Expectations of "premium" juice after 6 mo of DIY
submitted about 7 years ago by memnochrex

Backstory: Charlie's Chalk Dust Wonder Worm. Candy Kings Batch. Vapetasia Killer Kustard Lemon. Those were my jams. My go to's. My ADV.

Had to go pick up the missus some eGo AIO coils. Decided " what the hey, I'll pick up some lemon killer Kustard while I'm here."

Was expecting that mouth watering, chase the dragon, drain 100 mls in 2 days reaction.

First reaction was " huh. I'VE made better than this. " Still good. Still love it. But like how you loved your first girlfriend love. How you loved your first dog love. I got fond memories of them but I ain't digging them up to get one last kiss.

This started off about two weeks ago when I tried some of The One by Beard. Damn. That stuff was straight fire! I been jonesing ever since for some straight up Super Sweet it seems like!

Well, I scratched that itch and while I paid 19.99 for a 100ml, I think I'll stick to my own mixes- at least for the time being :)

I'm glad you're not digging your first dog up for a kiss. What's your favorite custard recipe?

I like the Killer Kustard clone by Wayne. I use v1 instead of v2 though. 5% CAP vanilla custard v1 4% CAP French vanilla 1% sweetener ( I use CAP super sweet ).

I'll also mix up some cap vanilla custard with lorann banana cream or inw banana, throw a little cream in there. That's bangin as well.

There is a believe, that custards are beater with EM instead of SS. I hear people say that here and there, but there is no original source on that.

As for my favorite sweetener, I prefer INW marzipan, however it will not sweeten your juice by that much (1% is max for this puppy btw) and it requires at least 1 week to fully steep.

I’ve been trying to diy ejuice for like a year and can’t get a flavor I like more than my favorite premiums. I just suck at it or something, everything I make isn’t quite good enough for my liking. I have tried every single clone recipe for the one and can’t even come close to its succelence!

Add 4% CAP SS.

I'm not a clone guy. But I've always wondered when I see a recipe why they don't have that included in the list of ingredients (should be at the top).

Typically, DIYers prefer recipes that won't kill coils, and aren't sickeningly sweet. And there's some inherent belief that people will, in mixing their own, wean themselves off sweetener. And there's the unwritten rule that "all recipes include sweetener to taste"

In a true aspect of a clone and attempting to go after that "Like the premium juice", those sweet recipes have 3-6% sweetener. Coil Killers, clog ducts or etc. Even adding different variety of sweetners in the same mix or overabundance of additives, like EM, Sour, Sweetener, MTS, and this and that. "Premium Juice", just a label, Super Sweet/your preference is the "secret formula" just like Michael Jordan had in Space Jam.

Want it to taste like store juice, add 4% sugar, and it'll turn into one of those "These babies can hold so much premium" meme's of the car salesman meme lmao

Are you using sweeteners? I already liked my nude/capella/grocery-VG mixes but when I found out about Capella's "Super Sweet" it really brought-out the flavor- the succulence so to speak - of the mixes I was making, am using it at around 3.5 drops/30mL of juice and love it!! If you're using solid nico&flavorings but aren't sweetening and finding a lack of succulence this could be a simple (and cheap- stuff is VERY cheap, basically free lol, a $2-3 bottle has lasted me many many months and still not finished!) solution for you!

If you're using a sweetener, I'd be curious about the quality of your nicotine, if you've got nicotine giving bitterness and/or flavors then it'll be hard to mask that in any case and swapping to something better (Nude is my go-to, just their generic "nicotine concentrate 100mg/mL) would make a big difference :)

Not all clones will be spot on.

Try some other clones.

It really is hard to go back once you start. Not just the cost, but as you stated the flavors.

My girlfriend and I loved the Zampleboxes when we still ordered our eJuice. After starting DIY, out first Zamplebox had a Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream in it. She loves mint flavors, so I've made a lot of them for us. Ours is so much better than the premium eJuice they sent us, we both struggled to finish our tanks of it. It was in that moment I felt accomplished, and we promptly cancelled our Zamplebox. Only been DIY for maybe two months? It's so easy with all the recipes and help online, can't ever go back to those name brands.

And there is no damn way anything but a tiny “artisan” (read $$$$) shop is sending you stuff not oversteeped or way under (with a fancy card!).

I don't like candy flavors or things overly sweet in general so it took me awhile to find my niche which is bakery and cereals. Among the most satisfying is the milkyos clone, the cookies and cream base puts most custards and creams to shame IMO.

