Highlights from last week:
/u/ChemicalBurnVictim treated us to a treatise on “Getting in to Tobaccos” for FAQ Friday and while I expected it to be excellent, the flow chart really put it over the top. Personally I find myself in to tobaccos off and on and having CBV around as a guide to the many interesting variations and subtleties of the profile makes the rabbit hole that is tobaccos seem a lot easier to navigate.
Speaking of rabbit holes and tobaccos; there are very few in the realm of tobaccos deeper than the long history of clone attempts made for Boba’s Bounty. And yet here we are, all these years later, still trying to figure it out. And if I had to bet on anyone to get us closer or, close enough, it would be CBV and his latest clone attempt “Fett’s Reward” ^Look ^at ^all ^those ^flavors ^I ^don’t ^have
/u/juthinc is making yet another appearance in the highlights but this time it’s thanks to /u/xGRANITEx with his tailor made recipe “Juthinc’s Glory” which looks almost as good as his other highlight worthy recipe post “Horchata, Amigos” at this point I look forward to reading the recipe descriptions as much as I look forward to mixing them up--top notch, well thought out and always worth mixing if you’ve got the flavors.
And a shoutout to the winners of Boomdog’s Review Contest /u/Musth, /u/alfredpudding, /u/graystorm01, and /u/sc0lm00 for writing up some excellent recipe reviews and being rewarded with a bunch of flavors for their effort.

Is u/NotCharlesManson really dead? I'm not sure if I can trust you jokers.
Edit: I'm down voting y'all cause that's the only way to show my frustration
BCF just processed and shipped my order in 35 minutes flat. Just sayin
They've been extremely quick for me lately. Last order was shipped in two hours. I submitted it at 6am on a Saturday and it arrived Monday. Holding off on my current order to wait on Labor Day. If they still hold up during a sale, I'll probably never order from anyone else when possible.
I'm very impressed. Let's hope they start selling nic soon
Banana banana banana banana
Is INW custard the new "best custard"? I'm seeing it a lot in new recipes whereas cap vanilla custard used to be the "gold standard".. I'm asking because I need to resupply on custard and wondering if INW's is better and can be used in place of Cap's from now on.
CAPs was the gold standard, only because we didnt know anything better than it. Do note that you'll need to add vanilla to it if you want a total replacement, but it's good when you don't want that vanilla in there. It also requires virtually zero steeping time, unlike VC1.
Can anyone tell me if FA coco' (coconut) is the same as FA coconut? Can't seem to find the coco' (uk) and I want to make up leche de coco
It is the same. I've noticed some FA flavors seem to have two names. For example FA Red Touch and FA Strawberry are the same. I also mixed up Leche de Coco for the first time last week and it is truly wonderful. Very light yet still satisfying. Almost an ADV for me but a very refreshing vape for the evening when I'm kicking back and relaxing.
I'd assume so, maybe wrongly. I just ordered all of those flavors for that recipe, I'm excited
Got into DIY last year, and am finally running out of VG. gonna have to order soon and will get move flavors too. Ordered from Wizard Labs but wanna try someone new this time, is Bull City pretty much the most recommended vendor?
BCF is definitely the most recommended for flavors but not bases. Nic River is the best price for VG/PG if you're ordering enough from them to hit their $50 free shipping. If you don't hit the free shipping mark, the price of shipping seems to vary wildly from one person to the next.
So I've come up with a pretty decent raspberry crumble which I'm really happy with and want to try and add some custard to it. Not used custards before so looking to be pointed in the right direction, just want to make sure the crumble is still dominant and not drowned out by anything.
Can anyone recommend flavour(s)/percentages please and point me in the right direction?
Thanks.
1.5% INW Custard for starters and if that is not enough custard, next time try also adding a little LB Vanilla Ice Cream next time around.
I've been at DIY for a couple of months and have mostly stuck to recipes from ELR and have had great success so far. I took a shot at my own blueberry cheesecake and it was okay. Now I'd like to try to make my own blueberry yogurt flavor. Given the flavours below (That I think are relevant, I have many more fruity flavors) at my disposal, could someone maybe suggest a recipe for me? Much appreciated!

