As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.

Please help me out . . . is there any other info that should be included here? Suggested mixing percentage? Descriptive terms (ie Strong, Chemical taste, Candy-ish, etc)? Something Else?
Also - if you know of a concentrate that should be added - let me know.
Is INW Falcon Eye the tobacco that should be added to this, /u/chemicalburnvictim ?
It is indeed Falcon Eye. I see someone on ELR has written a note that also confirms they taste ginger, so I don’t think I’m crazy. But INW says it’s tobacco with a hint of pear. So, there’s that I guess.
Link to flavor wiki? The CR use percentages... that's most of it.
Also, inw exotic roots is supposed to be mainly a ginger flavor.
The Flavor Wiki looks like it was intended to be a great resource - and then it just petered out. Right now, there's a decent skeleton without much to flesh it out. The only info for ginger are Flavorah Ginger and Flavorah Ginger Peach - and they're just repeats of ConcreteRiver's reviews.
You mention the "CR"? I'm not familiar with the abbreviation.
I've tried ginger thanks to /u/loonicorn420, via Mixers Club. Ardent was really good, and I tried other tasty ginger recipes as well. Loonicorn is the ginger master who can drop some knowledge. I see FW, HS, and FLV used in Enraged Reactions that was nice too
Better late than never I am chiming in!
I am obsessed with ginger! I love to cook with it, I must have it with every bite of sushi, and I love it in sweets like cakes, but even more so candies. It's just interesting, unique, and yummy. I had a brief but intense love affair with Hagaan Das Ginger Ice Cream during its short but cherished existence.
So when I started mixing e juice it seemed only natural that I should try to bang out some delicious and unique ginger recipes.
The first time I ever mixed with it I simply added 1.5% FLV Ginger to /u/ID10-T's Longing and was instantly hooked on it as an ingredient in e juice. So I began to play.
I have 4 public recipes that use ginger. Some of them are still being tweaked or being evolved into new recipes. Here they are.
So now I will detail the experiences I had in developing those recipes with the various gingers I have. Most of my impressions come from how they taste in a mix. I am a lazy non-sft'er. I literally did my first sfts on the Noted Ginger Episode tonight. (Someone can link in response if allowed).
FLV Ginger Definitely my favorite. It's sweet and spicy and deep, as ginger should be. It also has this heady underlying bit of floral. In Ardent it comes across as orange blossom honey. (Lol @ /u/dontpanic4242 for the orange chicken comment). Now to me, orange blossom honey doesn't taste like orange; it tastes like orange blossoms (aka neroli) smell. I used to make aromatherapy and neroli was one of my favorites along with jasmine and rose absolutes. All three share similar characteristics. They are so deep and alluring that it almost makes you feel buzzed when you smell them. THAT's the quality I get from FLV Ginger rather than actual orange flavor. It's really great as a single flavor too. And it is an excellent addition to use with other ginger flavors to enhance them.
HS Ginger Solid ginger when you want to make it sweet! On it's own it's too dry, but in a mix it can be very syrupy making it great in a candy or a ginger syrup based beverage. I used it with cactus in Gingotar and CAP Hibiscus in Soulsucker I think it could work in a bakery too with its inherent sweetness, though I have not tried it.
NF Ginger Love this stuff! It's very clean tasting. It's versatile. It works just about anywhere you want ginger. I like it in beverage vapes. I have been playing with it in other recipes I haven't released yet. FLV is the tastiest ginger in my opinion, but NF is so versatile I would say get this one if you only want to buy one ginger. Though what kind of sick person could ever be satisfied with one ginger? In a thread a few months back someone (sorry I don't remeber who) said they made Ardent with NF instead of FLV and it was awesome.
FW Ginger When I used this in a mix it turned the mix from candy or nectar into straight gingerale. However it does not taste like gingerale solo. It's got some sweet and it's got some spice but is overall pretty lackluster. But if my goal was a gingerale based vape I would definitely throw this in (low <2%) with something like FLV or NF to support it.
VT Ginger Root I just tried it for the first time tonight and it is fantastic! It's got the bite that every other ginger I have used lacks. At least to the degree I want it! Other gingers DO have a little spice as I've already noted. But real ginger, when you eat it, bites you back! This one does that. And it hits you in the same spot as real ginger. I can't wait to play with this!
