Highlights from last week:
Some idiot--I mean, “Our ID10-T” had the best post about the “worst” flavors he has ever tried and while I wouldn’t argue that they are all terrible, the fact that they inspired such great descriptions, almost redeems them a little.
LecherousLumberjack entered the fray with his “Simple DIY Example and Price Breakdown” which is dead simple and well put together. Don’t forget to check out the other writeups and vote on which one makes it into the sidebar.
And over in the complaints department we have /u/ButteringToast complaining that ATF is slow AF and they’re not wrong. Apparently some old recipes don’t load at all, even.
Rounding out the top and keeping it Meta we have a couple questions: “What recipe sold you on DIY” from /u/FullerAwesom and “What is your ‘mixing style’?” from /u/isuamadog.
Lastly, I’d like to say farewell to /u/warefairsoda who posted 13 recipes last month and then disappeared after posting about Nicotyrine

The best thing about the "Worst Flavors I Have Ever Tried" opinion piece was all the comments! So much participation! Since it seemed to be a hit and also helped me vent, would anyone like to see more along these lines?
Like "Worst X Flavors I have ever tried" where X = a specific category of flavors (worst citrus flavors? worst cereal flavors?) or a brand (worst FA flavors? worst FLV flavors)?
"Flavors that should never have been formulated, let alone released for sale" I'd put every vanilla ever on that list...
I would pay good money for a list of the 10 worst vanilla flavors (with reasonably detailed descriptions) written by you after you vape about 30 of them to decide which ones are the worst.
Why limit it to just "The Worst"? I think the best part of it was that everyone has a different answer. Most of the stuff posted here is looking for the singular "correct answer". But doesn't a little variety make it more fun? Should we have a weekly thread (how about "Sunday Social"?) where a question is posed and everyone can post their unique opinion? Along with all of the "worst" suggestions already posted, here's a few ideas . . .
-
What flavor do you love to eat but hate to vape?
-
If you were going to be stationed on Moon Base Alpha for a year and could only bring 5 flavor concentrates with you - which would you take? (assuming an endless supply of VG/PG/nic)
-
What recipe do you mix for friends/family that you can't stand?
-
Which two flavors would you NEVER combine in the same recipe? (has anyone ever mixed Chocolate covered Dill Pickle? grin)
-
What was the worst mistake you ever made - but vaped it anyway?
I like these ideas. And nothing is stopping anyone from taking them and running with them at any time. We have these kinds of questions all the time but it's even better when the poster gives their own opinions in a fun read and invites others to do to the same. I just had fun writing my own "worst" list and reading all the responses to that, and wanted to gauge whether there was any interest in seeing pretty much the same thing, only more specific, or whether we've all gotten that whole "worst" thing out of our collective systems and it's time to move on to posting something completely different like one of these epic posts:
What do you think outer space tastes like?
The 5 Personality Types of DIY Mixers
Hmmmm.... That last one could use an update. "What does your Myers–Briggs Type Indicator results say about your mixing methodology?" maybe? Not as much fun as a gross-out thread about nasty flavors but could still be interesting.
> Which two flavors would you NEVER combine in the same recipe?
A fruit and a cream.
TFA Cat Piss and anything.
TFA Foot Cheese and anything.
Any peach/mango/nectarine/mangosteen/etc and anything.
FLV Mushroom Crunch and anything.
Any strawberry and anything.
> What flavor do you love to eat but hate to vape?
If that changes to "What flavor do you most like to eat but hate to vape?" I gotta go with cheesecake. Specifically Ameretto chocolate chip cheesecake, as that is definitively and objectively the greatest cheesecake ever. However, like all solid foods, totally unvapeable for me.
I think there is a serious demand for any of your comprehensive posts; you have such an engaging and entertaining style. For recommendations on your “worst flavor” adventure, I think choosing from a company would be easier and allow for more variety. I would love to read about your worst Flavorah concentrates, as I know you have some strong feelings towards some of them.
Yes!
Shouldn't have made that a Yes/No question. What I'm asking is, what sort of worst list would you like to see next?
