Calling tobacco aficionados, help!
submitted about 7 years ago by DreadPirateSnuffles

Obligatory mobile format apology.

So I am going to mix up Abuela by Fear, and I realized that I accidentally forgot to purchase FLV Virginia. After reading many flavor notes, I chose to substitute INW 555 Gold instead, as it was described as a Burley/Virginia mix and I also like nutty vapes. And it was absolutely delicious!

However I was wondering if any of you might be able to take a look at the tobaccos I have and tell me which one you think would be the best substitute for FLV Virginia. I am quite certain that some of these will not fit, but at the same time I am not certain at all, since I'm pretty new to Tobacco flavors.

DIYFS: Holy Holy Ry4

FA: Desert Ship

FE: Captain, French Pipe, Golden Leaf, Tobacco Absolute

FLV: Cured, Connecticut Shade, Kentucky, Native, Red Burly, Tatanka, Turkish

HS: Tab blended, No. 5

INW: 555 Gold, S'Camel, Gold Ducat (new I assume), Virginia (not the TA), AM4A, DNB

TPA: Ry4D, DK Tobacco, Black Honey

Out of the tobaccos you've listed I think the 555 Gold was the best choice.

I've also mixed Abuela when I lacked the FLV Virginia. I used 0.7% INW TA Virginia and it turned out good, just needed more steeping time than the original to eliminate a slight astringent taste.

I've been mixing "Abuela Base", making the recipe without the Mango then adding a different accent flavor such as INW Marzipan. The possibilities are practically endless.

Thanks. Unfortunately the non TA INW Virginia is nowhere near what FLV Virginia supposedly is. And yeah I've used that base for quite a few mixes, it's quite good. Made a pretty nice pistachio tobacco mix. I want to grab some Saline solution to see how that works in getting a savory vape

Reminds me-- I need to make samples with and without saline to test. I add a few drops sometimes but not sure what effect it's producing, if any.

If you ever use One Stop DIY Shop, they have Modudose Saline Solution.

Are you looking for just a general sub, or just for Abuela?

I would sub it with FLV Native at 1% in Abuela. I think that’d be pretty good, and it’ll do some of the same stuff he is using the Virginia for in the recipe.

Where’d you get your INW Virginia from? What you describe kind of sounds like it’s their Classic Virginia. They have like 5 different Virginias, so it’s hard to say. I think their E-Aromat Virginia is a pretty good sub for FLV, but it sounds like you might have something different.

He doesn’t get on here a whole lot that I’ve seen, but we could try paging /u/feartx for his suggestion.

A general sub for future use would be nice, but for immediate uses and the purpose of this post, for abuela.

Wow 5 different versions? I was only aware of the TA and non-TA versions. Man INW can get confusing with their different lines. I got it at bullcityflavors. It seems that it is the e-aromat version, at least that is what their graphic states. Link: https://www.bullcityflavors.com/virginia-flavoring-inw/

It isn't useless, but it is definitely a bit floral and sweet, and doesn't seem to be comparable to FLV Virginia's leafy hay qualities. Perhaps I placebo-d myself when reading the flavor note review of INW Virginia, but I definitely get something sweet and somewhat rose-y from smelling and taste-testing the concentrate.

Flv Virginia is pretty unique i think, it's super grassy. I don't like it at all, it's like vaping hay on it's own. I don't think you have a good sub for it, but maybe try a really low amount of the FE TA.

I would tag ChemBurn but i'm not sure how to haha pretty sure he will show up once he sees tobacco on the title.

I don't really have much experience with tobaccos except that I've mixed with FLV Cured and FLV Red Burley a couple times. But I can mention that TFA RY4D isn't necessarily a tobacco flavor. It's more like caramel with a slight dirty/ashy note to it. It does sort of bring a tobacco-esque note with it but it's better used as an accent to other tobaccos as opposed to a standalone tobacco.

FLV also develops their tobacco flavors to minimize steep time. I don't have experience with other manufacturers in this department but in general the FLV tobaccos I've used have pretty much been good to go within a few days at most.

That works for every RY4? I love the vainilla/caramel and dry notes of it althougt I use the Vap Fip (spanish brand) one. I've used too the Virginia blend of another Spanish brand but was too "alcoholic" noted, and I was thinking to jump in the 555 one.

I'm trying to remember... I think Tatanka was closer to Native than Virginia. I think there's a Stixx Mix that's close to the FLV? But that wouldn't help here. I'm not sure (that's what /u/chemicalburnvictim is for) but I think the closest you have would be either the INW Virginia or the HS Tab (I know running down your list, many are just not close at all. Not sure I recall HS Tab, so there's a chance. )

Edit: double checked. HS Tab is nowhere near.

Unfortunately INW Virginia is something similar to rosewater, so wouldnt really substitute very well. If I had the TA version I probably would have thrown that in there.

Rosewater? I've never got that from it. I've got the INW Virginia and the TA.

Out of those tobaccos, nothing even comes close to tobacco. I don't know why they bother pretending.

In that case, what does come close in your opinion?

Don't come close to pipe tobacco? Or cigar tobacco? Or chewing tobacco? What kind of tobacco don't they come close to? Just wondering...

Idk about the rest of the tobacco guys here but 555 gold needs one helluva steep in my experience or else I get nothing but a handful of roasted peanuts. That said when it ages it is a fantastic vape think it would be decent in Abuela if youre willing to wait
