easy menthol ejuice?
submitted over 7 years ago by canadevil

I have been pouring over video's on youtube and looking at recipes but almost all of the recipes I found were for a concentrate. I am not a DIY person but with the amount of menthol ejuice I use I thought i might make my own.

I usually by menthol ejuice and then mix it 50/50 with other ejuices because I prefer everything to have a strong menthol flavour/blast.

What i was planning was making 120 ml at a time, so put 60ML PG in a cup in warm water, add about a 1/4 teaspoon crushed menthol crystal ( this is the measurement I am not sure of so less or more? ) let it dissolve and then add 60ML VG, put into a bottle in shake.

Should this be pretty much what the stores sell?

Or... buy a bottle of menthol flavoring and add to the juice you buy that needs an extra kick or no menthol at all. I'm unsure of menthol crystals. I would be interested in knowing exactly the way to make it EXACTLY like the menthol flavoring I buy.

Copying a useful comment from u/Lulzorr

You'll need to make a solution out of the menthol crystals you'll have to mix it in PG, VG doesn't like pure menthol.

1g/10ml = 10% so for a 30ml mixture crush up 3g and dissolve in 30ml of PG. 10% is strong. like Halls cough drop strong. my mixture is 3:1 and I use it by the drop.

To dissolve it just get a bowl of warm/hot but not boiling water, shake the bottle, and let it sit in the bath for a while. turn in here and there and shake when you feel like it. If it separates just repeat the hot water bath.

more info:

>Solubility in Propylene Glycol is up to 50% and solubility in alcohol is greater than 100%. Recommended usage is a 10% solution consisting of 1 gram menthol crystals to 10ml Propylene Glycol or Ethyl Alcohol. Use the 10% solution as you would any other concentrated flavoring.

Close. Mixing a solution needs to account for the volume/mass of the solute as well, so you’d want 1 gram of crystals and 9 grams of PG/VG to get a 10% solution (10 grams total)

I sometimes like to vape it just on it's own plus it also extends the amount of flavoured ejuice I use.

I did buy some koolada a while ago and tried adding a few drops to different flavors but I didn't really like it.

Koolada is just the cooling effect without the menthol, that's probably why:)

I am a fan of inawera mix mint. I also picked up the frost last time. It’s more like an ice chewing gum flavor. Either way they are easy and taste good to me. Also mix well with other flavors. DIY nana and diy placid with a couple drops in the tank are great.

I've been vaping menthol only forever and this has been my recipe for the past year +

TFA Menthol 4% TFA Koolada 5% 80PG / 20VG 3mg Nic

I make around 2000ml at a time. it's a pretty clean and strong menthol. you can adjust the percentages as you see fit.

I recently made a juice for a coworker that wanted a simple menthol by mixing 1% menthol, 3% peppermint (both TFA) at 50/50. I found that recipe searching around here a while back, he enjoyed it a lot, said it’s better than the stuff in-store.

Sounds quite strong to me. I make my "base" in 10 ml dropper bottles. Fill with crystals 3/4, then top off with PG. Cap and run under warm water while shaking. Two droppers will flavor 240 ml juice.

I highly suggest doing as others said in this thread.

But also, the beauty of DIY is that you can mix to your own taste.

Try out making a 10% menthol solution, add it to another juice by the drop, or even, make a batch of plain pg/vg+ some nic and just add menthol to your tank drop by drop till it is how strong you like it, from there you can try to work out the math and figure out what you like, or just kinda wing it, worst case you have to toss a bit of pg/vg with some menthol in it.

experiment, have fun!

half the time when I am mixing I just kinda wing it, I have made a LOT of juice over the last 4-5 years, so I kinda have an idea of what % of different flavors i add to different recipes over the years so sometimes i just go to my mixing station and add this and that and see what i like.

Good Luck

Store recipes are basic of menthol, or koolada, maybe even extreme ice or polar blast, but I doubt they are using the bit more recent coolers like ws-23 or the different categories. flavors like spearmint or etc might pose to be a financial waste because you would have to use so much of the flavor to balance that against a different agent, so its probably just menthol.

Menthol 3-6% Koolada (which is about twice as strong as menthol) 1.5-3%

You can buy premixed cooling agents if you don't want to do the crystals dilution.

Okay, all the videos i saw were making the concentrate out of crystals I guess I was just skipping that step by diluting the crystals directly into 120ML

So if I went with the concentrate I would do 56ml PG 56ml VG and 8ML menthol concentrate ( more or less depending on what strength I like)

Does that sound right?

Depends on how much you really like menthol. Some folks go 1:1 (strong), some go 5:1, or 10:1, ml/gram

if this is a first time mix for you, try making it in smaller batches to make sure you don't run into a "I have 120ml of un-useable additive"

start at like 10

10ml of pg and 1 gram of crystals

Close. You need to account for the weight/mass of the menthol as well. What you’re describing would be more lik a 9% solution. Which is ok, just not as strong as a 10% one.

If you want to make 10% solution mix 10 grams of menthol crystals into 90 grams of VG/PG.

If you have menthol crystals, do this: fill up a 10ml bottle with menthol crystals, then fill the same bottle with PG. Cap it, place it in hot water for a few minutes, and shake it up. When the crystals are all dissolved, you have concentrated menthol solution. Add a few drops to any of your favorite ejuice recipes, to taste.

I highly recommend getting into diy, get a beaker and it's so easy and so much cheaper. I made 120 ml of lemon cheese cake for like a dollar. I started out with just menthol my self and relised how easy it was. Diy seemed so daunting from the out side, but it's alot easier than it sounds. For a 120 ml bottle you fill a beaker to 3.6 ml menthol for 3 percentent menthol and 10 ml of 36 g nic for 6 percent nicotine throw it in your bottle fill the rest with your vg pg ratio that comes premixed and steep. Simple easy as pie.