Personally, I'd really like to see someone else's 10 worst overall. Let's all put all those bad flavors on blast! But I'll gladly write another of my own if you want.
Just out of curiosity, who came up with the ever-so-disturbing flair I now have?
Probably a silly question: when mixing should I use the specific gravity of water or PG in regard to flavors?
I've only recently acquired FA Forest Fruit and have so far only mixed it with FW Blueberry (along with a little TFA Marshmallow, WS-23, and CAP Super Sweet). This turned out to be reasonably pleasing. I'm about to embark on a (probably lengthy) campaign of trial and error mixing FA Forest Fruit with various other fruits. I'll be mixing it next with Blackberry, and then Boysenberry.
So to the questions. Are you a fan of FA Forest Fruit, and if so, what do you like mixing it with? Have you found something that it partners surprisingly well with? Does it feature in an ADV of yours?
For straight Forest Fruit I like to add .5% Lemon Sicily and I like this the best out of all the simple Forest Fruit mixes.
I also enjoy Forest Fruit + %1.5 FA Black Currant + 1.5% FLV Boysenberry.
https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/17882 This one is great from /u/ediblemalfunction
I've found any sort of berry works with Forest Fruit, but I like the the lemon one at the top the most. The more flavors you add the more it takes away from the Forest Fruit goodness. I get a slight saltiness from that flavor that I really enjoy and I like to preserve that.
I love FA Forest Fruit.
Lemon. It goes especially well with lemon. EdibleMalfunction's Backwoods Lemonade is beloved by many, you should try that. I'm not personally that big a fan of the LA/FA Sicily lemonade base so I've been vaping something pretty similar to this Blackberry Lemonade and absolutely loving it.
Forest Fruit also partners very well with other berries, CAP Golden Pineapple/INW Pineapple, FA Apricot, and creams.
I'm glad you asked this question because searching for Cheeba's Berry Creamy to link for you caused me to find and add this Very Berry Creamy recipe to my to-mix list... I think it looks delicious.
Cheers ID10-T. Well every experiment so far with Forest Fruit has been very vapeable indeed. Favourite so far is FA Forest Fruit with FW Blackberry, TFA Blackberry, VT Fizzy Sherbet, a little splash of LA Lemonade, lots of WS-23 and a little sweetener. This one needed 2-3 days to steep. The lemon-ness in the Sherbet and LA Lemonade fades away to just leave a bright and juicy blackberry/darkberry vape.
Is there a subreddit or place that you guys have sold your DIY supplies? I quit vaping and have a bunch of flavors/vg/pg that I'd hate to see go to waste.
Some have done it here. But realistically, unless you sell it locally, there's no point in selling VG or PG... the shipping makes it not worthwhile.
That makes sense, thank you! Is it okay to sell it here? If so, where would the post be welcome (in a weekly thread, own post, etc.)? Thanks!
With vaperstek sale the other day I'll always pick up a few MB flavors as they're hard to get. I got Mexican Cactus and Funky Pineapple (Pink Lady missed the cut again) because both of them will be fun to play around with. Anybody have any experience with them? I'll post flavor notes.
Mexican Cactus - This will be fun to play around with especially subbing this for INW. Prickly Pear is first up naturally.
Here are basically the only MB flavor notes out there which is crazy but I'll copy paste the flavor notes:
- Mexican Cactus - 7% & 10% - 18 & 25 drops @ 5ml - [IMG]
Flavoring aroma in bottle - Beautiful aloe-like cactus scent similar to a light floral pear. E-liquid aroma in bottle (aged) - Light aloe-cactus-like notes, no floral or pear notes
Aged E-liquid Color - Crystal clear
Decent flavor level at 7%, it's on the light side, but not too light that you'd have to add more in order to fell it's fully flavored. This is a very interesting flavor, I'd imagine that fruit and floral lovers both would enjoy cactus type flavors. I get a flavor similar to very light pear mixed with a lightly floral aloe. This one is lighter on the floral aspect than other cactus type flavors I've tried, and also less sweet overall, and it's very smooth too. I find it's very hard to describe cactus vapes and I've had a few to compare in my mind and am still left struggling to find words to describe the flavor. If you enjoy fruits or floral type vapes, then I highly suggest you try out a few cactus flavorings, I'm sure you'll be surprised and find them enjoyable. I think this would be a great multi-fruit mixer, and would go well in tropical drink vapes too!
