I made a strawberry fried ice cream but I'm using probably too many flavors. It tastes great, though.
7% FA Juicy Strawberry 1.5% FLV Mango 3% CAP Vanilla Custard 2% TFA French Vanilla Creme .25% FA Fresh Cream .5 FA Meringue 1% INW Biscuit 1% FW Yellow Cake 1.5% FA Joy .5% CAP Super Sweet
My first original recipe. I started DIY very recently to save money and only bought enough flavors to make 4 recipes. I know it has a ton of flavors but it tastes great after a week. Definitely looking forward to what the CAP Vanilla Custard will do in the next month. I'll give some flavor notes but again, I'm very inexperienced. Be as mean or helpful as you'd like.
The strawberry layer. - I decided to use FA Juicy Strawberry because it's the only strawberry I own. I went with 7% because I wanted it to be noticed but not too powerful. I figured the strawberry in the ice cream wouldn't be as present once its coated and fried. I added just a touch of FLV Mango to add a bright, tropical dimension to the strawberry without adding an additional fruit note. Juicy strawberry just tastes boring on it's own to me. I also have CAP Sweet Mango and plan on substituting FLV Mango with it next batch.
The corn flake coating - Despite not having a ton of flavors to work with, I do get an awesome fried corn flake taste from FW Yellow Cake, INW Biscuit and FA Joy. Most of my decision in what I'd use came down to a finger test and FA Joy tastes amazing to me. It's exactly like it's description. FW Yellow Cake and INW Biscuit add the corn flake taste. Maybe it simply tastes like cake batter and I just have the fried corn flake vibe in my head so that's what I get. It's very possible.
The ice cream. So it's a strawberry ice cream recipe but when I was thinking about how to execute it and make it taste good in a vape, I figured it would be better to make a vanilla ice cream and give the strawberry it's own space. Obviously there are ice cream flavorings out there but I don't own any. The TFA French Vanilla Creme and CAP Vanilla Custard are the vanilla cream of the ice cream. I tried those two with the percentages switched originally and this tastes better. The FA Fresh Cream and FA Meringue add the richness it needed to be considered ice cream and not vanilla milk. FA Fresh Cream could probably get bumped up to .5% or .75% but I've added 2% to a yogurt recipe and turned it into cheese so I use it very sparingly.
Not exactly criticism, but I just want you to know that people are going to criticize you for using sweetener because something in the recipe is already "sweet enough"
You might also catch some shit for FW Yellow Cake. JF Yellow Cake is also good, but I have a deep love for the OG FW Yellow Cake.
Don't listen to them. You're on the right track.
I'd suggest checking out RF Strawberry. You can get a nice strawberry flavor below 2%.
Other flavorings worth checking out:
- FA Custard
- TFA Graham Cracker (Clear)
- TFA Vanilla Swirl
- CAP Cereal 27
- TFA Crunchy Cereal
Thanks, I'll check those out. I got a couple strawberries in my next order, and other fruits. I'll cut the sweetener out. That's actually a really good point. As for yellow cake, I'll try some others so other people don't mind trying my mixes in the future. I appreciate the help.
You in the US?
You could get that recipe critiqued by 4 people that actually try it rather than look at it on paper if joining Mixers Club sounds interesting to you :)
I would dial back the strawberry to 2-3% and add another strawberry at 1-3%.
My favorite strawberry base is equal parts LA Strawberry and TFA Strawberry ripe. I use 2% of each.
Thanks, I'll give that a try.
No problems! The problem (for me atleast, people have different experiences especially considering strawberry) the problem isn't getting a strawberry taste, it's getting a strawberry taste that stays with you bottle after bottle and not just for the first 20ml.
With that thread title, it's like I was personally being paged, but... of those flavors, other than FA Fresh Cream (which is the only one I own) the only ones I'd even consider using would be CAP SS and maybe FA Joy (and that would be for making a beer flavor). FW Yellow Cake contains toxic ingredients (actual sugar, which is not safe to inhale after being heated to vaping temps).
Oh, and there's really not much point subbing CAP Sweet Mango for FLV Mango. Unless you're getting too much peach and not enough pinesol from the FLV, that is.
Yeah, I'm gonna go for some more popular flavors in my next order. I didn't learn about the garbage in FW yellow cake until after I bought it. I've found a couple alternatives to try. Is there a mango you'd recommend?
The flair is what's known as ironic.
The closest any mango comes to tolerable, from what I've heard, is VT Green Mango. It's supposed to be mostly Pinesol with not so much peach. (I hate peach almost as much as I hate strawberries and/or vanilla.)
If you actually like mango for some unknowable reason, ask /u/ID10-T for some of his favorites.
Need criticism? Wow, OK. You are doing it wrong. Do you feel better now?LOL
Kinda
No you aren’t, you’re just doing it your way
And I don't even have my own way yet. I'll probably hate it in a few months. I just wanted to start experimenting early and get good so I can eventually make a flavor if I get a craving or think of something nostalgic. I think the other lad was just having a bit of fun.
