Highlights from last week:
/u/qu38mm gave the subreddit a quick thank you because clearly we’re just that awesome.
/u/apexified (oh, that’s me) updated the flavor review wiki with a bunch of new flavor reviews.
Speaking of flavor reviews /u/Ernie_is_dead reviewed the whole FlavourArt Pazzo line
/u/juthinc confirmed that there are a few flavors he actually likes with his latest, cleverly named recipe GIGI a recursive acronym for GIGI Is Grack Improved. What a bold claim!
/u/jaydedrag0n asked about Trinities which, if you don’t know, are combinations of 3 flavors to make one specific well rounded version of a flavor.
And finally there was Throwback Thursday with it’s request for recipes that are made entirely of Flavor West… unsurprisingly the thread is rather bare. If you have some all FW recipes, go there and share.
We have an official Discord server if anyone wants to join and chat: https://discord.gg/ufVTyAQ
I've never noticed the highlights section before. Very cool.
Thanks
If you want to check out highlights from the previous weeks they’re all here
Clover flavor. Where the hell is it?
Hey everyone!
FLV Creme de Menthe: I'm in denial about the chocolate note and it's trying to kill me.
Does anyone have advice for subduing that note, or should I fling this shit into the sun?
While I'm at it... why is chocolate so gut-clenchingly fucking disgusting in vapes?
So I actually like the chocolate note in FLV Creme de Menthe, even though it really makes it not a creme de menthe flavor and more of an Andes mint or York Peppermint patty flavor.
I don't think you can cover it up. But I have been wrong about that before. I never thought it would be possible, for example, to cover up the prominent coconut note in FLV's Chocolate Deutsche. But /u/Shyndo proved me wrong about that by using it in a recipe that completely covered it up. Come to think of it, it was creme de menthe that he used to cover it up.
Long way of saying, I don't think you can cover it up, but I'd love for someone to prove me wrong about that.
It isn't. It's just not perfectly chocolate. But it's still better than vanilla, just like most things, and just like in real life. And just like most things in real life.
It's terrible and terrifying.
I'm going to try negating it with a scooch of FLV White Chocolate; perhaps there is some FLV "chocolate" X2 equals okay! math I haven't reached yet.
I suspect you wouldn't like that any better (white chocolate is really just vanilla flavored sugar-fat, hmm?), but this concentrate is pissing me off. It's just almost right, but so very wrong.
Anyone play with Grack Juice by philosaphucker by using a few different fruits? Or make a grack-esque recipe using something like FA forest fruit?
Tried using INW cherries instead of Cap Sweet Strawberry, waiting on a steep.
Thanks!
Do people still use INW Peach since the reformulation ? I'm looking for a replacement if necessary and there's not much feedback since the new formula.
INW Peach was on the Reformulation list?
Edit: I just looked and can find no mention of Peach but being on that list.
Assuming you are meaning pear, I can suggest two that I have been enjoying. I haven't tried inw pear so I don't have any reference to compare them, but fa pear and wfsc ripe pear are both fantastic flavors. TFA pear seems to also be useful as an additive to kind of add some extra peel style realism to the pear flavor imo.
Would anyone care to give me some pointers on making this recipe better? I am just going for a nice creamy vanilla custard style pudding base, with some big chunks of soft gingerbread cookie dipped in. From what I taste I feel like it's getting close to its final form, but it just seems like there is something missing or something is getting a bit muddled.

It looks like you could take out the CAP Sugar Cookie entirely, increase the LB Vanilla Ice Cream, and possibly increase the Gingerbread as well.
FA Condensed Milk - I know this is pure baby sick in any quantity but there's a small UK DIY community on POTV and one of the mixers swears by the stuff 1 drop per 10ml in custard/creamy vapes.
I got mine in and mixed up two batches of Fresh's snv custard (4% LB vanilla ice cream, 0.5% FLV vanilla pudding) and added a drop to one of them. The one with the condensed milk in is actually very nice, although probably still has too much CM in it because it's all I can taste. But there's NOT a hint of baby sick or mold in sight.
u/ID10-T is the only person I've read has it here, and it made the top 10 list of horrible flavours. Has anyone tried playing with this at low percentages, or maybe in a dilution like TFA Cinnamon Spice?
Edit: 1 drop came out at 0.2% in my 10ml sample.
What does the mixer swear it does to the custard/creamy vapes at 1 drop per 10ml? One drop came to 0.25% when I tried it in a 10ml sample and that sample was a bottle of revulsion. But, of course, some people are more sensitive to that kind of yuckiness than others.
He says it adds a depth to the overall creaminess of the vape. I've spoken to him now and the stronger taste I'm getting steeps out after a few days. Off the shake though it's definitely nowhere near revulsion, and I have a weird pallet with some flavours (0.5% tfa honeydew too strong, cheesecake graham crust over powers everything with crust etc)
Isn’t there a site where you can input all your flavors and it recommends a recipe for you? I may be totally imagining it,but I swear I saw something like that once and I can’t find it again. ETA: I don’t mean the weekly “suggest a recipe” thread.
You can do that on e-liquid-recipes.com. One of my favorite features on that site.
There are a bunch (about one in five) of flavors that ELR doesn't have. Most of the time, I adore that site, but then I hit a flavor that isn't listed and it drives me bonkers.
I'd really like to be able to submit flavor reviews/corrections/additions, or allow a fuzzy search option that would make reasonable substitutions.
That's a bummer to hear. It was pretty tedious when I set mine up because the names of some flavors may not exactly match what's on the bottle. My stash isn't massive, but i was able to find everything. You can take a look at my profile hope that might help.
TFA vanilla bean gelato - I'd love to hear some other people's thoughts on the best applications for this concentrate, what it's strengths and weakness' are, what it works best with ext. I have single flavor tested it a while ago but have since lost those notes somehow :( . I have also done some research on the concentrate but it seems like there are some conflicting opinions on it. It seems like there are lots of flavorings that do similar things to vanilla bean gelato, so I'm just trying to learn where it would be preferred over something like a vanilla ice cream or custard flavoring.
It's like vanilla bean ice cream but waxy instead of custardy. I haven't found a use for it outside of cream bases where diketones aren't an option. I don't think it would ever be my first choice for anything, but there are some recipes that use it including one I really liked, Yearning. I don't know why he mixed the Ice Cream and Gelato there, but if I had to guess I'd say he wanted more of that creamy vanilla but the deep rich custardy part of VBIC was too much for the lighter persimmon or it was too buttery.
Are there (or will there be) any Halloween sales going on right now that I could use to get some nicotine salt base? I'm ashamed to admit I lost the DIY spark a little while back, and I've been exclusively using a JUUL for about 3 months now.
I'm so tired of getting destroyed by the costs on the pods now though, it's like I went back to smoking or something. I'm ready to get back into DIY, but there is no need to pay full price if there are any kind of holiday sales going on right now.
There will be a post stickied on the front page but I haven’t seen any sales announced yet. Probably over the weekend.
So I like to mix my own juice however I recently found out about nic salts and vaping them in my suorin air is very nice. (I now only sub-ohm at home)

