Happy Vaping!
Lots of things!
Right now, this second, I'm at the office and that means the dinky lil pod dealie which is currently loaded with a mint-tobacco mix of my own creation. I'm not ready to share a recipe, but I think I'm getting there. /u/Apexifed has asked me to write an FAQ Friday article about salt nic and pod vapes and I think that's a ridiculous request since I really don't know jack about the topic and it'll result in a lot of questions I don't know the answer to and make me look like a dummy. But I think after messing with these for a bit there is at least one tip I can share: Keep it simple. Two, three flavors max. Four to five only if one or two are sweeteners or coolants.
I finished off a bottle of the soon-to-be-released Chef's Flavours one-shot "Karl's Custard" by /u/Shyndo and now I'm sad because I don't have anything else mixed up that will scratch that rich nutty itch.
Went through a couple of Mixers' Club samples and found Smokin' Hibiscus by /u/Ebc88 to be fantastic. I also learned that I'm not a fan of INW Wild Rose Tobacco thanks to ChemicalBurnVictim, who used it with a base that I'd like to see find a different top note. I like florals, like the hibiscus in Smokin' Hibiscus, but INW Wild Rose Tobacco falls a bit too far on the air freshener/perfume side of florals for me.
Monday night I tried to kill myself with coolants and menthols, by spending an hour trying a dozen of them at 5% each. Obviously I didn't succeed, but for those interested in the effects of coolant and menthol overdose: I really just thought it might be painfully cold, maybe cause a headache. It did cause a headache, kind of like someone pinching the bridge of my nose really hard. No sore throat. The nausea was an unexpected side effect for me but it was very real. Also there was a tightness in my chest, a bit of heartburn, and the inside of my mouth felt very raw and painful. It was at its worst inside my upper lip from just inside the mouth up to the gum line. Almost like I’d been punched in the teeth. In the moment, the nausea was the most unbearable. It literally put me on the floor. I had a barf bucket ready. But, lying down for bed helped a lot with it. I also slept off the other symptoms, but my mouth still felt weird the next day. No longer painful, just weird. You know when your food is waaaay too salty to even be enjoyable at all but you eat it anyway for one reason or another? The way that leaves your mouth feeling? It felt exactly like that. But that was yesterday I'm perfectly fine today and was already back to vaping coolant this morning in the form of both WS-23 and FA Polar Blast together in an attempt at an ice cold cola vape.
edit: subject-verb agreement.
I've been vaping this dragonfruit mix I made for a friend. Actually surprised myself with this one, pretty damn tasty. Sweet honeysuckle/dragonfruit combo with a lingering raspberry.
TFA Dragonfruit 0.5%
INW Pitaya (Dragonfruit) 1%
INW Raspberry 0.5%
TFA Honeysuckle 3%
INW Cactus 0.3%
FA Pear 1%
TFA Marshmallow 0.5%
I have Steam’s Crimson Cream in one my squonks, and Dave’s Titanic in my other.
Edit Today i have my own creations burley oak & Honeysuckle Blues
I need to mix some more of that Titanic, various versions of that recipe and I had some good times together last summer. Have you tried it while day-drinking beer on a bike bar? In my experience, it goes well with that.
Not exactly I did bring it to the strip club weeks back when I went for my friends bachelor party. Its really good stuff though this is my 3rd 60 ml bottle. About to have to reorder more CAP gingerbread
Melon Twist honeydew melon chew. Tastes like the first bite of trident layers. Comes as 2 60mL unicorn bottles, so they actually fit in your pocket which is really nice. One of my favorite juices I’ve gotten in months
Just picked this up the other days and I gotta say it's pretty good. I fear for the amount of sweetener that's most likely in this juice, but it's so tasty. Jumped on here almost instantly to try and find a clone
I probably don’t even need to mention my Brigade anymore. That’s an every day thing. The other work tank has a spiced apple and bourbon thing i am working on. It’s not bad, but I think INW Bahraini Apple Gold is just too much anise for me. Even at .2% with some FLV Bourbon, Apple Filling, and even some FA Cardamom, I still mostly taste the Bahraini. It’s not unvapable though.
