I sometimes do. I'm into NET's thanks to the good folks on this sub, easy to make and taste great. I haven't done the math, but a wild ass guess is probably 10 cents a ML. I'm still tempted by Black Note, but it's not 10 times better than my DIY and I can't justify spending $1 for a ML.
I do, when my favorite vendors have sales going on.
I know I can whip up a 120 of Prickly Victory for $3, but getting an occasional 60 of Purple Powder for $4 or a 120 of Divine Pebbles for $7 or a 120 of Convicted Melons for $13 isn't a big deal. Adirondack is one of my favorite vendors, but I agree, I find it hard spending 6x as much money (even when on sale) on their juice as my own.
But but but......just kidding. Can’t blame you for that at all. If I didn’t have a business selling juice I would obviously be making my own as well side by side with you all in here. Luckily for me Cascade is my daily juice so it works out well as I have no need to buy other companies.
Wow! I never expected to see you in here!
Don't worry, though, I currently have about 600mL of tasty Adirondack on my juice shelf and am vaping on some Forty-Niner right now. I can't resist those mystery boxes you guys do.
I’m everywhere. But in reality I still have my passion for creating and love to see what new innovations some of you guys dream up in here. The worst part about being a business is I’m limited by how many different flavors I will sell etc, but yet my passion to come up with new recipes and try new things is as alive as ever. So I like to pop in and be around like minded people if only just to lurk.
Those mystery boxes catch a lot of people :p. But there’s a reason we o my do them twice a year.
Hi. Placid is one of the few juices I never tried and occasionally consider trying but then I see all kinds of clones. Always makes me wonder if you ever actually mix up a clone of your own juice? I imagine you can sort of know how it might taste by looking at it, but I’m curious if you’ve ever actually mixed up a batch.
Hi /u/isuamadog Years ago I used to make them up, just to get a feel for what the different creators were envisioning Placid to be like on their own personal level. Some were great, some not so much. I havent mixed any up in a while , primarily because there are just so many clones of it. I personally love when people try to clone my recipes. For one its flattering, and secondly I am all about creativity. What people may tweak in their recipe, or when they add a new element to it so on and so forth, its awesome to see. To know one of my recipes has gone on to inspire other mixers, its humbling.
I have only ever come across one Placid clone that was almost spot on, it was still off by a bit (missing one flavor), but extremely close. I remember it being pretty obscure and I came across it at least two years ago, but it surprised me.
Can you point me to an NET guide you've found to be particularly helpful?
Edit: in response to your question, the only e liquidI buy are from Red Vape who make amazing NETs from exotic tobacco such as Shade and Perique
Ahh yes, I've bought from him, good stuff! As for how I learned, /u/ChemicalBurnVictim gets most of the credit for that! I haven't had to make a NET for nearly a year as I way, way overdid it at the start, but here's the basics from memory.
-
Buy some tobacco you'll think you will like. Local pipes shops will have what you need, but be aware they are probably overpriced and once you find something you enjoy you can go online much cheaper. Dunhill Nightcap is my leaf of choice.
-
Buy an AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker (Amazon $30)
-
Pick up some 1.5 micron filters Ahlstrom 6100-0750 Qualitative Filter Paper, 7.5cm Diameter, 1.5 Micron, Slow Flow, Grade 610 (Pack of 100) (also Amazon $15).
-
Finally, buy some mason jars with lids.
Here's the process
-
Put ~ 1oz of tobacco in the jar, cover with PG until it's completely covered.
-
Store in a cool, dark place for 30+ days (I did 30 and my results were fine, not sure if longer would be better).
-
After 30 days, filter the contents using coffee filter that came with your aeropress.
-
Filter again through the aeropress using the 1.5 micron filter. This process can take a long time; I set it up in a large bucket, with a 10lb weight on top of the press, and periodically gave it a lil' push.
-
At this point, you have your NET. Mix to preference, generally 5-10% flavor for your mix if you are just going with NET + pg/vg/nic.
That's it! Again, it was my first attempt and it turned out great. I still have 5 mason jars FULL of different NET's that are just sitting in my cupboard. This was from a $75 initial investment in tobacco, so honestly that's probably enough for 3+ years unless they somehow to 'bad' after filtered.
Best of luck!
/u/axxegrinder gave you the gist of the process. Tobaccos you could check out LeafOnly for some whole leaf tobaccos. That’ll be your best bet for the cigar wrapper and fillers unless you just buy some cigars and chop them up and steep them in your PG. SmokingPipes has a good selection of Pipe tobaccos and cigars. If you want a delicious Burley, Solani Aged Burley Flake makes a great NET. I’ve got some in the crock pot right now :)
No, because literally no one does just cherry flavour. It's always some multi-berry bullshit that tastes like soap or like a spoonful of pure sugar.
My attempts at a "pure" cherry juice still tastes dry and weird but at least it's only cherry.
Agreed. I find that cherry & raspberry are hard to balance without being harsh or too floral.
I bought Bobas Bounty when it came back just because I had never tried it before. Other than that I always get tempted to try something, but the prices just won’t let me hit that order button.
Speaking of NETs, the future of Dunhill is kind of up in the air, so Nightcap might not be available for too much longer. In case you think you’ll ever run out.
I bought a 100ml of the old stuff (12mg) and then got alerts of when it came back.
damn, that was such a good day.
--edit-- that was until the community started getting paranoid and starting killing it "what if its not the real stuff?" "what if they are pranking us, is it april 1st already?"
..it was awesome
Can’t do this anymore (i am very greedy!)
Juice here in Nippon start at 20$ for 30 ml. and goes up to 80$ for 60 ml Juice without any Nicotine inside. (Japan made “Syrup”)
Each Parcel from the Continent comes with a min. 25$ postal Fee for max. 120 ml of Juice.
(120 ml is our maximal allowed Juice/ Shipment, so i spend ca. 100$ for (of?) postal Fee alone each Month before)
I did today, I went in to grab some cleito coils for my fiancé and they were running a sale 2/$15 on some lychee/blueberry/green tea and a white peach tea blend. I’ve been interested in teas but didn’t really want to invest the time in it unless I knew I’d at least enjoy the tea flavor. Pleasantly surprised with the lychee tea mix. Definitely something I’ll look to mix next order I put in.
I went back to buying juice because I’m a failure at diy ejuice and can’t make anything as tasty as I can buy!
We all failed one time or another, /u/mlNikon said it right, start slow, use crayon templates until you can freehand it. We are all here to help ya succeed, feel free to ask us.
(That and bought juice usually have like 5% sweetner, which makes anything taste good) haha
as others have said...only when I'm trying to clone something or I just have an itch to vape something made by someone else lol. But I splurge on legitimate juice from vendors I know aren't neanderthals that just put 2 flavors and 10% sweetener in a bottle and call it premium.
I still buy E Juice every once in a while when i find an interesting flavor profile. I've gotten alright at picking out the specific concentrates used.
No, I go into vape shops to network with the owner(s)/employees and meet the in-house mixer. I'll try new juices in the demo tanks, if I find something, I'm using writing down notes and names, researching it and cloning it. I support the shops by paying for services, buying stuff like cotton/coils/replaceable stuff. Also try to help with community relations of passing out business cards/volunteering around the store/ offering photography and leaving reviews for the store.
The biggest thing I could do is to leave feedback for the owner and submit survey stuff for store improvement.