TPA:
- Blueberry (wild)
- Bavarian Cream
- Banana Cream
- Greek Yogurt
- Bilberry
- Sweet Cream
- Vanilla Custard
No FW Blueberry? TFA Blueberry Extra? FA Bilberry? INW Lemon Mix?
Tough to get a good blueberry then.
I'm not a yogurt fan but I looked at a few recipes and percentages on alltheflavors.com and found you some info. This recipe and this recipe may help you figure some things out.
For percentages, it looks like 3-4% blueberry wild and 1% bilberry will work for the berries. The Greek yogurt around 2-3%. And maybe some Bavarian Cream, Vanilla bean ice cream, or sweet cream to fill out the base a little more.
I'm not sure if there is a more appropriate sub reddit to post to, and if there is, please link me to it, that being said;
Trying to work out why my vaping has little to no flavour, initially it was a burnt coil, I bought new coils and there was little no taste from that, and then I came across "vapers tongue" - olfactory fatigue, I figured this might be my problem.
I only really vape FA fuji apple at 2-4% and since it's been tasting like nothing, i've upped it to 5 or 6 with no better results.
I heard either in a youtube video or somewhere that I read, that over doing it can mute flavours, but I was unclear as to whether that was for mixing flavours or individuals.
Currently taking a few days break from vaping, and once this fuji is cleared from my tank, I'm going to try 2% cactus as that is one of the few other flavours I've found I like.
I'm at quite a loss as to why it's not tasting like it used to taste;
is it over use of one flavour?
just vapers tongue?
bad nicotine, pg, vg (they visually look fine)
a batch of 3 crappy mesh coils?
a dirty tank or parts inside, somehow? I'm relatively "new" to vaping, in regards to how much liquid i've put through my tank, mixed a lot more than i've ever used.
any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated, and once again, I know this probably is the right place for this, but I feel like you guys will be highly informed on this kinda stuff, cheers.
Subtanks usually don't have the greatest flavor anyway. You may want to step up to an RTA or RDA in the near future.
Having said that, Fuji that high has probably given you olfactory fatigue. Switch flavors for a while and drink lots of water. You may even consider mixing up a small batch of unflavored to take a break.
Is it okay to premix your vg, pg, and nicotine into one large bottle, and store it that way?
Definitely fine but there are some downsides. I wrote a FAQ Friday on Premixed Bases that you might be interested in.
Fantastic post. I'm definitely going to mix it, at least for the beginning anyway. I like the idea of being able to squeeze the base mix into a small bottle, then just adding the flavoring(s). I ALWAYS vape 70-80VG/20-30PG and 3mg nicotine, so it'll work great for me :)
Is freebase nicotine worth ordering over nicotine salts?
I'll be purchasing both regular nic and salts for labor day (my buddy is getting into pods). I've heard that salts both absorb into your bloodstream easier, and are naturally resistant to oxidization.
This seems like a huge upgrade in every metric that matters. That in mind, is it better to use salts in low nic recipes (3mg/ml) or are there advantages to freebase? Has anyone tried this, what's your experience?
I much prefer freebase, I want my throat hit. It's more potent, thus cheaper, and doesn't oxidize if you treat it right. Plus, the nic stays in your system much longer.
Salts are for pods and similar small coil, low power systems. You need a high strength (40-60 mg/ml) to get any real effect. Sub ohming salts doesn't make much sense at all unless you're hyper sensitive to harshness.
Or just not into pain. Salts are better for newbs. Subohm 6mg freebase and you need to be a masochist or have a cast iron throat. Subohm 6mg salts, no problem. So for someone just quitting smoking, salts are probably better. (Unless they smoked nasty harsh cigarettes. Something that makes Gitanes seem like Benson&Hedges.)
Depends a bit on the setup and quality of the nic though. I usually do dual coil, .4 ohm, 50 watts, and yea, I wouldn't go above 3 mg. But I have a single coil vape right here, .7 ohm, 20 watts, at 9 mg and it's about the same in terms of strength and throat hit.
The throat hit is what I craved the most when quitting smoking. Though I did smoke pretty harsh cigarettes, a regular Marlboro would just barely satisfy the craving. *shrug* I suppose the need is subjective :)
Recommendations for a good all around sweetener that isn’t sucralose? (How are the xylitol and stevia ones?)
I was using xylitol for quit a while. The issue is: the sweetness index is comparable to plain VG. It's also extremely poisonous to dogs. Nic likely is too tho!
Stevia has been good. I can't stand sucralose. Although one thread that I read this week stated it breaks down at a lower temp. Haven't confirmed. Be careful sourcing as it's so potent that most bottles have tons of other crap added. Dextrose etc
Really not sure if I'm in the right place... but here goes...
Anyone suggest a widely available concentrate manufacturer that has unsweetened offerings?
Most of them don't have added sucralose, is that what you mean?
Don't care which sweetener it is just no sweetener..
VG is already borderline too sweet as it is.
I have only just started mixing and 5/6 different concentrates I have gotten are just too sweet.
Unsweetened how? So far as we know, FW is the only one of the main vaping flavor houses (maybe LA, as well) to add sucrose or fructose (both of which are harmful, unlike DAAP, to inhale) but even other sweeteners aren't terribly common in actual flavors (as opposed to one-shots, which may contain a bunch of sucralose). But many flavorings are meant to be sweet, and contain flavor volatiles that are sweet to some extent.

