how much i should mix. My placid clones never turn out. I have all the necessary flavors but there are just so many different recipes. Maybe i just havent found the right one.

Over the last 2 months I have been pretty much vaping only Placid (yay black friday), this recipe is waaaaaaaaaay different to actual Placid. It works as a decent start, but again my original intent was Strawberry/Lime which it worked for and Placid has WAAAAAAAAY more lime and way less strawberry.

If i was to do a V2, I would have to cut the strawberry to probably just the INW Shisha; however the issue becomes the lime. Im not sure if its because my LTCP is just too old or if the flavor acts weird after a certain %, i need more testing to determine that, but after trying it at 3-5% it actually felt weaker than at 1%; this may be from the age of the bottle so I do want to get a fresh bottle of that stuff before I go and mix a ton of different versions. Knowing Adirondack and the past recipes that they have released, its possible that one of the two limes, or both, are at crazy %'s. I do think that the LTCP is at at least 3% based off a fresh bottle of Placid. The lime is VERY strong at first, after about a month of steeping it becomes less prevalent but still fairly strong. Where this flavor is primarily strawberry, Placid is primarily lime, if not in % at least in flavor profile. This is what makes placid hard to clone, lime flavorings can be very overpowering and mask the other flavors present; I dont really taste a whole lot of the pear in Placid but its definitely there, the honeysuckle is there as well but that also adds to the mouthfeel of the juice and is also a powerful flavor.

Overall its a hard juice to pin down, my next mix (once I refresh some flavors) is going to focus a lot more on the lime aspect of the juice, I do still strongly believe that the primary strawberry is the INW Shisha, and it may be the sole strawberry as well. I want to for my next mix cut the other two strawberries and bump LTCP to 2% and Key Lime to 5% and see where that takes me.

I like placid but cannot use due to the vomit undertone. I'm very sensitive to the butyric acid in it