However since within the eu you can only buy 20mg/ml juice in 10ml bottles making high nicsalt (20mg/ml) in amount larged than 10 ml is not really possible. Does anyone know a nic-salt liquid maker that ships large quantities to the eu? more specifically the Netherlands?
liquid nicotine wholesalers.
They'll ship to the eu, but 48mg/ml seems to be the highest concentration they'll ship internationally. They may be willing to label it as something other than what it is, IIRC (someone ratted them out here over that, as I recall) or I may have mixed them up with another supplier. But they specifically list the netherlands as somewhere they'll ship to. maybe contact them?
You could try ebay, I've seen freebase and salts available there but only really looked at shipping to/from the UK.
Anyone had issues registering on inawera.com?

It keeps giving me DOB error. I've tried manually typing it and selecting from the pop up calendar but no luck.

Also - any recommendations for flavours whilst I'm making a direct order?

Edit - I'm in, even though the site says DOB should be DDMMYYYY I think it actually needs to be MMDDYYYY
So I was just about to mix some juice when I realised I think I have been making a huge mistake all along. I use Steam engine and I have left the "Nicotine strength in" option in Percentage instead of mg/ml.
My nic is at 54mg/ml and I want to mix at 3mg/ml. But I just noticed that all the time I have been mixing it in percentage mode so instead of 54mg/ml it's 54% and 3% instead of 3mg/ml.
Now to the question, how much difference does this make? I know I haven't vaped at 30mg since I started to mix myself and I belive it's impossible because for it to be 30mg the nic have to be at 540mg/ml. So have I been vaping almost 0mg nic the whole time?
Is it the same or am I just confused right now?
You should be safe. The errors should cancel out.
How do you mean with cancel out?
Ok, stay with me here...
to make 100ml of juice with 3% nic, using a 54% nic source you need ~5.6ml of source nicotine.
to make 100ml of juice with 3mg/ml nic, using 54mg/ml nic source, the juice will have 300mg of nicotine, meaning you need 300/54 ml, or ~5.6ml of source nic. As long as both units are the same for your nic source and your target nic concentration, you'll get the right result.
What are PG alternatives? I'm not completely allergic, just sensitive to it in too high an amount. I mix for my RDA at 80/20, but if I use/make juice for a pod system (60/40 or 50/50) I get an irritation in my chest that wakes me up at night coughing. I'd like to find something else that works without the coughing!
PDO or PEG
savapeur is the only place I've seen PDO lately, in the vaping world in this hemisphere.
Habitez-vous dans une région francophone?
I just went to savapeur and all the descriptions in french make them sound more delicious. I think it's because I associate french with eating yummy food...
Actually, there's a pocket of them not too far away. (The french were the original 'disposable laborers' prior to the Chinese, so when the original Canal was built...) I can usually read french well enough to get by, anyhow. (And honestly, I'd have expected savapeur to carry more solubarome flavors...)
Which are some good and strong TFA flavors for single flavor juice?
I found a local seller that has some TFA flavors (I can't order online because of strict import rules here, there's a big chance I will have to drive 4 hours to pick it up at the Customs office).
They are a bit expensive and only 10ml, so I would like some recommendations for strong flavors that will last me a long time, I don't want to have to use 20% to get flavor.
I am mostly interested in fruits (but open to any suggestions) to make single flavor juices or maybe mixing two, might add some menthol liquid or koolada (leaning more towards menthol because a few friends told me koolada can taste a bit like chemicals).
Any recommendations?
TFA Blackberry
Mix no higher than 1% - works best around 0.3-0.5%. 10ml will last a long time. Other flavours that work well mixed with other flavours in low concentrations would be:
TFA Brown Sugar
TFA Strawberry (not ripe)
TFA Marshmallow
TFA Dragonfruit
You might want to go to the Flavor review wiki and check out all the TFA reviews. The problem with TFA is they don't make strong flavors like some of the newer companies. You will find a recommended % on each flavor in the reviews. Good luck!
TFA Taro is stronger than most FLV flavors. TFA Cinnamon Spice is stronger than pretty much any other flavor. The problem with TFA is how wildly the strength of their flavors fluctuates. And some of the TFA flavor reviews are frkm a time when much more flavor was used.
