TPA vs FW Cotton Candy, are they exactly the same?
submitted about 7 years ago by MTLian

Hello,

I'm a intermediate DIYer and I'm looking to step up my game so I've decided to order some Ethyl Maltol as an additive to put the finishing touch on my recipes. I'm ordering from the USA and I have three options:

-TPA Cotton Candy

-FW Cotton Candy

-10% Ethyl Maltol in PG solution

Flavor West flavorings are hard to get in Canada so I was thinking of going with that but I notice on the recipe site I use that TPA Cotton Candy seems much more common. Are these exactly the same: a 10% solution of Ethyl Maltol? Or are there any differences in quality I should be weary of? What do you recommend? (PS can't be bothered to mix crystals myself and want to buy a solution)

Thanks!

TFA/TPA Cotton Candy is a 10% dilution of Ethyl Maltol in PG and nothing else according to their [ingredients sheet] (https://shop.perfumersapprentice.com/componentlist.aspx?sku_search=346578).

FW Cotton Candy is Ethyl Maltol and Vanillin according to their [ingredients sheet] (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kH9-e7rchotj_Qx8NmxMlfuy-11SN3Vl/view?usp=drivesdk), but they can't be trusted.

I use TPA/TFA and it's just the trick sometimes.

Alright! I'm gonna go with the straight up sucralose to see how I like it so I'm gonna try TPA cotton candy. Thanks for the info!

Wires crossed? Ethyl maltol (aka TPA cotton candy) and sucralose (aka FW Sweetener) are entirely different things...

I know, that's why I was asking if there was difference between TPA Cotton Candy and FW Cotton Candy. I also have TPA sucralose. I'm guessing most sucralose solutions are similar but I've read that CAP's super sweet is 50/50 EM and sucralose.

Why can't FW be trusted? Did I miss something? I'm pretty sure mislabeling ingredients in consumables is a crime no?

They don’t always disclose the full component list and refuse to be compliant

Hmm good to know. I wonder what lab testing would cost just as a fuck you.

Any more information on FW and their untrustworthiness? I've been looking at a couple of the recipe packs on BCF and some of the ones I'm looking at have primarily FW flavors. I've kind of been leery of those because I've heard of questionable ingredients in their flavors.

As Ediblemalfunction stated, They don’t always disclose the full component list and refuse to be compliant.

You want FW flavors?

It's not exactly Canada, but BestGlycol in quebec carries FW. Pretty sure thebrokevaper.ca carries FW. Hell, even the shittiest vendor in canada (diye-juice.com) carries FW IIRC.

TFA Cotton Candy is 10% EM in solution. TFA Circus Cotton Candy is not, and has horrid off-tastes of black licorice, allegedly, and vanilla. FW hasn't given info as to what is in their cotton candy flavoring.

Well, strictly speaking, Quebec is a province of Canada but that's a whole 'nother can of worms!

I just ordered plenty of flavors from BestGlycol and they do not carry many Cappella and FW flavors I seek. They don't have FW cotton candy for example! I'm actually a 30 min drive from BestGlycol and they've given me great customer service to date ;) . Now if I could only find a Canadian distributor of Flavors Express and Jungle Flavors, I'd be all set!

Flavor Express is mostly rebranded SC stuff, from all reports. So you're stuck with ordering from abbotsford... (They also carry some JF.)

And... My Canada does NOT include Quebec.

No one wants to live in YOUR Canada.

Just out of curiosity, how come you say that DIY e juice is the worst vendor. I've ordered from them once and it was ok.
