What are some old but classic recipes?
submitted about 7 years ago by ece_guy

I've been thinking that while we get amazing new recipes all the time that push the envelope of what's possible, or incorporating newer flavors, there doesn't seem to be one good list on here with some of the good old stuff.

What older recipes are there that you're still mixing?

Edit: Also, I'm on mobile right now and can probably post a few recipes I can think of later. But I was thinking we could maybe get a collection of recipes going, and then make a sidebar worthy thread later with nicely organised recipes.

Check out this list of Clones. Old but gold.

Bear in mind that some of these can be toned down percentage wise for modern devices. I see a lot of 20% or 30% flavorings that were great for the above ohm low wattage vaping of the past but won't translate all that well to modern subohm vaping.

Won’t some of those recipes be good for the pod systems now that need the extra flavor?

Only the simplest ones, but probably yes.

1 points

by RockyHarlowabout 7 years ago

That is true, some are fairly dated though and even pods have a little more flavor capability than the old egos did. I would try the mixes at about half of the reccomended ranges to ensure you're not wasting flavorings. If you plan to mix any of these on a subohm device you can likely cut the percentages back on most of them though.

Edit: but on a pod system I would shoot for no more than 2 or 3 flavors not including sweetener or coolants. Complexity and subtleties you taste on an RDA or subohm tank are not going to be there in a pod.

Awesome list, can't believe I haven't seen this before.

I had the same reaction and instantly bookmarked this.

Even if some aren’t completely refined they’re pretty good starting points to use as a basis to get close to the real thing. Along with HiC’s list these are truly oldies but goodies.

Whatever you do don't go to the French site full of clones. That site lost a bit of heat but used to be very popular, however 90% are junk.

Pretty sure that was a premix concentrate recipe, for use in other recipes.

Or a sick joke.

You mentioned the word 'joke'. Chuck Norris doesn't joke. Here is a fact about Chuck Norris:

>Behind every successful man, there is a woman. Behind every dead man, there is Chuck Norris.

I got this recipe from a thread here a long time ago, but I didn't save it. Therefore I, unfortunately, can't credit the original creator, but here it is:

KKM| percentage ---|--- Kiwi (FA)| 4% Kentucky Bourbon (TFA) | 2% Toasted Marshmallow (TFA)| 2%

It's a great ADV, which is awesome both as a shake'n'vape and after a few days of steeping.

If you s'n'v it, the Kiwi flavour is pretty dominant. After about 3 days of steeping, the Bourbon and smokey Marshmallow facets really balance the whole recipe.

That's /u/coop34 s recipe. https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/21614

For those of you who never tried it, it's a quite mellow taste, don't expect anything overpowering, a really good and simple recipe either way that I would also recommend.

Thx! I prefer this over KB. Either way it's another simple recipe worth mentioning.

Anything by HIC. Most of his older juices on a MTL device blows away 85% of the recipies I've tried on this sub in the last 3 years. The guy has talent, but some of the older juices don't transfer perfectly to sub-ohm devices.

The older DIYorDie recipies I would call historic, but Wayne and his team do so much better now, I'd stick to their new stuff (ranging late 2016+).

Oohhh are you referring to this?

by TheMostSolidOfSnakesabout 7 years agoDiketones, Schmiketones

Yup. Flavor is subjective, but this guy's stuff typically stands above most.

Man he sells his recipes :/ I'm not saying or demanding them to be for free, but when even the free ones are hit-or-miss, it's a tough sell to fork out 3 USD for a recipe. :s

I've been looking for some good mixes for my new kayfun. Basically everything here sounds perfect.

Edit: some of the clones are a bit scary. It seems the average is ~25% total flavouring

2 points

by DarkJester89about 7 years agoThe Clone-y Professor

that was when coils were really small and the power output was really weak so you had to throw a lot of flavor at it to get a small amount out. Through tech upgrades, you can turn something that was average of 25% or higher down to like 5% and it still be good. If its a strong concern, you could easily half the % as a starting point

1 points

by TheMostSolidOfSnakesabout 7 years agoDiketones, Schmiketones

That's the way juice used to be. Small clouds, how heat, high flavor.

1 points

by benphillips_about 7 years ago

That sounds similar to the current pod systems

blueberry trifecta by ediblemalfunction

**TFA Blueberry Extra 3.0 %

**FW Blueberry 2.0 %

**FA Bilberry 0.5 %

brighten the berries up a bit by adding a half percent of either CAP Italian Lemon Sicily or FA Lemon Sicily.

