I'm sure there are some out there thinking I've lost it; that Silky caused a psychotic break; that I've gone over to the dark side. (I haven't, but I checked it out and their cookies weren't good oatmeal chocolate chip or molasses cookies, they were horrible Oreos... and not even the ones with the almost chocolate flavored outside, they were the worst ones with the plain (vanilla) cookie outside, so I said the dark side needed to up its game.)
No, this recipe just shares the name with a baked good, it isn't based on one. The twin stars are FA Fuji (the Apple) and TFA Cherry Blossom. Although in truth, this started as a "add FA Fuji to a floral recipe and see how it goes, and I'll call it Apple Blossom if it works" and it just worked out that my favorite variation was this one. Elderflower goes nicely with apple, but I left it out this time. I thought Hibiscus would go well, but... So, the breakdown:
TFA Cherry Blossom: Used here at 3%, which can seem high, but considering what it needs to stand up to, strength was needed.
FA Fuji: I wanted apple. Nothing else is as 'apple' as FA Fuji. With this much Fuji, the Cherry Blossom needed to be a little heavy to not get bullied badly.
TFA Honeysuckle: FA Fuji maybe be a good apple, but not a terribly sweet one. TFA Cherry Blossom isn't a world of sweetness either. I wanted a candy/dessert vibe to this mix, and to stick with the floral nature of the recipe, this was the obvious choice. It's the 'sweetener alternative' flavor of the floral variety.
TL;DR -
#Apple Blossom 1-2-3
Co. | Flavor | %
----|--------------------------------|----
TFA | Honeysuckle | 1%
FA | Fuji | 2%
TFA | Cherry Blossom | 3%
Give it a week or so for the florals to really develop right.
This went directly to the to-mix list.
I'm a huge supporter of "add _____ to a floral recipe and see how it goes, and I'll call it ______ if it works"
I guess it's time I get cherry blossom. I've been putting it off.
I've been trying my hand with florals. I really like FA Jasmine, and everything I've tried with FA lavender has been garbage so far but I know it's workable.
I find the user-friendliest florals are Elderflower (I use INW, but FLV is fairly close), Honeysuckle, and maybe Hibiscus... but Cherry Blossom is right up there.
Still haven't gotten elderflower either... You suggested the inawera. Honeysuckle is the bomb, cap hibiscus is tasty too.
Sidenote: I was working on an actual recipe for you when I found out it was your cake day but everything I mixed that day I wasn't happy with. So I said, fuck it. He gets cupcake.
I think my pallet may just be particular, because while I don't hate honeysuckle, I don't really enjoy recipes that use it heavily. I get more of a weird fruit/actual flower flesh off of it than the floral notes. Kinda makes my mouth feel gritty, not in a good way, like eating plants - dandelion salad, sour grass, etc (just the gritty mouth feel).
Maybe I just haven't found a recipe that caters to me, but I wasn't super hot on longing. It wasn't bad and I could see why people would like it, but it just wasn't for me.
Hibiscus on the other hand... It is quite wonderful, gives me what I would like from honeysuckle. Might pick up WF Hibiscus Candy on the next order if I find some feedback on it
My palette is particular as well. I mixed up a batch of longing for my brother and just felt it was too light for me. I seem to enjoy just heavier tastes. I’m going to pick up some florals but I suspect I’ll use them as accents instead of as featured flavors. Honeysuckle at low percentages can really add that nice note that sneaks in or some flavor of sweet without the sugar.
Bought the missing ingredients and mixed this up. It's very interesting, I've never vaped floral stuff before but this is really well balanced and quite complex. It makes my throat tickly though but I think that's fuji, always seems to catch the throat.
I've just tried my first batch of this today, after a week steep, and it's delicious! The florals go very well with the apple, it's very aromatic. Congrats on the recipe and thanks for sharing!
Yeah, I was pretty proud of how this one turned out. I'm sure I could improve it by tweaking the percentages, maybe throwing another concentratie in, but it would be a lot more work for not a lot of improvement, I think. I think I've surpassed this one since, but yeah. Thanks for the feedback.
