Perfumey Taste?
submitted about 7 years ago by Depressing_lasershow

Does anyone else get a very flowery/perfumey taste from CAP Blueberry Jam? I’ve mixed it with a few different flavors and it seems to stand out really bad. Any suggestions for a better blueberry flavor?

Been a few years since I've had it but I would go for days vaping only 2% FA Bilberry solo, but it's got a tart, deep flavor going on with some distinct floral notes, based on what you've said that might not be your thing. If you're wanting a more mild, sweet blueberry, I'd suggest cutting that down to 1% and adding in 4% TPA Blueberry Extra.

Also I can't remember for sure and not about to search for it right this minute but I think it was /u/EdibleMalfunction that posted a mix of a few different blueberries a while back that looked really good.

Hope this helps!

Edit just refreshed and saw /u/leapinglabrats linked the mix above

  • TFA Blueberry Extra 3%

  • FW Blueberry 2%

  • FA Bilberry 0.5%

  • FA Lemon Sicily 0.5%

I pretty much always use this, but inw lemon mix at 0.25% instead of fa lemon Sicily. If I'm feeling a candy vibe I swap the bilberry for hs blueberry at the same %. Good stuff.

Mmmm HS blueberry is the best for candy profiles!

Using too much of a concentrate can easily make it floral or perfumey, you'll find this in a lot of fruity flavors. If you notice this, dial it down, cut it in half even. Some are intentionally floral though, even used right.

My preferred blueberry is 3% TFA Blueberry Wild with 0.5% FA Bilberry, especially with some other dark berry involved to round it off, such as (INW/MB) blackcurrant or blackberry.

Eddie's Blueberry Trinity is highly praised, but it's more of a candy blueberry in my opinion.

Thanks, I didn’t think I was using a lot, only 4-5%, but I’ll try dialing it back. I guess I’ll just order some other blueberrys as well.

It doesn't sound high for CAP, but doing some digging, it sounds like you should start around 1-2% and work your way up. 3% seems to be the highest many will go with it. Some describe it as medicinal and strong, even used low.

Having more than one version of a flavor is usually necessary to get a decent representation, as you can tell from the combos I listed above. That holds true for a lot of flavors.

I appreciate the input, I’ll start low and work higher as you suggested next time. Back to the drawing board I suppose!

I mix it in a donut recipe and it stands out pretty well at a meager 1%

Yes...I do. I tried different %'s of the flavor and different VG %'s, mixed with other flavors, short and long steeps, etc and I finally quit wasting my time. No matter what I tried was a fail. There are a few other flavors that no matter how I mix them, I can't vape them. FA Joy comes to mind. I always get a stale beer taste from it. Another is the CAPs doughnut flavors. I get an unsalted play-doh taste from those no matter how I use them.

I found the same but I love the jammy part of it's profile so I looked for a flavour to mask out the floral/shitty bit. The best antidote is FA Lemon Sicily. Use it sparingly and it just covers the funky end of the bb jam spectrum without overpowering with lemon.

I feel like some flavors that suffer from that deficit will straighten up after an hour or two of sitting open on a shelf. Might be worth a try.

I used up all the flavoring trying different combos at this point. I opened all the bottles to try let them air so I guess I will see if that helps at all. If not I just won’t be buying it again.

Sorry, I meant to be more clear. Yes, airing after mixing is the solution, I think.

Thanks! I’m giving that a shot right now. I hope that fixes it, since everything tasted fine besides that.
