I'm looking to start mixing but i have some doubts when selecting my first flavorings.
submitted about 7 years ago by VikingCrab1

All the "beginner lists" of flavorings have a large amount of flavors for dessert-*ish* juices but the problem is that i really don't like dessert juices like at all, I pretty much exclusively vape on fruity/berry and candy flavours. Does anybody have a good list or some tips when choosing my flavours? I'm going to follow recipes (at least to start out) and there is just an overwhelming amount of concentrates used in them, i'm looking to spend maybe 80USD and i have access to FA, CAP and TFA.

This is a solid list. I might add FA Meringue and TFA Vanilla Swirl. They can add quite a bit without making something too desserty.

Go recipe hunting. Pick out a couple that sound good, try to pick recipes that have common ingredients, and go from there. Best advice I can come up with

For sure that’s the „best“ way. You will have some liquid ready for vaping and tested out by others. If you buy flavors „blindfolded“ you will quickly get frustrated because there is always something missing for a nice and balanced recipe. You start to improvise and most of the time it will ruin the whole stuff!

There's a way to work around the overwhelming number of concentrates. Search for recipes on ELR and use this trick from their Help Guide . . .

At the moment there is no direct way to do it, but you can actually find recipes with a specific amount of flavors. To find recipes you can make that has exactly 3 flavors you can add the parameter "fcount" to the URL: http://e-liquid-recipes.com/whatcanimake?fcount=3.

It also works with the normal search. Here I search for "coffee", and have added "fcount" to the URL: http://e-liquid-recipes.com/list?q=coffee&fcount=3.

If you go the "Search by flavor stash", adding "fcount" also works.

If you use sorting or pagination while using "fcount", then you must add "fcount" again.

Yeah when I first started I had the damndest time. I ordered all the flavors that everyone said that I must have and 90 percent of them are sitting in a box probably expired and I wasted a lot of $$$ getting all these flavors. Best thing to do is get as many as you can and just get 10 ml bottles of everything to start. Figure out what you like and then order the bigger bottles. Fruit flavors are easy and mostly shake and vape. Then figure out what creams you like (it ended up for me that I couldn’t handle diketones and I had to get all V2, which I wouldn’t at first cause everyone said tasted like garbage don’t waste your time). What I learned quickly is everyone’s tastes are soooooo different. So you just gotta find what works for you.

Liquid Barn has some great flavors. Their blue raspberry and strawberry lemonade are great. I bought their starter kit for >$100 that came with a handful of flavors that you get to pick.

Pick your favorite favors and get versions of that flavor from multiple companies. Many people like pastries and custards but I vape almost-exclusively sweet candy fruit blends.

Potency is also important. FA is much more potent than CAP which is a little more potent than TFA.

Better to buy more flavors in smaller sizes than to wind up with big bottles of flavors that are mediocre-tasting to you. It also allows for a lot more playing around until you find your perfect blend.

Get a couple of flavor-enhancers as well. INW Cactus is useful in almost every fruit mix. A couple different creams and possibly marshmallow are also very handy to use as light notes to round out a mix.

Possibly most importantly--too much flavoring in a juice will cause it to taste muted and/or bitter. Start with small percentages, you can always add more later.

Have fun!

You have to give more info man. You have to at least list a few commercial juices and their profiles in order for anyone to know what to recommend to you.

It would be pointless for anyone to list anything for you without that information.

Candy is a fairly large range of different recipes.

I can say that you will need Ethyl Maltol and Sucralose depending on which you like the most or if you like both. Usually Ethyl Maltol with Candies.

Then you need to get both PG and VG unless you know which you like best already,

Other than that, we don't know if you like any types of creams or any types of back-end candy flavors/tastes like gummy bear or taffy.

Other than that, single flavor mixes would be the thing to start with. Which is fairly easy if you sort by best selling on the websites.

Best bit of advice someone gave me, is to first, head on over to elr or atf and pick a couple of ADV recipes. Then buy accordingly, that way you know the flavors you're buying and have less duds.

OP - generally speaking, if you can find recipes (note - use alltheflavors.com to search, there aren't as many bad recipes to wade through there) that appeal to you, buy the flavors needed to mix them. If you can't find recipes that appeal to you, PM me for advice on the alternative approach.

Just use flavors that you think would go together. Also anything(mostly fruity though) can be way more refreshing with a bit of menthol in it. And for a final tip when trying a new recipe make a small batch first to see if you like it before you make something like a 30 ml bottle

That's actually kinda bad advice. "Hey, how about strawberries and cream - who doesn't like that. Hmmmm...Inawera Wild Strawberry - sounds delish annnnnnnnnd FA Fresh Cream - those Italians know their cream!"

No amount of mixing will make that combo taste good, taste like anything other than bathroom air freshener. Newbies need a little more direction than that.

Avoid elr. Use atf. It’s worth the 10 bucks a year. Just make the most popular recipes.

What is elr and atf?

E liquid recipes.com is free but chock full of lousy recipes All the flavors.com is paid but has a much smaller set of kick ass recipes

FLV Mango + LB Vanilla Ice Cream is my goto easy adv atm. I add other flavours too it too blend and fill it out but I really like using these 2 in a lot of my recipes. If someone was too ask me on 2 flavours that they should have from day 1 then these 2 would be at the top of my list.