I did that battle of the Baccos last week, which made me want to find another ADV. Messing around with some INW Oriental for that along with some FE Tobacco Absolute, DNB, and FA Ozone. It seems like it’s decent, but the Absolute might be a little too strong for the Oriental to compete with. I did another version with INW Garuda, and that might be better. I think I realized that the reason I can vape Brigade so much is because it’s not a very complex taste so it never really wears me down. Trying to go simple and yummy again.
Here's what I have this week:
Wee Debbie 3b - 10 days steep 70vg/30pg
This was originally inspired by folkart's oatmeal cream pie that he posted a while back. I wanted to see if I could create an oatmeal cream pie myself but with my favorite flavor for a profile like this, RF Oatmeal Cookie SC. I considered putting this up on ATF, but having gotten a good portion of this from folkart I'm not sure how I feel about it. Maybe if he gives me permission I will.
MFG|Flavor|% :-:|:-:|:-: TPA|Bavarian Cream|3% FA|Cookie|1% CAP|Gingerbread|1% DFS|Holy Vanilla|0.5% TPA|Marshmallow|0.25% RF|Oatmeal Cookie SC|2.5% CAP|Vanilla Custard v1|1.5%
Cookie: I really liked folkart's idea of using CAP Gingerbread and FA cookie as the cookie base so I kept it and adjusted it for RF Oatmeal Cookie SC. RF OC SC has a great oatmeal and brown sugar flavor, but doesn't have any real cookie flavor behind it, and when backed with the FA Cookie and CAP Gingerbread it makes for a fairly authentic representation of those Little Debbie oatmeal cream pies.
Filling: TPA Bavarian Cream in this was definitely a great idea by folkart, but to get that Little Debbie version of this, I felt that it needed a little more. When I was bouncing a previous batch of this off of a friend he said that the cookie base was great, but what he always remembered about Little Debbie oatmeal cream pies was that the filling always had a little bit of a buttery note, almost oily. So I upped Bavarian Cream, added half of that in CAP Custard V1, and lastly I put in just a little bit of TPA Marshmallow. With RF Oatmeal Cookie SC you have to boost your creams a bit or else it takes over so this was a logical move as well. I agreed with him on the filling, but it almost felt like it was a buttery marshmallow filling myself. Just 0.25% is all you really need imo, just to add that hint of marshmallow taste to the creamy, buttery filling in the middle. DFS Holy Vanilla adds a delicious vanilla to to the filling, with just a hint of that granular sugar taste that you get from it over TPA Vanilla Swirl.
The Search for more Money 3a.2 10-day steep. 70vg/30pg
I'm pretty sure this is the final version. This is by no means a clone of The Downside of The Schwartz, but it's a delicious representation imo.
MFG|Flavor|% :-:|:-:|:-: FA|Bilberry|0.5% FW|Blueberry|2% TPA|Blueberry (extra)|3% CAP|Greek Yogurt|1% CAP|Super Sweet|0.33% FA|Yogurt|2.5%
If you saw my previous version you won't see much has changed. I backed off CAP Super Sweet just a bit as well, but that's really something you can adjust to your liking.
Yogurt: I wanted to try one more batch with just a little more CAP Greek Yogurt and I now think this is complete. With the dense yogurt creaminess of FA Yogurt, and just a little bit more CAP Greek Yogurt than before, you get a great creamy yogurt with just enough tartness to call it a greek yogurt. I wanted to keep CAP Greek Yogurt as low as possible because when you start using it in higher %'s you get a pretty gross off-note. It's almost like dirty socks, so 1% is more than enough, with FA Yogurt keeping it in check.
Blueberry: This is really all thanks to /u/ediblemalfunction . His Holy Trinity of Blueberry is just amazing and works great in this recipe.
Ziggisalts V1 3-day steep. 50vg/50pg
This is actually a simplified version of a recipe that make for friends. I wanted to try and adapt it for a pod system as that's what is all the rage these days.
