Vanilla Bean Ice Cream Recipe?
submitted about 7 years ago by iamROTFL

i was wondering if anyone had a solid recipe for a vanilla bean ice cream?

i've seen numerous posts and recipes for "Strawberries & Cream" or "Tobacco & Cream" (etc.) but never a recipe for something basic yet delicious like a creamy vanilla bean ice cream you might find at a creamery.

i've tried mixing up just TFA's V.B.I.C. but, it's not exactly layered with amazing flavor by itself...

anyone have any experience with this? thank you!

Subs could be FLV Cream for Fresh Cream- PUR Condensed Milk - DIYFS Holly Vanilla - Low % HS French Vanilla IC or HS IC for Sweet Cream.

Could dump CAP Vanilla Custard & Gelato for FA Premium Custard or INW Custard. Or Fresh03's custard in LB VIC + FLV Vanilla Pudding

LB Vanilla Ice Cream and FLV Cream straight up would work too.

I'm thinking JF Dulce de Leche thrown in for a little Carmel note and with the vanilla/dairy aspect you could sub out a few flavors. That + FLV Cream + Holy Vanilla/Shisha Vanilla + CAP Vanilla Whipped Cream + OOO Milky Undertone/PUR Consensed + FA Marshmallow.

Possibly FLV Milk & Honey could fit in somewhere but I'm not that versed in it and I find it tricky to layer.

Excellent suggestions here. I would add, for that vanilla bean top note, try FLV Vanilla Bean.

Here's one I'm mixing this weekend:
Nilla Beaner
LB Vanilla Ice Cream 6%
INW Custard 1%
FLV Vanilla Bean 0.5%
SD Regular Sweetener 0.25%
WS-23 30% 0.35%

Should be good to try in 3 days, near its peak in about 10 days.

Good call, I actually never heard of Vanilla bean for some reason. .50% of FLV Vanilla pudding would work for a custard too but INW's is not a big steeper but can be eggy if used too high.

How do you like SD sweetener? Do they release SDS sheets? I've heard about them a lot obviously but never did research on them.

So far the SD seems about equivalent to TFA for sweetness potency, but with less of the artificial aftertaste when used at higher percentages. Maybe I should do a side-by-side test?

Don't know about the SDS but I'd like to read it if it's available and actually lists everything that's in it.

LA Cream Cheese Icing can give it a frosting note. If you didn't order already I'd wait 2 weeks for the labor day sales. Watch the noted shows on youtube on the flavors you're interested in and River's youtube chan also which he started. Rinvapes is another one to check out too.

Actually a high end vanilla ice cream begs for Holy Vanilla. It tastes exactly like the expensive ice cream vanilla. This should be your primary vanilla imho.

This guy pretty much asks the same question as you, and answers it with some very good advice. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWfK8LNXgOs&t=1220s he posts the recipe used as well.

I can't believe I forgot to post that vid as obviously I knew that recipe from that and just posted it not too long ago. It's been 1 1/2 years though since that and I think it can be tweaked a bit.

Not a recipe but try 0.5-1.0% of CAP Vanilla Custard in the mix and see if that doesn't add some depth to it.

Nice. Those other 2 are good in a lot of recipes. Lb vbic is one of my favorite creams for adding nice texture to dessert or binding fruits. Meringue is highly popular.

do you have any idea how it compares to TFA's VBIC? (i only ask because i have near 4oz.)

Im a deviant and cant help but toss in some creme de menthe into my recipes...also have been messing with vape trains milkshake but not sure if I like it or not...its more malty to me then anything.

Same thing with MB Milkshake and I think both are meant to be like that. I tried a batch of FLV Creme de menth, MB Milkshake, MB Glamor Chocolate and it was decent but that's probably because it's been steeping for 4 months. You gotta add around it...

People tend to get a little overly complex with recipes around here. I’d order some FW Vanilla bean ice cream and call it a day. It’s pretty great by itself or with a fruit mixed in and cheap to boot

8-10% stand alone around 4-6% in a mix

You could always go old school...2% fa fresh cream, 1% fa vienna cream. maybe even .25 or .5% of hs french vanilla ice cream for some buttery richness.

Use TFA Vanilla Swirl as a stand-alone. Tweak from there if necessary. That is the main note you are probably hunting for.

I rarely order from these guys due to their higher prices but the below VBIC flavor is supposedly dead on.