Great by itself and great as a base for a blueberry recipe. Off the top of my head I think it would go great with something like CAP Vanilla Custard.

Surprised no one has mentioned Mustard Milk. Not a big fan of it myself but it's been my emergency juice for a while in case I run out when I'm out and I enjoy a tankful now and then.

3 points

by JohannesVanDerWhalesabout 7 years ago

I'm guessing because a lot of people have issues with TFA Strawberry. Whenever I mix anything with it I'll occasionally just have the strawberry flavor turn off and I can't taste it anymore. So I migrated over to things that use the "holy trinity" of strawberry instead.

2 points

by ece_guyabout 7 years ago

Actually, for me it was one of the first recipes I've mixed, and the problem wasn't the Strawberry. It was the VBIC.

All I could taste from that was black pepper, which I still vividly remember. I was super disappointed, but I still use VBIC in mixes to this day, just at a much lower percentage and I don't get that problem at all.

1 points

by JohannesVanDerWhalesabout 7 years ago

Ah, that's unfortunate since it's such a common ingredient. Have you tried HS French Vanilla Ice Cream? Not quite the same but I like it.

1 points

by berfmabout 7 years ago

whats the holy trinity?

6 points

by JohannesVanDerWhalesabout 7 years ago

Shisha Strawberry - 3%, Red Touch 2%, JF Sweet Strawberry - 1.5%, as seen here. I've had much better luck with those than TFA Strawberry/Ripe Strawberry.

1 points

by ece_guyabout 7 years ago

I'm gonna go ahead and guess a mix of TFA Strawberry, TFA Strawberry Ripe and CAP Sweet Strawberry. I'm not sure about the ratio though.

1 points

by dontpanic4242about 7 years ago

I don't remember which flavor I had trouble with on Mustard milk but I do remember it fading pretty hard on me. Or I may have just gotten burnt out on the mix halfway through the bottle. Still a great, simple recipe for making up in a pinch.

not ashamed to say, well, maybe a little bit ashamed but anyway, i still mix a batch of nana cream every now and then

1 points

by ece_guyabout 7 years ago

Why would you be ashamed? Also, with our without citric acid?

1 points

by gardvarabout 7 years ago

it's so basic :P

also it was sort of hated on by a lot of people for a while.

I usually make it with citric iirc

Beetlejuice by Nicoticket (Raspberry, Strawberry, Mango) http://tjek.nu/r/cQA5

Time Bomb by TNT (Strawberry,Peach, Apple) http://tjek.nu/r/3k7w

Pitch Black Mt Dew (Grape MT Dew) http://tjek.nu/r/2k1Q

Kryptonite (Watermelon and Canteloupe) http://tjek.nu/r/2dGX

HIC, Smoky Blue, Arnie, LadyRed, AmandaD, some of the older mixers on UC and ECF, but if they didn't make the recipe themselves, they could usually find it somewhere or at least put you in the general ballpark.

I think Rhodonite by ELaw is getting classic now.. Grack Juice, all the Strap on...;)

1 points

by ece_guyabout 7 years ago

Something about Wayne's recipes are always off for me. I mixed a lot of his recipes and I think the only one I mixed more than once was the Bronuts.

I mixed Rhodonite and it just didn't taste good to me at all. I thought it might be that one or more of my flavors were off, I even bought at some point the one shot version of Rhodonite because it was so hyped all around. Nope, same taste, just didn't do it for me at all.

Personally the worst offender for me was Funfetti. Same deal, bought the one shot for that as well making it from scratch. It just tasted vile for me. Might be the FA Joy but I'm not sure anymore, it's been quite a while.

Not saying they are bad recipes, with tastes being subjective and all, but somehow his recipes just don't do it for me at all.

Same! Right down to Bronuts being the only one I tried more than once. I might give Rhodonite another try since I have all the ingredients and I'm not buying any new ones for awhile.

My adv right now, and one of the only recipes from Wayne that I've really enjoyed, is his Misty recipe. Really juicy, vibrant berry flavor. Throw in .5% WS-23 and you've got a cool, refreshing berry flavored juice box in vape form. FLV Boysenberry ftw

Gambit.

Seriously, it's just a great all-around mix. Probably one of the first to get cloned (aside from maybe Mother's Milk.)
