“There's a another girl in the Dopeman's life.

Not quite a b**ch but far from a wife.

She's called Strawberry and everybody knows

"Strawberry! Strawberry! Is the neighborhood hoe" --NWA

That’s right strawberry’s in the house. She saunters in showing way too much of her bright red skin. Sweet and sassy. Green leaves indecently exposed, begging for you to stare at them. But don’t touch them or you might find yourself in a jam.

The Good

As we all know, strawberry is kind of the “ho” of the DIY world, almost everyone likes, uses, and abuses it. It’s been paired with almost every kind of recipe imaginable, from bakery to deserts to single flavours. (according to Wayne at DIYorDIE, not the “ho” part, the “it’s used in everything part”)

The short and sweet of it is that this is strawberry custard. This is listed as a “strawberry overdose” clone. It can be found on the Dr Crimmy V-liquid website. And on there, you can choose your VG/PG ratio. For this recipe, I made it about 65/35, only because I got a little too squeezy with my pg bottle.

I’ve never had the original, so I can’t speak to the accuracy of this compared to the original. But, what I can talk about is how much strawberry you have here. The CAP Sweet strawberry mixed with the strawberry ripe, gives a full bodied well rounded flavour of real strawberry. The first taste of it is akin to a good ripe strawberry, not too tart or sweet. Just a good strawberry taste.

After less than a day of steeping, you taste mostly the strawberry, it’s very bright, with almost no taste of the custard. But even without any steeping, the cream and custard to me still give the feeling of thickness, a bit of heavy-ness. After 7 days of steeping, this has balanced out a bit more. The strawberry is not soo blindingly bright. Now, I can taste a bit of the vanilla undertones. But the custard still doesn't quite come through.

The Bad

17% total flavour. This is a high percentage of flavours. It might be more suited to an MTL device, instead of a tank or RDA. Unfortunately, I found myself having to switch to something else before too long as very quickly the flavour for me became muted. I think the high % makes vapor tongue a very real thing with this recipe.

The Ugly aka The Nitty-Gritty

I like strawberry, but I can’t recommend this recipe unless you tweak the percentages. The first few puffs are really good, and very strawberry, but then it starts to become muted. And the % of the strawberry overpowers the custard flavour meant to be there by the combo of the VC, VBIC and BC.

If I had to re-do this recipe, I would do it something like this.

Flavours|% :--|:-: TPA Bavarian Cream|1% TPA Strawberry Ripe|1% CAP Sweet Strawberry|3% CAP Vanilla Custard V1|3% TPA VBIC|1%

So, This is supposed to be a strawberry custard. For starters, I would drop the CAP strawberry to 3%, and the add the strawberry ripe at 1%, to round out the strawberry. Since this is a custard, CAP Vanilla Custard at 3%, and the VBIC at 1%, to add a bit more vanilla and some heavy-ness to the recipe, and the bavarian cream at 1%, to add more body and vanilla to the custard-y side of this recipe. Also, the original recipe doesn’t call for a steep, but with the VC and BC, you absolutely need to steep this for at least a week or more.

As a side note, all testing was done in a tobecco tank and a geekvape tsunami running between 35-60 watts.

DISCLAIMER: No strawberries were harmed in the making of this review. Although a few strawberries may have been squeezed, sniffed and eaten, but strictly for scientific purposes.

Haha loved the write-up buddy!

The elusive strawberry. I reckon this is happening because you've got 3 ingredients that (afaik) contain EM, the TFA Bavarian Cream, TFA Strawberry Ripe and CAP Sweet Strawberry. The more you use the more muted everything becomes. The strawberry runs away from you as you try and get closer. The solution? Well you could try adding a different cream like maybe FA Cream Fresh - and then try out different strawberry flavours. People also add 0.5% of their chosen raspberry to bring out the flavour and redness of strawberry.

yeah, this has enough EM in it to choke a moose.

I would suggest tossing out the vbic and use some cap French vanilla, it’s definitely present in their overdose. I get hints of Tfa’s vanilla custard as well.

I appreciated your review and the recipe posted, definitely mixing up a bottle of your revised recipe once I finish off my bottle of mustard milk.

You did it! Great job, and I’m happy to hear that no strawberries had to die to make it happen.

Also, I’m currently experimenting w my JF sweet strawberry and Purilum strawberry ripe in place of Capella and tfa combo hoping to get the same sweet mix but a longer lasting flavor. Just made my, not my recipe, but a strawberry milk recipe yesterday I’m waiting to steep but I’m hopeful....;)

Don't forget RF Strawberry SC, another good one.

I like JF stb sweet a lot better than Cap's version. It definitely doesn't fade near as badly.

Maybe, just maybe it is best at 30+ days?

Maybe. Or...

  1. Mix the custard ingredients and VG/PG, steep for 14 days
  2. Add the strawberry flavorings, steep for another 7 days