MFG|Flavor|% :-:|:-:|:-: OSD|Baked Cinnamon Roll|5% FA|Fuji|7.5% FW|Hazelnut|2.5% FLV|Sweetness|0.5% TPA|Vanilla Bean Ice Cream|4%
This is one of those recipes that you don't know why it works, but it just does. The original idea for this when I started mixing was just an apple vanilla cinnamon roll, and it just makes for a great ADV if you are an apple/cinnamon fan like I am. I also took notes from Wayne's video that adding a little bit of sweetener, and basically doubling your flavoring, to pod recipes helps boost the flavor. After trying this and a couple other of my simple recipes I have to agree with him. Since he used FLV Sweetness I went ahead and used that as well. I've gone long enough with the notes of my previous recipes so I'll just ask you to trust me that if you like apple/cinnamon and want to try it in a pod system, this is worth a try.
How would the last recipe be for non pods? I've looked at changing the overall percentage down and even at 8% total the fuji apple is still a slightly scary 3.43%.
Even scarier still:
Ziggilicious
MFG|Flavor|% :-:|:-:|:-: OSD|Baked Cinnamon Roll|3.25% FA|Fuji|4.5% FW|Hazelnut|1.5% DFS|Holy Vanilla|1% TPA|Vanilla Bean Ice Cream|2.5%
See what I meant by idk why it works but it just does? The worst part is that it used to be even higher (this was one of my first complete recipes from like 2 years ago). I reduced the flavoring about 6 months back but I'm scared to go any further because my friends really like it, and it's ready in 3-5 days after you mix it so I can make it fast. I'll probably take a crack at it again down the road but you're welcome to play with it. If you manage to keep the profile and get FA Fuji down let me know!
I'm on my old favourite CAP VCV1 @8%. I know it's boring, but I just love it. I really should get some INW custard and try it out, because I'd love a custard vape that I don't have to wait a month for.
I got through a batch of Awesome apple pie by /u/botboy141. This is a ridiculously good apple pie mix. The pastry, filling and spice are spot on homemade apple pie, in the correct ratios. My only problem with this recipe is that there is something in it (I assume it's FA Fuji) that is really catching in my throat. It feels acidic, and kind of makes me feel like I have heartburn. This is annoying for me as I really enjoy the mix, but unless I work out what's going on, I don't think I'll be mixing it up again.
> I really should get some INW custard and try it out, because I'd love a custard vape that I don't have to wait a month for.
It's a nice custard, different from CAP V1. I started my mixes at 3% and it was surprisingly way too much for me. I now mix it between 1-2% depending on recipe etc. I mean, you can mix it at 3%, but I find it then needs other flavours to cut through The Cloy.
Been vaping my own melon kiwi lemonade. Also this lemon crumble by Wayne and this by Id10t but subbing tfa cherry extract for the cherry blossom.
TFA Cherry Extract instead of Cherry Blossom in that sounds like a very different but equally wonderful thing. I think I would have pushed it up to 5, maybe 5.5% instead of the 4% Cherry Blossom.
Fucking around with NW's vg-based blueberry pomegranate acai concentrate today. It's actually pretty good as a base but definitely needs some help in the pomegranate department tbh. Tasty profile though, reminds me of those v8 fruit fusions I used to drink all the time
I have one I'm working on now. I'm trying to make a good rum tobacco and I got close I think. 5%DNB, and 3% rum. There is still a component I'm missing but I'm sure I'll find it eventually. I was really surprised how long I had to let it seep to get rid of the off flavor from the rum.
Maybe Dark for Pipe and TA Garuda
Yeah I have dark for pipe in my list to order. I'll have to look up that TA Garuda n see what the flavor profile says about it. I'm also thinking maybe the carolina tobacco as well. It is kinda dry but with an odd sweetness that might complement the rum pretty good. Like I said still a work in progress. It took me 2 months to get the rum to taste right lol
I was thinking about this last night but Gold Ducat would be a good addition as well(maybe in place of D4P) and I think it would complement the rum. INW Bahraini Apple Gold might also be good in it. At low %s you just get a bit of that spice similar to spiced rum with the apple coming out at higher %.
IMO all of the For Pipes I've tried (Gold, Black, Dark, and Captain Jack) have been good and I have heard the Red and Cherry one were good too. The for pipes are definitely a must have in a tobacco arsenal IMO.
As for the TA Garuda its a Tobacco Absolute (similar to a NET, kind of, sort of) from INW. It is great as an additive and the one that I would use here. TA Virginia, TA Cuban, and TA Oriental are all great as well. Use them at low %'s
So putting that all together for a Rum tobacco I'd be starting with something like:
Rum, Dark for Pipe, Garuda, DNB
or
Rum, Gold Ducat, Garuda, DNB
or
Rum, either D4P or Ducat, Garuda, Bahraini Apple Gold, DNB. Maybe even just the smallest amount of either FA Honey or Liquid Amber.