Where could I find some recipes for nic salts? I've tried quite a few of my own mixes and it always feels muted, even going up to ~20-25% flavoring. I mix it for 10mg MTL so I feel the nic shouldn't be muting it as much as it seems, correct me if I'm wrong. I'm interested in trying others' anyway though.
Also, any recommendations for freebase brand? I've tried Nic Select and Nicotine River (are they their own thing?), just wanting to try others before I settle on one.
I'm researching my next flavor order until Black Friday. Gonna finally pick up the holy holies. Anything extra I should get since I dont expect to be ordering from them again soon?

Separate question: may add some florals. I have TFA Honeysuckle. Was thinking to add TFA Cherry blossom and Elderflower but I cant find my saved post/comment and remember there was one to get and one to avoid. Can someone give a heads up or add to that? Im not diving down the hole but will pick up ones that folks think are solid. TIA

Edit: I think I’m going with chefs for this order. Anything they have you recommend I’d appreciate.

I'd go on, but without knowing what you already have...
(and if you want tobacco flavors from them, I'll let /u/chemicalburnvictim cover those.
I was wanting the INW tobaccos from there to mix up Brigade but unfortunately they don't hold a single one of them. Went for Abuela instead.
So I was going through some of my old flavors that I got back when I first attempted DIY back around 2014-2015. I had no idea what I was going and mostly just ordered flavors based on the name. All of them from Wizard Labs so they came in those 8ml glass vials that are a pain when mixing by weight. Making a more serious attempt into DIY last year, I began using some of the more popular flavors and if I ended up using a good bit of the glass vial, I would re-order from BCF or NicRiver so I could get it in a plastic squeeze bottle. However, I'm now realizing I have a good amount of flavors I never touched once and I'm not even sure are worth keeping around. I've made up a list of the flavors I'm a little unsure of, omitting the ones I use or know are good enough to keep around. Any chance I could get some suggestions on the ones that aren't really worth keeping around? Trash tier stuff like TFA Pizza.. Which I do have but never dared vape once after giving the bottle a sniff. The plan is to get rid of all these glass vials. Some of them I'll use over time if they're good, but I feel a good number of them are probably not very good or better off being replaced with a different vendor's rendition. The list below are flavors I haven't used yet in several years of having them and I've omitted ones I know are trash and ones that I know are good. Thanks for any tips/advice on this situation.
- CAP French Toast
- CAP Creamy Yogurt
- CAP Golden Pineapple
- CAP Italian Lemon Sicily
- CAP Double Watermelon
- CAP Green Apple
- CAP Spearmint
- LA Banana Cream
- LA Citrus Blossom
- LA Natural Raspberry
- LA Cranberry
- TFA Pina Colada
- TFA Whipped Cream
- TFA Coconut
- TFA Orange Cream
- TFA Orange Mandarin
- TFA Peach
- TFA Kiwi Double
- TFA Apple (Tart Granny Smith)
- TFA Cantaloupe
- TFA Nectarine
- TFA Pineapple
- TFA Blue Raspberry
- TFA French Vanilla Deluxe
- TFA Blackberry
- TFA Berry Cereal
- TFA Hickory Smoke
- TFA Lemon (Water Soluble)
- TFA Strawberries & Cream
- TFA Pumpkin Spice
The flavors in this list I appreciate are CAP Golden Pineapple LA Banana Cream
TFA Coconut
TFA Orange Cream
TFA Kiwi Double
TFA Cantaloupe
TFA Pineapple
TFA French Vanilla
TFA blackberry is just really potent for TFA, use it at 1% or less.
That's one fruit I've been wanting to mess around with in a vape. Thanks for the potency tip, I probably would have tried it around 4 or 5% if you hadn't mentioned it.