Recommended mix - 7-10%
Overall Rating - 8.5/10 - Cactus is great, I highly suggest trying a bottle in your next order!
-
Rin did a video (2015) on Cactus and said it was her first cactus and it pairs well with apple/pear and almost nails what we know of INW cactus and what an enhancer it is.
-
Funky Pineapple - (3mg @ 50/50 @ Chemnovatic Base) / 8% - 40 drops @ 10ml - [IMG]
Flavoring aroma in bottle - Pineapple explosion, full of pineapple juice, tons of wedges and tidbits, finished with a funky depth that's not easily described (You'll have to taste)
E-liquid aroma in bottle - Pineapple juice, heavy sweetness with a funky tart finish
Look out Hangsen and Inawera Shisha Pineapples, there's a new contender entering the ring, and I feel it's going to be an easy KO this round!!! Right from the get-go this is a super fresh and stout pineapple, mixed with a heavy dose of sweet pineapple juice, and finally finished off with a blast of funk that makes me think this must be what it's like to breath in a huge stockroom of pineapples in varying stages of ripeness. Unlike many other pineapples I've tried in the past, Molinberry Funky Pineapple's flavor does NOT fade away! Insanely impressive flavor that lasts and lasts, this flavor is hands-down a huge win for any fan of pineapple!
Recommended mix - 5-10% light/very strong - I'm sure this this would mix nicely with many flavors, multi-fruit mixes, creams, drinks, etc and possibly even with menthol. It's great by itself too, love this! Extended steeping is not required for this flavor, but a few weeks will round it out some, it's good right after the first shake so no need to wait!
Overall Rating - 9.5/10 - Bam!! This will be your new favorite pineapple, and it's got plenty of funk! As soon as I took my first vape I instantly knew that I'll be ordering the big 100ml as soon as possible!! It's such a real and fresh representation of pineapple, either lightly flavored or mixed strong I'm highly impressed! I'd give it a 12 out of 10 if the overall flavor concentration was higher!
Hey all,
Just got supplies to start doing this yesterday and mixed up a batch. It has zero flavor. I used a recipe I found that had a ton of good reviews(like 800 or something), and tweaked it to have a higher nicotine content. I feel like it's probably just me, and I'm wondering if this could be because I'm probably used to using liquids that have a ton of sweeteners where this had zero. (While I was getting ready to type the recipe details in I realized that I didn't update the nicotine content of the base I used, so that is off for sure)
The recipe I used was:

|Nicotine base 100mg 100% PG|1.6ml| |:-|:-| |VG|13.2ml| |Bavarian Cream (TPA)|0.8ml| |Cheesecake (Graham Crust) (TPA)|1ml| |Strawberry (Ripe) (TPA)|2ml| |Sweet Cream (TPA)|0.8ml| |Vanilla Custard (TPA)|0.6ml|

The nicotine I used is actually 48mg/ml, so that is lower than I wanted.
It brings the flavor percentage to 26%.

I has zero flavor. I'm not having a sensory issue, if I put other juice in I can taste it just fine.
Do you think it has to do with having no sweetener?

Edit: Forgot to include, I'm using dual coil at .49ohm at 80w.
Maybe you can't taste strawberry , yeah its a thing , maybe try Inawera Shisha strawberry.
Oh , just seen the flavor % that's way to much flavor. Probably muting itself.
What is typically a good percentage to stay under to avoid this?
It's really quite challenging to do the math in one's head to convert those numbers to percentages, which is the norm... But looking at it, you're lucky you can't taste the TFA Sweat Cream (more cheesy than sweaty, but...) and some of those others have some pretty bad tastes, like vanilla or strawberry, but... I think you've probably got so much EM in there (TFA uses it in several flavors, strawberry ripe has a bunch) that it's muting the whole thing.
