Full Review of Sadlad Toast Crunch by u/RageIsAlotOfWork

The Story

Alright everyone, sit back and relax while I take you on a journey through Sadlad's world. The first thing you'll notice when you arrive is the sharp hit of cinnamon that fills the very air around you. Sure, some people tend to find the bite of cinnamon that greets them somewhat uncomfortable and harsh, but life is harsh — ask Sadlad. Just linger in the spicy cinnamon essence for a few days and you'll find you hardly even notice it anymore. The next thing you will come to realize about the melancholy environment you have found yourself in is how arid things have gotten.

The crunchy layer of dust that coats the top of everything around you brings an eerily familiar sensation. It reminds you of waking up in the morning and opening a fresh box of wheat and rice cereal only to discover that there is no milk left in the refrigerator. So you sit quietly on the torn antique couch in the corner of the room and eat your dry cereal in utterly hopeless misery, wondering what could possibly bring you a sense of relief. You don't have to worry about things like that here; Sadlad will take care of you.

You will soon find yourself enveloped in a blissful, milky sense of numbness. You won't remember the cinnamon stabbing the back of your throat anymore or the dry desperation of wheat and rice dust, all you will know now is the toasty marshmallow pillow of emptiness that you can lay your weary head on for a brief moment of comfort. If you expected any more sweetness from Sadlad you were misled, and if you want sugar and unicorn milk you will have to find that elsewhere.

Preface

Hello everyone, I am Alfred Pudding and this is my full review of Sadlad Toast Crunch, a recipe created by u/RageIsAlotOfWork. I have been working on reviewing this recipe since I started mixing, and that should give you a good idea of how long I've been mixing. I picked this for my entry to the Boomdog Recipe Review contest for two major reasons: Out of the 10 recipes I tried when I started, this was the one I found myself coming back to, and this was the one that taught me the most about what goes into making a good recipe. If you have never tried it before I highly suggest mixing some up, and even if you have tried it before consider making some more after reading this review and getting to know Sadlad a bit more.

The Review

The reason this is my favorite recipe so far, is because it demonstrates what is possible with DIY flavor creation. It is a very accurate profile of Cinnamon Toast Crunch with nice touch of sweet, rich milk. The somewhat grainy mouthfeel that is produced by a sizable amount of cinnamon, wheat, and rice, along with the notes of cream and marshmallow really instill this recipe with a sense of nostalgia. The pairing of Cereal 27 and Rice Crunchies gives this recipe a wonderful body that really completes the cereal effect. After steeping for a few days the cinnamon from the Cinnamon Danish Swirl mellows out some which allows for the other flavors to come through more. The most interesting part of this recipe to me is how Pie Crust is used to add a hint of dark, caramelized sugar. I do recommend trying this recipe with a small amount of sweetener added for the cinnamon sugar aspect to come through. Other than that I don't have anything that I would alter about this recipe, it's seriously awesome and you should make some.

Method

I tested it at various stages of the steeping process in three different RDAs. The first RDA I tested it in was the Recurve RDA with a tri-core fused clapton at 60W. This RDA has a somewhat restricted airflow and the coil is placed close to the drip tip, so the notes of cinnamon and cereal are really apparent. This is the RDA that allowed me to figure out what the pie crust was doing for the recipe. The next RDA I tested the recipe with was the Drop Solo RDA with a single core fused clapton at 40W. This RDA has a ridiculous amount of airflow compared to the Recurve and the coil is much lower, so it allowed me to pick out more of the milky background in the profile. The toasted marshmallow also gets highlighted with this RDA, and it was interesting to see the effect it had on the recipe. The final RDA that I tested it in was a Berserker MTL RDA with a superfine fused clapton at a whopping 20W. This recipe holds up surprisingly well in a MTL RDA. One interesting thing that happened when testing it in this is how much the flavor of Cereal 27 gets highlighted. This is where I figured out that adding a small amount of sweetener adds something nice to the recipe.

TL;DR: Try Sadlad Toast Crunch.

Great review. This is a really good mix. The cinnamon danish swirl in it isnt my favorite though (subjective). Another similar recipe recipe is Toasted by MrBurgundy. It's pretty fantastic in its own way.

I really like how you show what a difference an atty, rda, rta, rdta etc ... can make in the taste or lack of in a recipe. I’m sure that’s why many recipes don’t get the love for how good they really are because unless you’re using an rda for good flavor and/ or can recognize the fact how much different juice tastes in different devices often the translation gets lost and hopefully ppl don’t give up but sometimes I think they might. And, btw, not that it matters but I don’t see the correlation of your mixing time and this recipe. I can see why you couldn’t be mixing longer than this recipe exists but that’s about it. Nevertheless, great review, good luck in the contest and many thanks for the contribution! ....;)

Thank you so much for taking the time to read it, and to leave a great comment. I agree that it’s very important to recognize the effect different setups have on the flavors used in a recipe. I apologize if my discussion on how long I’ve been mixing was unclear, I was trying to convey that I’ve only been mixing as long as I have been working on a review for the Boomdog Review Contest.

Interesting style. A fairly decent writeup, although it's not something I would ever mix I can see how it would appeal to some.

What? Just because vaping solid food flavors creeps me out doesn't mean I don't see the appeal. Although I've never understood this whole 'milk' business with cereal vapes... I always found the 1oz of milk/bowl of cereal kept the cereal from being dry, but was completely absorbed.

I don't really like cereal stuff anymore, but your review makes me really want to purchase the flavors to make this sometime. Great write up.

Great review. Keep at them.

Apart from its use in ID10-T's Lucky Charms, I find CAP Cereal 27 horrible to work with. The fact that it needs a bucket of cream to stop it turning into a corn mess says it all. OOO Speckled Flakes sounds appealing though.

I will have to look into that one. I know what you mean about cereal 27, but I actually enjoy it even solo. I will definitely keep at the reviewing. Thanks for reading!

I really liked it as well though I find that I don't get the milky/creaminess as much as I would like so I plan to modify it a little bit the next time I mix it, which might be tonight actually. I also agree that a touch of sweetener helped make the recipe a bit more authentic feeling to me but most recipes I put at least a few drops in, not as bad as commercial juice but I find at least a little always makes something taste fuller.

Thanks for reading my review! If you ever do figure out your rendition with more milk please let me know, I would love to try it out. I always like to try things without sweetener first to see what qualities it adds.

I loved reading this. Not to mention I love love love sadlad. Of all the mixes I’ve made up off atf that weren’t tobaccos, this is one of, if not my favorite, so far. I’ve mixed 2 30’s and it just got bumped up to a 60. I’ve mixed this for three other people as well saying this has to be tried.

But for your review. Loved it. It’s funny without being pedantic. You cover all the technical stuff. But you have the tl;dr ftw. Kudos!

Thank you for taking time to read through it! It’s really interesting to see the difference of opinions. I’m trying to avoid finishing the remainder of mine so I can see how it turns out after long-term steeping. Let me know if you ever have anything you’d like me to review.
