As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.
#This week's flavor is: Honey

This is a beautiful thing you're doing, thank you.
Can you add WF Honey Roasted Peanuts, TFA Black Honey, SC Honey Flue Cured, PUR Honey Cake, OoO Honey Baked Honey Oats, OoO Honey Concentrate, OoO Real Honey, OoO Honey II, TFA Honey Circle Cereal, and GF Honig (honey) to it?
SC Honey Flue Cured - I get some sweetness from it, but I notice some distinctly bad baggage... anise. Is it just paranoia making me find that awfulness in this concentrate? Anyone else notice this? (Luckily, it's not overpowering, and it can be mostly covered up in a mix.)
some of your ELR links link to recipes that include the flavor whereas some go directly to the flavor page itself.
Actually, they all go to the Flavor Page. But because I link to that page sorting the recipes by rating, the link brings up the middle of the page where the recipes start - and it looks like just a page of recipes. Just scroll up and you'll see the whole Flavor Page.
I’ll never forget my first honey concentrate... and I’ll never try another honey concentrate again. Seriously, you couldn’t pay me.
If there is somebody out there reading this that is considering ordering TPA/TFA Honey- Don’t. No matter what.
So a few years ago I was a new mixer who read a number of warnings but I still really, really wanted to vape honey.
I'd already figured out that some flavors people said weren't good tasted good to me at a much lower % than the average use for that manufacturer's flavors (TFA Blackberry for example) so I figured maybe TFA Honey could be ok at 1%. LOL Nope. It tastes like a meth lab mostly or as skiddlzninja would later describe it "growing up in Ohio" and "dumpster flowers."
Someone made a recipe with 0.25% TFA Honey in it and I said that looks good except for the TFA Honey but he said, no, it is good, just try it. So I did and it was... not good.
Now I have some TFA Honey mixed single flavor at 0.1% I'm gonna try in the next few days because I'm stupid.
I tried a batch of serial dilutions (make a 10%, then a 10% from that, etc) and never found a dilution that made tfa honey taste good. Its super floral to the end, and it seems to taint everything it touches
I really like TFA Black Honey. I think its considered a tobacco, but I really can’t pick out any distinct tobacco notes when it’s on its own. It’s darker but pretty light on the palate, and it tastes like honey that was dumped into a black tea. It’s a nicely balanced honey if you want a heavier sweet note rather than something lighter or creamier.
I got black honey as a free sample and after vaping it as a stand alone I picked up a 30ml bottle of it, it’s become a mainstay in my vape cabinet. I just put an order in for ry4 double hoping to come up with a decent caramel/peach honey tobacco.
Yeah, it seems like a pretty versatile flavor, and I’ve been throwing it into a lot of bakeries and liking the results.
Just as a heads up, RY4 Double is delicious, but there isn’t much of a tobacco note in it. Purilum Sweet Tobacco is fairly sweet (like the name obviously implies), and that might work well in the profile you’re describing.
Hey I can contribute.
I mixed up Honeybee http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe/177178/Honeybee and tried it recently (after 1 month steep). I'd say it's pretty solid all around. Very natural honey in milk type of flavor. The honey is shockingly accurate in both sweetness and flavor. Perhaps a little too potent for my tastes. The flavor is quite rich and I think the caramel plays into that. It almost tastes 50/50 between the honey and milk flavor. I don't know if people actually drink honey and milk in the real world but I'd say this is extremely accurate in replication.
I'm definitely looking for guidance on something similar to Kilo Honey Cream. Dollar ejuice Clubs makes something very similar but I'm almost not sure if a traditional honey flavoring is in either one or if the honey aspect comes from something like a Graham flavor instead. I also haven't tried FLV Milk and Honey which might be a cruicial easy part to these.
The only straight up honey i have is FA honey and its nice, just potent. Flv milk & honey is lovely especially mixed with your choice of cookie, cereal, or graham cracker. In the tobacco realm of things, gold for pipe and dark for pipe both have excellent honey notes as well as tfa black honey.
FA Honey is very potent but tastes very authentic. Sadly it smells like cat piss :)
I really like adding it to all sorts of stuff at very low %, like 0.1 - 0.2 %.
You don't know cat piss until you've tried TFA Honey.
I really like FA Honey too. I like it
Here - Notorious
Here - Dune
Here - Unpopular Opinions
Probably Here - Honey Sesame Popcorn as I liked an earlier version and IIRC he used some advice I gave him to revise it.
And Definitely here - Big Papa's Macaron but that's a biased opinion obviously
I keep meaning to mix up some of this - Honeybee but haven't gotten around to it, hopefully I'll do that this week.
I really like this one:
In 2018 this was by far my most vaped juice.
But I keep the Cactus at 0.5% as it was initially ;)
Thanks for the mention. Luckily I wasn't a pioneer and I had the benefit of others' honey flavor notes when developing Dune. It saved me from having to experiment with the awfulness that gets passed off as honey.
Been eyeing dune for a minute now. My clove is fa I think. Any idea if it’s a 1:1 sub or if it’ll work similarly? I feel like fa clove definitely fades and fast too. But I’ve only been very light handed with it.
Also, any versions of this add a hint of cardamom? Just curious how deep down the spice hole maud’dib goes.
I finally got my FLV Milk & Honey. Fantastic earthy floral honey with a creamy milk body. I’ve worked it into my green tea recipe and it’s perfect here. This recipe finally feels rounded out. If you’re struggling to use your eisai Tea or rose flavors, I’d highly recommend this.
Almond (FA) .5 Cucumber (CAP) .66 Eisai Tea (FLV) 1.5 Mango (FLV) 1.33 Milk & Honey (FLV) .5 Rose (FA) .66
I love FLV Milk & Honey but I don't get anything I'd call honey out of it.
I'm glad I never fell into the trap that is TFA Honey. I did fall into a couple other TFA traps though. Honey isn't one of my preferred flavors and I don't really like Tea so I never felt the need to pick up anything in the honey department. But I've been seeing a few recipes where I'm only missing FLV Milk & Honey so that will be going into my next flavor order.
Any other good flavors within the profile that are worth checking out? Preferably ones that don't smell like cat piss.
Haven't dove far down the honeyhole yet, but I've got samples of 20 different flavors with "honey" in the name mixed up. Lemme get back to you on that.
Appreciate it. I think honey could make a great accent to some bakery recipes. Definitely would go well with tobaccos but I have only just begun trying different tobacco flavors.
I got Vape Trains Sweet Honey. It don't taste like honey at all. Its just weird and indescribable.
What % did you mix it?
I'm pretty sure 4%.
Waaaay too much to even have a shot at being palatable. Maybe try again at 1% if you haven’t tossed your sample and can just dump some and re-dilute it.
But if you have tossed it, probably not worth making another. It reminds me of licking honey flavored edible body powder off of someone, complete with the bit of musky undertone.
