As always, the purpose of this thread is to gather the community to explore a category of flavor and its many uses. And it's also to have FUN!
Post recipes containing this week's Flavor of the Week, as the star or in a supporting role, with or without development notes. Talk about other people's recipes that use it. Compare and contrast different manufacturers' versions of the FOTW. Ask for help using that flavor in general or to achieve something specific, offer advice, brainstorm ideas, consider substitutions, suggest pairings... really anything at all as long as it's on topic.
#This week's flavor is: Distilled Spirits
How did that get to be the FOTW?
It was requested. If you're not interested in this FOTW, please take this opportunity and comment to request one that interests you (or send me a PM to do that).

Boy do I sure hate drinking liquor. Hate it all, really. But there’s some flavors that I can tolerate. FLV Bourbon is pretty nice. Good body and has less of an alcohol taste than it does a bourbon oak candle type of taste, if that makes sense. I don’t mean waxy or anything like that, but like it’s a bourbon flavor with oak and not really any alcohol sting. I like that. But it does irritate my throat if I vape it too much and especially if I don’t let it steep for a week or two. Used it in my recipe The Politician which was something I was working on for a bit with some NETs, but just decided to turn it in to a FLV recipe instead.
Like I just said, The Politician was an NET recipe, which was actually an NET version of American Politics which uses TFA Kentucky Bourbon. The version on my ATF right there is actually like version 7 or so, since I started working on that before I ever had an ELR account. The first public version was actually version 4 or 5. Then I revisited the whole damn thing again for mixers club, and kind of combined a little bit of all the different versions for Midterms.
So if you follow all that, we’ve got a first public version, an ATF version, an NET version that was later turned in to a FLV version, and then back around to another version. And I’m still not completely satisfied with that Midterms one, even though I got pretty positive feedback from Mixers Club.
In that whole journey to figure that sumbitch out, I also tried INW Whisky, but it’s like the opposite of FLV Bourbon. It’s like all alcohol burn. Same with FW Bourbon. RF SC Bourbon wasn’t horrible, but FLV is better for a similar taste. TFA Kentucky Bourbon I think is more usable for me though because it doesn’t kill my throat.
The only other spirits I’ve really messed with are INW Brandy and FA Brandy. I’m pretty sure INW Brandy has been discontinued, but I’m also pretty sure it was a TDM clone of FA Brandy anyway. The way I like to use it is in RY4s. It makes them taste very rich and sweet kind of. Doesn’t add any of the alcohol burn. It first came in to my radar as an RY4 additive when I was messing with my Adventure recipe. I also used it once when I was trying to make a boozy prune recipe, and it tasted pretty good, but that also involved a (basically) discontinued flavor, so there ain’t much sense in sharing that.
That’s about all I got to say about that.
Hey all, I picked up Kentucky bourbon and had read once that it pairs well with toasted marshmallow and now can’t find the recommended percentage. Can someone point me towards a place to start or a recipe that shows how it’s used? I think I flavor tested at 3% each together and felt it was pretty mild.
It works really well 1:1 in Coop's Kiwi Bourbon. I have heard that the kiwi can easily be swapped out for your favourite fruit, and it works well. /u/coop34
TFA Apricot at same % as Kiwi is my favorite fruit to sub. Most every other fruit was just meh
Nice, bourbon and apricot liqueur is delicious in a cocktail. I used to make a bourbon apricot honey sour:
- 40ml bourbon
- 10ml apricot liqueur
- 25ml lemon juice
- 15ml honey
- 1 egg white
Shake everything dry (without ice) to get the egg white nice and fluffy, then shake with ice and pour over fresh ice. Delicious in the summer.
I believe it was 2 parts Toasted Marshmallow 1 part Kentucky Bourbon. And i think it's more of a 'base', you mix that with some other stuff, not really supposed to work on its own.
To me it tastes like a weird warm sickly sweet drink, i don't really dig it to be honest.
Funny! I just found and bookmarked that thread! Here it is
I've used a few whisky flavors, rums, and so on. Generally I've noticed most flavorings for liqueurs are better done than hard liquor flavors. Flavor Monks gins are supposed to do a really good job (although if it's good enough to justify paying over Flavorah prices for FA strength, it's tough to say. À simple Irish whisky flavor would be really useful... I would love to make a single malt juice, buy getting the barley malt whisky base is key. Also, while on a wishlist - Vodka. Even if it's Stoli-grade, something for making vodka cocktails... a Schnapps flavor (which would obviously need other flavor, but still...) and a Rye whisky... and a nice Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum, and Drambuie, and...
Only messed with Kentucky bourbon. Its pretty nice to pair with tobacco vapes.
Need to try the mango colada one of these days.
I've worked only with FA Jamaica Special (Jamaica Rum). I've found most others to be personally foul. Especially the "whiskeys".
[Key Lime Mojito] (https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/64979#key_lime_mojito_by_kindground) and [Nilsson Schmilsson] (https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/57254#nilsson_schmilsson_coconut_mojito_by_kindground) are 2 mojitos that I concocted.
I have been on a cocktail juice kick lately and have tried creating a Gin Fizz with FA Gin. I find that FA gin tends to overpower other flavors and about I all I taste is juniper berry. Still, it makes for a nice refreshing summer vape.
I do enjoy FA Jamaican Special Rum and VTA Light Rum. I use both of those in a Piña Colada and in a Pineapple Basil Rum Fizz. I have also made several versions of Sea Breeze and Bay Breeze cocktail juices with VTA Russian Vodka and have about decided that the Vodka adds almost nothing to the mix. I still need to do single flavor tests on all of the boozy flavors. The samples are mixed up and will be tested this weekend.
Has anyone here tried FlavorMonks gin flavors? They are intriguing but I would love to read some VERY positive feedback before spending that much for the product and shipping to the US.
I bought FM's straight gin and tonic flavour to make last years luxury Christmas vape. It was ok but I found the juniper a little overpowering at their recommended %. I should try it again, maybe at a much lower %, maybe with Cap Sweet Tangerine and VT fizzy sherbet for a Tangerine Gin Fizz.
FM OMGin seems to be the favorite here, from what I have read. I am also interested in Vape Train's Botanical Gin which of course isn't available in the US yet. Hopefully, BCF will add it to their stock. There has to be a better gin flavor that FA Gin. Well, I hope there is anyway. Hope springs eternal.
Can I get an opinion on Whiskeys please.Looking for the best between VT Scotch Whiskey,FW Whiskey and FA Whiskey.
