So I quit nicotine like about 2 weeks ago now (pretty happy about that and proud of myself) so I decided to whip up a new batch nic free. So I go to my favorite recipe, make it, and it tastes harsh as hell and/or chemically. Its the same recipe just without any nicotine. I've tried this with different recipes too.
It tasted just fine with the nicotine in it. When I switched it immediately tasted like shit so its not like anything went bad in that little bit of time. Its quite frustrating and I haven't heard of anyone else having this problem.
Any tips, ideas, or solutions would be wonderful. Thanks in advance.
Non nicotine is always cleaner tasting but never more harsh, somethings changed. What is the recipe anyways? The only thing I can think might add a chemical taste is new cotton, always purge a fresh coil a bunch before vaping. Not much else I can think of.

Those 3 without nicotine of course. The Cotton clouds recipe was disappointing btw but if you like sweet stuff the first recipe I linked, Fruity pebbles, is amazing.
I think you're right. It has to be my coils are defective or I didn't wick them properly. Its too shitty tasting for it just to be from a lack of nicotine. Unfortunately this is my last coil atm.
It shouldn't be - if anything it should be smoother, so something has changed. Steep time/mod/tank/cotton/vg&pg ratio/coil. I once DTL'd my MTL mix and that was pretty harsh lol.
Nicotine has a specific taste itself and if the taste lacks in your e-liquid you will recognize the flavoring much more and this is most of the time a single chemical that doesn´t produce the same taste as what it is supposed to be.
Its gotta be more than just lack of nicotine taste. I feel like its not even wicking as well without the nic or something. The taste sort of reminds me of when my coil is going bad. Harsh/chemically/less flavor. Maybe my VG is going bad and now I can notice it more? Maybe?
Just curious... what was your mix with nic, and without?
It's possible that you're using a higher VG mix now, if it isn't wicking properly... and if it isn't wicking properly, you could be scorching your wick, which would lead to taste issues.
What's your gear? We need to consider that possible explanation. Alternatively, it could be your subconscious responding to the lack of nicotine... as your body finds it less fulfilling, the brain translates that to tasting inferior.
Pico 25 ello tank hw coil 0.2 ohms. Samsung 30q. Juice, vg, pg and nic is from ecig express and the flavors are from both ecig express and bull city flavors I think.
I don't think it's a psychological thing actually. Pretty sure about that. I appreciate the response because that could be overlooked
I'm thinking it may have something to do with the lack of nicotine now affecting the curing of the juice. Normally nicotine adds PH offset that combines with the flavors and causes the steeping process. Without the nicotine that may take longer. Freebase is High PH (salt is Low PH) so the steeping effect is different. The steeping may take longer with no nicotine?
I did not know that about nicotine thanks Cosmic!...;)
Well, i can tell you my experience as a nic-free vaper.
When i started DIY, following the most famous recipes in this sub, i tried to follow the steeping times shown here, and it always tasted harsh / chemical / tasteless.
So i started following some tips i received in my vaping shop: Fruity / minty : 2 weeks step Contains Vanilla: 4 weeks steep Full of Vanilla, chocolates, etc : 6 weeks
And the recipes came togheter in an excelent way, full of flavour and without any problems anymore.
I started to believe that adding nic accelerates the steeping process, and if you are not doing it, try to leave the juice steep a little bit and tell us if you feel the difference

Thats interesting. I'll give that a try. I actually have some juice thats been chilling for a week. I'll try that.
But when I was using nic in my mixes I sometimes wouldn't even let it sit overnight and it was fine.
Maybe it helps break in the coil a bit faster too.
