Throwback Thursday: Abbreviations
submitted about 7 years ago by ID10-TWinner of the 2nd DIYorDIE World Mixing Championship

This is part of project I agreed to take on after it was pointed out that so many of the resources in sidebar and wiki are ancient. The idea is, rather than revising them myself, I'd post them here once per week to gather feedback on how to improve them. They belong to all of us, everyone should have a say in what they say.

This week, we have an easy one. It also isn't that old; Apexified updated it just one month ago. However, he did it all by himself, I'm asking for your help to see if we've overlooked something. It's common abbreviations page in the Beginner's Guide and here is it's content:

Common abbreviations you might see in the DIY_eJuice subreddit:

The list as presented is good for looking up something you don't know - because the terms are alphabetical. But when looking for what's missing, I think they should be arranged a little differently. How about this?

|This|Means|Category| |---|---|---| |BCF|Bull City Flavors|DIY Supplier| |Chefs|Chefs Flavours UK|DIY Supplier| |DIYFS|DIY Flavorshack|DIY Supplier| |DIYVS|DIY Vapor Supply|DIY Supplier| |ECX|ECigExpress|DIY Supplier| |HLV|Heartland Vapes|DIY Supplier| |NN|Nude Nicotine|DIY Supplier| |NR|Nicotine River|DIY Supplier| |VZ|Vaping Zone|DIY Supplier| |WL|Wizard Labs|DIY Supplier| |OSDIYS|One Stop DIY Shop|DIY Supplier & Flavor MFG| |CAP|Capella|Flavor MFG| |FA|Flavour Art|Flavor MFG| |FE|Flavor Express|Flavor MFG| |FLV|Flavorah|Flavor MFG| |FM|Flavor Monks|Flavor MFG| |FW|Flavor West|Flavor MFG| |HS|Hangsen|Flavor MFG| |INW|Inawera|Flavor MFG| |JF|Jungle Flavors|Flavor MFG| |LA|LorAnn Oils|Flavor MFG| |MF|Medicine Flower|Flavor MFG| |NF|Nature's Flavors|Flavor MFG| |PUR|Purilum|Flavor MFG| |RF|Real Flavors|Flavor MFG| |SC|Super Concentrated|Flavor MFG| |TFA|The Flavor Apprentice (AKA TPA)|Flavor MFG| |TPA|The Perfumer's Apprentice (AKA TFA)|Flavor MFG| |VTA|Vape Train Australia|Flavor MFG| |WF|Wonder Flavors|Flavor MFG| |AP|Acetyl Pyrazine (provides bready flavor)|Ingredient| |EM|Ethyl Maltol (typically a 10% solution)|Ingredient| |NET|Naturally Extracted Tobacco|Ingredient| |Nic|Nicotine|Ingredient| |PG|Propylene Glycol (a mixing base)|Ingredient| |PDO|1,3-Propanediol (PG Alternative)|Ingredient| |SS|Super Sweet (Sweetener)|Ingredient| |TA|Tobacco Absolute|Ingredient| |VG|Vegetable Glycerin (a mixing base)|Ingredient| |VT|VapersTek|Nicotine Supplier| |ATF|All The Flavors|Recipe Sharing/Calculator| |ELR|E-Liquid Recipes|Recipe Sharing/Calculator| |DOD|DIY or DIE|Resource| |ECF|E-Cigarette-Forum|Resource| |VU|Vaping Underground|Resource| |SFT|Single Flavor Test|Terminology| |SG|Specific Gravity|Terminology|

The first thing that I see missing (cuz it had me scratching my head for a while - hehehe) is SNV = Shake and Vape.

PEG - Polyethylene Glycol... another PG alternative.

DX - flavor prefix meaning DO NOT BUY (except when used in conjunction with PB)

ADV = All day vape

EF= Euro Flavor

It’s been getting a little confusing lately because Seedman used to be SM, but now there’s Stixx Mixx, and they are both mostly tobaccos. Probably hasn’t been confusing too many people, but it has for me.

GF= German Flavors (Vapers Tek exclusive, and speaking of them, they’re a DIY Supplier/Nicotine Supplier)

FR= Flavor Revolution

DNB= Dirty Neutral Base, though that can be a bit tricky too. There’s a premixed Base that INW sells that already has DNB added in, and you just use it like you would PG or a Nicotine Base. Then they have “DNB Flavor” in the Wera Garden line. So really, everyone is using DNB in recipes, not Dirty Neutral Base. Good ol’ INW confusion.

RY4D= RY4 Double. Probably not actually confusing, but could be good to know for a beginner.

I’ve seen the INW “for Pipe” flavors shortened to B4P and D4P and so on, but maybe not enough to get mentioned.

MB= Molinberry

Some sites list Inawera as INA or IW

HC= Health Cabin

LB= Liquid Barn

WTA= Whole Tobacco Alkaloid

The DNB would definitely be helpful, since it's actually sold on BCF (possibly others) as DNB. I remember looking for it searching "Dirty" or "Neutral". Didn't finally find it until I was browsing INW flavors one day.

