Hey All,
I got a liter of 100mg smooth salts from Nic River and when making a batch today I noticed the bottle of salts has an unpleasant, burnt rubber type of smell. It's also tinted yellow, but I know that is normal. I've only used 48mg salts before so I don't know if this is just a property of the blend I got or if something is amiss and I should contract customer support.
Is this normal?
Thanks
I’ve heard other reports of getting batches smelling like this (edit: never from Nic River though) that tasted VERY unpleasant when vaped. Contact Nic River, they should make it right for you. Lots of people vouch for them, myself included, so you should get a good batch next time.
I received 60ml of 100mg smooth nic salts from nicotine river on Monday. It stayed at room temperature all day, then put in these 30ml bottles after I mixed a few recipies and put it in the fridge.
No smell, and no tint, but there's condensation because I just took it out of the fridge.

I also bought a liter of PurNic 100mg/ml freebase from Nic River and it has a taste like you're describing. I was already planning on emailing, I was going to see if I could steep off the taste first but two weeks later and the juice is still unvapeable. I'll email tomorrow since it sounds like this might be something really wrong. I guess I'm not the only one, I really thought this would go away since I've heard nothing but good things about what I purchased.
How are you storing this liter? It may be oxidizing which isnt necessarily bad but it does make it smell and taste slightly different. I would recommend dividing the liter into smaller amber bottles and freezing until you need them so there isn't as much air coming in contact with the nic. Otherwise it could be just how that company's nic salts smell, if it doesn't affect the liquid then it shouldnt be a big deal.
got the 1L in the mail yesterday and immediately threw it in the freezer. Took it out today to mix a 120ml test bottle and noticed the smell.
Off topic but will the nicotine not freeze?
It depends what the base is. A PG base will not freeze. I keep my 100mg salt in a PG base in the deep freeze where the temp is -18 C, and it stays a liquid. A VG base will kind of freeze. It won't become a block of ice, but it will get so thick that you can't pour it.
For either base when I want to mix, I just put the bottle in a bowl of hot tap water for a few minutes and give it a good shake before use, and its fine. It helps that I transfer mine to LDPE bottles after purchase and label them with a sharpie, so there isn't any paper label to get all soggy.
Can't say much other than the 100mg salts I ordered from nude nicotine didnt have this smell.
I ordered four different bottles of the different types from NN and couldn’t stand the burnt rubber aftertaste. Everything else I’ve ordered from NN has been top notch. The salts I ordered from Nic River were slightly caramel colored with no taste. I really wonder what goes on to cause this. Is it quality control? Shipment temperature? Subjective taste?
Hmm that's odd. I mean it was like last November/December when I ordered mine. I went back to freebase because I like the armor lock v2 and by feburary the salts were already oxidized and getting harsh. But yah have no clue.