FE Ginger Rarely in stock. Definitely NOT worth the wait. Someone put some grass and tea leaves in a juicer and called it ginger flavor. Give this one a skip!
I hope you all enjoy some of these recipes. If you are looking for something a little bit different in your recipes, try some ginger. Don't be skurred! It's a unique flavor and fun to get creative with.
I love ginger flavored drinks and been wanting to recreate it in e liquid. Thank you for the detailed write up on the different ginger flavorings! Btw how much flv ginger should I use if I want to try it solo?
You're welcome. Yay for having another ginger lover out there!
I would try it at 1.5%. That's the sweet spot for me. So far I have not tried it solo at other percentages.
Hey! I finally had some time so I made a very small batch (10ml) and tried out 1.5ml like you said! It was nice but I felt like it could use a little bit of boost so I tinkered a bit and came up with something I liked a little bit better:
1.5% FLV ginger, 1% TFA dragonfruit, 1% FA lime Tahiti cold pressed, 1% TFA marshmallow, 1% TFA sweet tea, 1% PUR ws-3.
For me the FLV ginger felt a bit floral so I added sweet tea for some earthiness and I think it helps to add a bit of weight to the ginger. I’m a big fan of the icy mouthfeel and the koolada feels like it accentuates the spiciness which I love. I would like to add a bit of weighty sweetness to the recipe, though. Like an asian persimmon.
I bought a bottle of FLV Ginger to use for the Longing Remix, Ardent. I didn't really like how it made everything taste like Orange Chicken. I don't even like Orange Chicken.
Could it be I just don't like ginger? Any other suggestions for this flavor? Maybe in something bakery to make like a ginger bread cookie?
Edit: Link to recipe
It is odd how that recipe tastes like floral orange. I dig it, but obviously it's not for everyone. I don't get any chicken out of it lol.
If you're looking for a use for FLV Ginger, this one looks good: https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/62195#ginger_beer_by_kopel
I should have been more clear, the chicken part isn't in the flavor profile. It just very heavily reminded me of Orange Chicken. I believe it's the floral orange bit along with the ginger. I'll check out that recipe though, thanks.
Maybe I can come up with some way to use it as an additive with a floral or orange citrus mix. But I have no experience with either of those profiles.
That looks yummy. Minus the ginger. lol
I didn't even know ginger flavour was a thing. I would imagine it to be pretty throaty but it could it open the doors to some interesting recipes. Ginger, lime, coconut...you're not that far off a Thai curry. Is garlic a thing in flavour concentrates?
Yes, garlic is a thing. OoO has one and it's pretty authentic.
I've been working on a Thai Curry using those ingredients plus peanut butter and a few other things.
Not only is straight up ginger flavor a thing, there's also ginger ale, ginger beer, ginger snaps, and of course gingerbread.
Wow that's amazing. I look forward to seeing what you come up with for the curry. I can't imagine vaping something like that but it's super interesting.
I didn't even think of those ginger profiles, I'm reasonably in to cooking so savoury is where my mind first went. Ginger ale/beer and bread would be lovely though.
I have used FW stag leaf to add a ginger note to apple cream mixes around 1-2%. on its own in low percentage this flavour is very ginger and goes a long way.
Where did you pick up FW Stag Leaf, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before?
I'm in Australia and got it from a company called vaporeyes , www.vaporeyes.com.au. I found it difficult at first to mix it with but I love it in this mix. Fa Fuji 3% Fa fresh cream 3% TFA pear 5% Fw stag leaf tobacco 1.5% Would love to know what you think if you manage to find some
Just checked atf... seems so far only one mixer uses vt ginger root. Not sure if /u/mechmodrn would be active here or not... would be nice to know if it's a better choice than trying to track down NF Ginger. (Jamaican Ginger Beer has a good spicy bite to it that I think HS and FLV likely are not sufficient for. Also, since it will need fizzy sherbet anyhow...)
Smells like actual ginger root but you know smells can be deceiving. Give me a few days to get back to you on that.
Where would you order VT from to get it in Canada? Chef's, BCF, or direct from down under?
Chef's. /u/thebrokevaper mentioned he was supposed to be picking up some of the line, if the ginger is good he'd probably go for it. And diy-ejuice.com carries a bunch of vt now, if nobody else works. Assuming they have any in stock, and their site is properly linked to their inventory DB.
