Strange effect from FA Zeppola (flavor completely disappearing from the exhale)
submitted about 7 years ago by jersey_emtYellow Cake Apologist

I needed more VG and bottles, and the price plus shipping was only ~$10 less than the threshold for free shipping from the vendor, so I decided to pick up a few small bottles of flavors I had my eye on but never pulled the trigger. One of these was FA Zeppola.

I mixed up a tester at 3.5% and gave it a vape. On the inhale, I got a surprisingly accurate powdered sugar taste, with some cake/dough notes slowly building up. (I put "cake/dough" because the flavor I am getting is too "cakey" to be considered "dough", and too "doughy" to be considered "cake", if that makes any sense at all.)

Once inhaled, the powdered sugar taste remained strong, and the cake/dough became more prominent. It has a very dry mouthfeel, something that I have not gotten from any other flavor I've tried (at least not anywhere near this level). It's sort of like the drying effect of the tannins in red wine, but without the astringency.

But the really weird thing is what happens to me on the exhale. There are a few exceptions, but usually for me, I taste the strongest flavor of recipes and flavorings during the exhale, and because of this, what I got on the inhale from FA Zeppola really excited me – I was expecting a delicious powdered doughnut flavor on the exhale.

But I got nothing. Absolutely nothing. As soon as I started the exhale, all of the flavor instantly disappeared. Not reduced, not mellowed out, just completely gone.

Never have I experienced anything like this before. It really is a rather strange effect, and it confuses the hell out of me. I can't think of any reason why a flavoring would even do such a thing.

I re-read some reviews for FA Zeppola, and did not see this mentioned anywhere. Has anyone else gotten this rather strange effect from this flavoring?

EDIT: Now this is bizarre. If I hold the vapor in my mouth, the flavor persists, albeit reduced in intensity. If I exhale a portion, the flavor instantly disappears, but if I stop exhaling before releasing the entire amount, the flavor instantly comes back. If I exhale little puffs at a time, I can make the flavor turn on and off. Weird.

Yes, I know that I need to let it steep, but this "flavor lightswitch" thing I'm getting from my freshly-mixed FA Zeppola tester is pretty wack.

I've definitely experienced a similar thing with FA Zeppola, but the effect disappeared after about a 1 week steep. First few days of my SFT notes on it are just "powdered sugar inhale. Nothing else." How long have you steeped it?

Steeping time was maybe 10 seconds when I first tried it. I'm still getting the same effect now, but it's only been two days so far.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one who gets this rather bizarre effect, and that steeping will get rid of it.

Thanks!

You really need to give FA Zeppola a good 10-days steep for it to reach it's full flavor potential.

Not related to zeppola, but I mixed up A+ Dulce from ELR that used Stixx Mixx's A+ blend. Amazing dulce de leche smell. On the inhale, slightly sweet but tasty dulce de leche. On the exhale, no dulce de leche at all, but instead the cigarette/tobacco flavor. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Let it steep.
