Some advice about Marzipan or Almond please.
submitted about 7 years ago by Muck777

I'm looking for some advice about a simple marzipan.

Is it just the same as an almond flavour or is it sweeter? Who makes the best marzipan? FA? Inawera? Or is a recipe that's far more authentic?

Thanks.

FA Marzipan Flavor Review

Almond and such, FOTW

I tried both and I personally like the Inawera more, it's just authentic to me.

Most people here tend to favor FA though iirc.

edit: marzipan is much sweeter and has a rose note to it, not just pure almond.

Thanks for the reply.

I've been reading since I posted, and I agree that people seem to love FA. I think I'll give that a go.

To me marzipan is just almond and sugar, and personally I've never tasted rose or cherry, but I've read some reviews where undertones of fruit notes are in some concentrates, probably more like a Frangipane.

Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated.

I'm with him on the INW Marzipan... Tasty! I love it in bakeries and custards.

I love the cherry note in the INW, goes great with a good tobacco.

I think INW leans more towards frangipane while FA leans more to marzipan.

INW is nuttier. FA is fruitier. Haven't done a side by side to say which is sweeter. I'd guess FA. I use it in fruit (and occasionally floral) mixes to add sweetness.

Honestly, your money would be better spent elsewhere unless you really have a thing for almonds.

Now you’ve gone and made me want an almond Kringle pastry juice.