Cap V1 or just V1 = Capella's Vanilla Custard V1

VBIC= Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

CCI= LorAnn's Cream Cheese Icing

AiV= Alice In Vapeland (Flavors)

Great list! The first one missing that comes to mind is VBIC. That one confused me a bit back when I was a newer mixer. Most of them I can figure out through context but some flavor abbreviations are tricky for me unless I already have the flavor.

Edit: SNV - shake & vape

So, you know which of these:
VCV1
CCI
NYCC
CGC
DX PB
?

All of the above I have in my collection, except DX PB. Somehow I mucked it up way back when and ordered the original version. Only ever used it once so I'm not sure what the difference is between the two.

But yes, the flavors you listed above are common enough in recipes that I think new mixers could benefit from having them listed somewhere. Even if separate from the main list. After reading through some recipes, most of us can probably figure out that GCC is Graham Cracker Clear. Though the more tech-oriented of us may confuse it for the GNU C Compiler. I remember CCI gave me some trouble at first until I realized it was a LA flavor.

No, that would be gcc

And I didn't list GCC. I just went with ones I remembered... and since I might have one of those in my collection I think I did pretty well.

VW vapewild. Some of their DIY flavors are definitely legit especially wild custard and lemonade are delicious

by EdibleMalfunctionabout 7 years agoMixologist

Their flavors are just rebranded FW and TFA. They do not make their own flavors.

They are also not a recommended vendor. They’ve done some shady shit in the past.

So to just clear this up, we don't make our own flavorings in the sense that we are doing the whole manufacturing process. We make e juice and we would rather use someone that has reliable and great quality when it comes to flavorings that we use. This does not mean we are just reselling other brands with VapeWild labels, we personally mix and create a proprietary blend that we use. As for Shady stuff, oxidized nicotine is bad and we're happy to fix it when we're in the wrong, we kinda learned the hard way on that one. However, after plenty of training and changes our Customer service is always happy to communicate to the capacity that we can about DIY products (which by the way its 99.7% nicotine suspended in VG 100mg/mL but you probably already knew that).

I mean, good on you guys for fixing it, but jumping into the DIY game without having proper knowledge available to your consumers on your website, nor through customer service when the products became available painted you guys in a very bad light. Not only was it hazardous to the people buying from you who had no experience in DIY, but it also carried a message that seemed like you guys didn't take the DIY community seriously, hence the rapid and vitriolic reaction to your products that many of us carry to this day.

If you continue improving, I imagine those of us in the "old guard" will be drowned out and forced to re-evaluate our viewpoint on you, but first impressions are everything, and the first impression your company gave us felt very disrespectful towards a hobby that we have spent both years of our lives and thousands of dollars on.

I've been ordering pg nicotine and VG from them for at least 7 months with zero problems and ordered juice from them for way longer and the only mess ups I've ever experienced was when they just sente a whole mod instead of the doors I ordered and how they always give me free juice every order lmao guess that's what u mean by shady but I'll take delicious free juice any day u can call me shady 🤣

by EdibleMalfunctionabout 7 years agoMixologist

They were selling brown nic claiming that’s how it was supposed to be. They claimed 100 mg Nic was pure nic, not suspended in PG or VG. They botched a giveaway they made for DIY.

Taste is of course, subjective, but their juice is basic as shit. They are nothing special. Just because they give free samples doesn’t mean they are a good company.

Curious if you actually know for a fact they have rebranded flavors? I can't seem to find anything that backs that up and I haven't had any flavors that tas5w like theirs and I've had a lot of custards and none taste like the wild custard or mild custard for that matter.. Curious where u heard /read it.. Mainly because of that's true i would like to see the list at what flavors they are so I can order on bull city also when I'm not ordering from Vapewild

Most of their juice’s names don’t deviate from the flavor names. Most of their stuff is just single flavor FW, much like MBV. You can search for all of this stuff. I’m not pulling it out of my ass

2 points

by lNTERLINKEDabout 7 years agoI did not ask for this flair.

Might be good to add the Chef's specific name changes.

The ones I know of:

  • Lauren's Flavours = LorAnn
  • Xpress Flavour = Flavor Express
  • Flavour Creative = FlavourArt rebrand

We might have to do a separate list for explaining what rebranded stuff is.

DAAP, EtOH, and I'm not sure if dikes should be endorsed as an abbreviation for diketones or not.

And can we have a list of crazy alternate named flavors? I can’t even remember off the top of my head (at the beach yay!) but there’s a few. I remember being like, “is this the same as...?” Several times in the beginning.

You mean rebranded flavors?

by isuamadogabout 7 years ago

Idk maybe it’s just me but I remember being confused by some of the names. Maybe it was the inw ones that were in polish or whatever. Maybe I get confused easily now that I’m over the hill. Meh, ignore me.

Oh, ok, now I know what you mean. Flavourart has a few confusing names too.

Just a suggestion but maybe they should be included there are a few recipes w them I believe...😬. But, great job to u and Apex and thx for all the hard work!