Messing around with some new flavors I got in recently. This is my second rendition of this recipe idea and Im enjoying it quite a bit. I am about to do a v3 just to see if I can make it any better, and wanted to see if anyone here had any thoughts or ideas. i am just going for a nice vanilla custard with a darker kind of a cream note and some spice.
Holy Spice Custard
-
Custard (INAWERA) 2.00%
-
Eggnog (Flavorah) 1.50%
-
Graham Cracker (Clear) (TPA) 2.00%
-
Holy Vanilla (DIYFS) 1.50%
-
Irish Cream (TPA) 4.00%
-
Sweetener (Sucralose) (FW) - 1.00%
Total flavor: 12%
>darker kind of a cream note and some spice
You could try FLV Milk n Honey, or CAP Horchata, INW Creme Brulee, or a little anise or cinnamon.
Why steeping time that advertised by author of the recipe is always to short?

Pretty much everything that supposed to steep one week is much beater after two weeks, every two day recipe is much beater after a week etc.
It’s subjective. A lot of times it’s just the minimum recommended steep and people will often say something like “but it gets even better after 6 months” and other times that is just where the creator thinks it gets good enough to call it ready.
I have a little problem. Made juice for the first time lemon pie. After I steeped it the lemon taste was overwhelming no pie at all. I added some sweetener oké a lot of sweetener. The taste is better now but it's not creamy at all. What can I add for extra creaminess?
You shouldn't really be adding anything. Usually doesn't work out when you mix like that. What's the recipe?
I bought tobacco concentrates for the first time, after years of non-stop fruits and desserts- I’m anticipating a learning curve. I’ve gone ahead and mixed up a bunch of sf testers, but I also threw together a recipe because I’m such a daring and fun-loving guy.
Anyway, how bad did I screw this up:
- (FLV) Red Burley @ 2%
- (FLV) Tatanka @ 1%
- (CAP) Sugar Cookie @ 2%
- (FW) Butterscotch Ripple @ 4%
Right off the shake all I can taste is the Red Burley; I suspect the atf community avg of 2% might be flat out insane. Do these percentages look crazy? I’m assuming this will need to stew for a week or two? Any flavor recommendations based on the recipe above?
Thanky
I’ll mix that up later tonight and I’ll probably only be able to taste the butterscotch. I don’t think 2% is insane, but it’s a bit higher than I usually mix it at. I’m more in the .75-1.5% range with it usually. If it doesn’t settle down in a week or so then maybe try it again closer to .75%.
Thanks! I’ll try er again in a week. You really think butterscotch ripple is that overpowering??? It’s by far the weakest butterscotch I’ve used yet.
2% FLV Red Burley probably assumes steeping for a month. FLV tobaccos need to be used at double strength when steeping them... and very few other tobaccos are SnV capable, so if you mix tobaccos you need the double strength percentages.
Tl;dr- steep that recipe a month and see how the tobacco is then. I'd never use either of your other ingredients, so not sure about them.
That’s just obscene. I mean, who knows if I’ll even be around another month?!
Also- Sugar Cookie and Bripple are delicious, reprobate.
The name of butterscotch ripple scares me... it makes me think of the horrid icecream flavor "butterscotch ripple" which is a vanilla ice cream with not nearly enough butterscotch to cover up the fact that it's vanilla. And sugar cookie... I don't like those even IRL. There's good cookies, and then there's bleh boring cookies with no good flavor, like sugar cookies. But even if a good cookie flavor like peanut butter with chocolate chips was turned into a vape flavor, I wouldn't be vaping it. Solid food flavors just don't work for me.
Any recommendations for a Good Grape flavor... Been mixing for awhile and the only grape I had, I can't even remember... It was ok...But I want great /good, candy grape flavor..(requested by my gs)Combinations grapes would be welcomed too... Tia😊
For straight up purple flavor, INW Grapes.