As a side note I've found that French Pipe, FA Fuji, and a bit of Bahraini Apple Gold make a pretty decent facsimile of spiced hard cider fresh off the shake.
Cinnamon Toast Crunch Milk
7% Meringue (TFA) 5% Cinnamon (Flavor West) 3% Cereal 27 (Capella) 3% Milk (TFA) 3% Graham Cracker (Flavor West)
I always use a lot of flavoring in my juice so I may have added more but this is approximately the right percentages.
Steeped for about two weeks tastes exactly like the milk after two bowls of CTC.
I found a very old (December 2017) mix called connecticut brûlée in my drawer and have been really enjoying it. Back then I wasn’t too keen on tobacco vapes but was just starting to like them. Maybe now I’m more accustomed to it? Maybe the Connecticut shade has settled a bit?
I had changed it up a bit because, well, no idea what I was doing. So I didn’t have the flv bourbon or any liquor for that matter. I can’t remember why I thought that vanilla swirl would be a good sub, but I went with it. I figured it would be neutral in the mix but add some sweetness. I may sub again with Kentucky bourbon next now that I have it. But I still lack the flv bourbon.
Just finished up some of /u/ID10-T's If You Like Piña Coladas, which is absolutely perfect. I might have to make this my ADV for the summer (Fall, winter and spring too).
In the meantime, I am finishing off the rest of a bottle of Death by Strawberry. Also very good, I have a hard time tasting strawberry, and I get just enough of a strawberry flavor from this to be happy with it.
Mainly Lemon Tart Remix, Backwoods Lemonade, and a simple recipe with FA Fuji:
Flavor|% :--|:-- FA Fuji|4% INW Cactus|0.5% 10% EM|0.5%
I find that a tiny bit of cactus flavour is peeking through and not just the "juiciness", but it is not unwelcome in the mix.
Lemony Strawberry
INW lemon @2%
INW lemon mix @0.75%
INW shisha strawberry @1.25%
FA Strawberry @1%
TFA strawberry ripe @3%
INW Cactus @.5%
Vaped tons of this. I can kinda taste strawberry flavors but not as much as some do so so I went with 3 strawberries. Probably overkill, but it definitely adds something to the lemon. It's mostly lemon with a hint of strawberry to me. The strawberry is definitely more pronounced at lower temps in TC.
Simple Mint
INW natural mint @1.25%
Ws23 @.5%
Tastes like one of those Andes mint chocolates without the chocolate. Pepperminty but not like a candy cane. Needed a little cold from the Ws23 in my opinion. Still playing around with it.
At the end of April I mixed a 10 ml sample bottle of Kentucky Custard. The recipe recommends to steep it for a week, so I did that. Didn't like it, it felt way too boozy for my liking. I imagined it was going to be like a serving of mexican Flan (creamy, custardy, caramel-y) with a touch of alcohol. Not so. The booze was overpowering. Well, as you can imagine, I was naive. The glorious custard wasn't going to through after just 7 days. I set aside that bottle, and picked it up a couple weeks later. Same issue. Dang. But still I resisted to throw it down the drain. This week, month and a half later, it's what I thought it would have been!! a glorious flan envinado!!!!
But also, to counter all that custard decadence, I'm also vaping my own concoction: Apple Mint:
- FA Fuji Apple 2%
- TFA Green Apple 7%
- TFA Lemon 1%
- CAP Juicy Lemon 1%
- TFA Pear 0.5%
- TFA Menthol 2%
This is how I imagine an apple mint/halls/lozenge should taste like. Why did I chose those flavors? only because I had them and I barely use them. Besides FA Fuji, of course.
I'm vaping Cardinal right now after a 2 week steep. I tried it as a shake and vape, and then after a week, and I was a bit concerned because it tasted really weird (I wouldn't bother normally with a tobacco because I've heard they benefit from a long steep but the creator said it's ok right off the bat). Now, suddenly, it's beautiful. I can definitely see this becoming a favourite of mine.
