Hangsen French vanilla ice cream smells like rotten eggs with a hint of sneaker. What am I doing wrong?
submitted about 7 years ago by eggsaladsandwichhead

It's supposed to be amazing, according to all the reviews so obviously I did something wrong in mixing up SF tester. I mixed it at 0.4%, 1%, & 2%. No nic. 70/30.
I'm scared to vape any of the testers based on how putrid they smell. I believe the flavor review posted here used 0.4% and raved about it.
Does it taste way different than it smells?
Did I get a bad bottle? (Bought Feb 2018 from NicRiver- never had a problem with any item from them ever so I kind of doubt it's their fault).
Did I mix the wrong %?
Help... I want to love this flavor as much as I love the other Hangsen creams, which are phenomenal.
Thanks!

It’s not a flavor that works for me either.. Some peeps are just sensitive to some flavors.. I’m using mine one drop at a time lol ..

I don't have the flavor but maybe it needs time for a steep? how long did you steep it and does it smell the same in the flavoring bottle? how does it taste on the back of your hand?

I let it steep for 2 months, checking occasionally. Not much change. I haven't tasted it on my hand but the bottle smells the same, just stronger.

It smelled odd to me as well. Not quite that bad but definitely weird. I got some as a free sample from bullcityflavors. It Vaped perfectly fine though, no issues

It tastes like astronaut ice cream to me. When I was a kid I tried it. Its freeze dried ice cream. Thats what it tastes like.

HS French Vanilla Ice Cream is really best used low (0.5% or under) to boost and bring richness to other dairy/ice creams/vanillas. Usually what you'll see is 4-5% of some other VBIC (LB, TFA, CAP) and 0.5% HS FVIC.

I like to use it when the vanilla or cream I'm working towards is feeling a bit thin and needs more milkfat/egginess. It's more subtle than say CAP VC v1 which is what a lot of people throw at it instead.

Even at low percentages (0.25%- 0.50%), I can't stand it. It has a horrible musky, toe fungus taste. Overrated flavour IMO. HS Italian Cream is great in cheesecakes though.

I don't keep up with it so much anymore but a couple years back most all the flavor companies switched to using butyric acid in their buttery/creamy flavors due to the diacetyl (Popcorn lung) scare going around. The stuff is actually used to make stink bombs. This sounds exactly like what you are describing. It's supposed to actually taste pleasant if you use it in extremely small amounts but even then I could never vape the stuff because I am apparently very sensitive to the smell and it always made me want to puke.

I use HS FVIC at like, 2 drops per 30ml in recipes. It's SUPER potent, and it overtakes everything else if it's used high (and by high, I mean >0.25%). But when used sparingly, it's a delicious addition to any recipe. It adds some really nice vanilla notes and a whole mess of thick creaminess.

If you don't like using shit in drops, I'd suggest just making a dilution of the concentrate that you can then mix more conventionally with.