Kings cream was my premium juice that I perfected. Recipes call for bubblegum tfa are false flag clones as it's actually just a custard with Loran watermelon. The creator of DSV lives in a town not far from my city and word got out that it was his first recipe and that he got all the engredients from a cupcake store selling only Loranns and Wilson's flavorings. Loranns is well known but Wilson's is pretty small time and they only sell a custard and a cream cheese, and after trying the custard I found it to be the missing authentic piece. I've since concluded that most of the best flavors are two or three flavors tops, overspeculation is ripe in the DIY community.

I think you’re spot on about that 2-3 flavors thing.. also, what’s this custard and watermelon? Can u share that plz?

Lorann watermelon at 12% with pretty much any custard around 1-3% to your own taste but wilsons custard at 2% is about as close as you can come. many clones call for TFAs vanilla swirl and you can get away with that as wilsons custard isn't as true to custard profiles as say TFA or CAP. The Clear watermelon isn't as authentic tasting, but the difference is negligible. The dye in the red LA watermelon clogs coils so you absolutely have to change coils daily so the clear is actually better. Its probably the juiciest ejuice ive ever had, Its not like an artificial gummy watermelon or a jolly rancher or anything like that, LA watermelon is very removed from typical watermelon juice to be honest. It doesn't exactly have the fresh bite that the water in an actual watermelon provides but its close and its not exactly a candy profile either. Its one of those things that's just hard to explain.

LA should have non-dyed versions of all their flavors. Legit DIY ejuice sites should pretty much carry only the colorless versions.

I was never able to make a flavour I really liked, 100% diy. What I found that works is starting with a juice I like, then modifying it so I like it even more.

This so much. I've been diy only for a couple years now. My craving for premium juice stopped when I found and tweaked a clone of Hobbes blood.

I tossed the candy king batch 100 ml I got, it was pretty harsh to me and not super saturated. If you really liked it though, I think DIYorDIE made a remix if it.

Diyordie had a sour worm that I tried. Wasn't quite right. Have not reevaluated and tweaked though to be fair.

Sour is a fairy tale for mixing

1 points

by memnochrexabout 7 years ago

What's that mean? As in the Sour recipe? Or the additive sour?

Fairy tale as in no one has nailed it Perfecto?

I had tried Candy King Sour Patch last year and it was really harsh to me as well, didn't really like it.

Did you ever find a decent Wonder Worm clone? Been after one for 2 years now.

by memnochrexabout 7 years ago

Hell no! Still looking too? It's evading me. I asked in the clone requests thread before and the only answer I got was " a shitload of sweetener".

Still looking too yes. :(

Been DIY a few years now. When I first started buying “premium” Unicorn Milk was my jam. Sooooo good. Sweet sweet strawberry milk. They had a sale so I bought 3 30mls last year, nothing like what I tasted when I originally loved it (and both versions were after they got rid of whatever they put in it to give it that “milky color” look). I couldn’t even finish them all.

Same with pretty much all other premiums I loved from back in the day, I can’t finish it. Got lazy at the end of last year and had a subscription to Craft Vapery getting 3-4 30mls a month. I would try a flavor and after a tank of two I would switch back to my remaining DIY that was steeped.

Cancelled and won’t ever go back to premium. I believe the premiums I loved at first was because I wasn’t used to Super Sweet / other sweeteners coming from cigs, to house juice (prob single flavor FW mixes), to premium , I had never tasted something so good.

I never add sweetener to anything even if it calls for it to “pull it together”, the flavorings are sweet enough for me, and I can TASTE all the flavors and not just vague flavors muted by sweeteners.

Hell yeah! Same here, though I'd never buy the "super premium!!1" stuff myself I did get store-premiums and had also been trying friends' "super premium omg!!" expensive stuff before starting DIY, since starting DIY I couldn't fathom going back, I mean the $ difference would make me accept lower-quality but I 100% prefer my own mixes to anything someone else has prepared no matter how 'premium' it was (it's funny because I find this in many things that I'm particular about, like food- it is a VERY rare occurrence where I'm satisfied with food at a restaurant, would almost-always prefer to prepare it myself!!)

/gotta say your post made me feel old, I thought 'fire' was an expression of potency, not flavor/color/etc!

Adding sweetener is the “Premium Secret”. My buddy and I have been DIY for 2 years, and our running joke when we perfect a recipe is “That would be premium with 4 percent Super Sweet”. I buy 4 bottles a year for the wife because I have tried cloning Grumpy Old Bastard for a year and according to her, can’t get it right. :)
