How long are flavor concentrates good for?
submitted about 7 years ago by OGCheeseHead

I’m sure there’s some shelf life but I purchased about 40 different flavors from CAP and TFA about 6 months ago and have hardly opened any of them due to life and what not. Fixing to mix a stockpile of a few 1000mls and wondering if these flavors are ‘bad’.

Sure others here will be able to give a more definitive answer but I have used concentrates (tfa & inw) that were at least a year old and still enjoyed the outcome. As far as I'm aware concentrates don't really go bad, but as with anything they will become less potent over time and things like exposure to oxygen and heat will speed this process up.

Edit: but yeah I don't think you will notice much difference if any at all

I keep mine in a semi closed cabinet (out of sunlight and relatively cool), and have most for over 1.5 years. All are still good, so I’m guessing that (at least most of the aroma’s) are good for a good amount of time.

Until they aren’t.

DOW chemical states PG has a two year shelf life. I have some flavors that are older and seem fine. I refrigerate my flavors and nicotine while in storage.

My INW Cherry (not Cherries) can still kill bugs after three years. So, a long time if stored properly! :)

Care to elaborate on the bug killing? I appear to have an ant infestation in my garage for some reason.

Hey, friend. A mixture of dawn dish detergent and water in a spray bottle sprayed on ants will penetrate their exoskeleton and kill them. Also diatomaceous earth works well.

I’ve got my whole stash still from when I first got into DIY and bought way more than I needed. I think that was over 2 years ago? Stored in an end table with 3 drawers, the concentrates in bags depending on manufacturer. I haven’t noticed anything different than my FA bag one of the bottles had a leak so I’ve gotta wear a glove any time I grab an FA bottle because some labels are damp, others aren’t. The joys of living in a 1br Apt with a GF that’s really meant for 1 person space wise. Thankfully I’ll be buying my first house, and having my first kid, by March, so I will have a mixing station finally 😃

Congrats on the pregnancy. Be warned kids are fucking smart. My son knew how to operate my vape at 16 months old. Luckily it only cost me a burnt coil. He was just standing there listening to the juice burn as he held down the fire button.

Edit because I'm bad at spelling.

2 years+ at least for most of my flavors. Some of the odd ones have turned weird looking and I elected to throw them out even tho they still smelled fine. I don’t refrigerate, but do keep them in a cool dark place in proper (air tight) containers.

I had to throw away a huge lot of 10ml flavorings. They seemed to lose potency, and a few of them had really bad separation issues that didn't go away with shaking.

I just checked invoices and the oldest of the lot are about 3 years old.

Flavor's from my first purchase (mostly from INW) (4+ yrs ago), stored in a ziplock away from sunlight/air in a cabinet within the original shipped cardboard box, are to date still potent, smell and vape the same.
