Current Weekly/Monthly threads (Archive of all weekly threads):
-
Weekly New Mixers Thread - This has been and will remain the ‘Safe Zone’ for any beginner questions. While it was once the place you posted after your post was [removed] or after a Mod/Sidebar-nazi directed you there, the New Mixers Thread remains an absolute judgement free zone where there are no stupid questions and everyone there wants to help.
-
Weekly ‘Suggest a Recipe for my Flavors’ Thread - You picked a bunch of flavors that either sounded good or were in recipes that looked good but now you want more ideas for what to do with them? Ask here and get suggestions.
-

> QuickTip: Search with Flair! Reddit’s search is notorious for being terrible, which is why we have a custom google search setup in the sidebar (you might have missed that on mobile) but an easy way to find what you’re looking for when searching via reddit is using “flair: recipe” or “flair: flavor review” as it will bring up all the posts with that flair.
edit: Fixed link to the archive of all our weekly/monthly/yearly threads. So if for some reason you want to see what New Mixers were asking about 4 years ago or what recipes were being posted in 2013, now you can take a trip back in time and find out.
This is DIY-related in the sense that it's left me both humbled and hopeful when it comes to mixing. I just tried "Phantom Ravioli" by Ohmageddon E-Liquid because a fellow DIYer had it sent to me. It is spot-on a Totinos Pizza Roll. You have to get though an initial blast of basil and oregano but that fades after the first couple of hits and then you really get that rich tomato sauce and perfect warm crust, with just enough cheesiness to nail the profile. It gives me hope for the idea of savory vapes because it's incredibly, somehow, not gross. Not gross at all. In fact, it makes my stomach rumble with hunger. If it's possible for the mad genius behind Ohmageddon to create this, maybe the Thai curry recipe I'm working on will eventually come together with enough persistence and luck and be something others will want to try when they need a break from the sweeter stuff.
It's too bad /u/CWinthrop retired, he'd probably be a really helpful contributor to any savory project, especially one with tomato sauce.
I've retired, but I can still offer input. :)
/u/ID10-T, what do you have so far?
He lives!
Got any other simple savory recipes to share? I can never even seem to find the ingredients for them. I wanna do a Yakima hops mix so bad because that’s the closest thing I can find.
as a former stoner with a strange affiliation for pizza rolls i might have to try this...
Careful, it might become that vape you didn’t know you needed in your life but can’t clone. It also lingers in the atty terribly.
I too look forward to savory vapes...except the part about buying another small fortune in flavors 😩😂... Do you know if there are many more successful savory out there ?
I've been meaning to shout out /u/mlNikon for her write up on "Batch Mixing" that was originally put together for FAQ Friday but ultimately "rejected" because... it didn't answer a FAQ? But then I went on to write "Is Flavorah too Expensive?" and while I'm happy with how that turned out (it was fun to put together) I think her write up was much more useful. Go read it!
And thanks again /u/mlNikon <3
Built a shelf yesterday hoping to clear all the flavors that have been taking up my desk the last 6 months. Still wasn’t enough. Still need at least another nail polish rack. I just wanted to share that with people that can relate.
That's nice, man. I've been meaning to build something instead of buying more acrylic racks. Kinda want to build something like this but perhaps a little less intense.
You could call your mixing area the Colosseum.
I wanted an acrylic rack, but the big one I got from amazon arrived broken a while ago so I didn’t want to fuck with returning it and trying again. Couldn’t find any locally, so I just ran to Lowe’s for some wood.
Got a link to those exact nail polish racks? I've been looking at them for a while but hard to make a decision based on Amazon pics

Thanks, man. I guess I'm not the only one up early.
I've been looking at these things for a good two weeks now but they all look so similar and yet different so I couldn't decide and didn't know what X amount of nail polish translated to in ejuice bottles or if 30ml bottles would fit. Was thinking of ordering one of the wall mounted ones that holds a lot but then I realized I need my screen to see my recipes and stuff and if I did that I'd need to buy a cheap laptop or tablet which just seemed dumb.
Maybe one day I'll have a dope mixing room.
When you are making your single flavor tests do you add nic or will it cause the flavor to change? Also when I am making recipes would it change much to add .5-1% sweetener to them? Thanks
Lately I've been using a premixed base with a little cheat sheet printed on it for SFT. It's usually 2mg but gets slightly diluted from there depending on what % I'm testing the flavor at.
As for the sweetener it depends which one you're using. Some of them have a higher concentration of sucralose and some include other ingredients that can cause muting.
I got my sweetener from liquid barn with my flavor purchases.
I just ordered like 20 different tobacco concentrates... Yet still not what I needed to make Brigade 2506. I had no idea vaperstek even existed (let alone were the only ones to carry the INW concentrates I wanted) until after I bought all sorts of shit from NicRiver lol.
I've only had inw gold ducat, am4a, FA Virginia & Black Fire to work with until now, so I'm stoked. Getting a little tired of strawberry/blueberry/caramel/cake everything. At this point at least, good tobacco vapes seem like the endgame for mixing for me. We'll see where it goes.
Be warned, Gold Ducat was on the block to be rui... er... reformulated. The new stuff is bound to taste like corpse anus.
Eh, I've already got some atm of the old formulation I think (cuz its good). I'll test the new one and see how bad it is lol. I've heard mixed reports. I'm more hyped to actually have stuff to with on my Southern Cut recipe. Been craving a smoke pretty bad lately and vaping just hasn't been doing it for me, so hopefully going back to the tobacco juices will help a bit. If the reformulated gold ducat is workable for my tastes, even better. Loved the old version!
I’m pretty sure it’s already been done since the news about it came out like a year ago or more. New version seems fine to me. I bought a new bottle a week ago just so I could compare. Fortuna Strike was disappointing though. Doesn’t taste anything like the old one :/
Sort of off topic of your comment, but on topic down the thread a little, but I was just looking at some INW Black Cherry for Pipe recipes on ELR and saw your Black cherry fig recipe. Almost a year old, you reckon it’s worth a mix? Anything you would change a year later?
I would change so much! I would use FLV Fig, use JF RY4 Double instead of TFA, and add a little FA Pear to keep it a bit "juicy". I [played with] (https://alltheflavors.com/recipes/57252#yakgak_obsidian_based_by_kindground) adding fig, cherries and pear to u/enyawreklaw's Obsidian and it taught me a lot about getting what I wanted out of the available figs and cherries. I have most of them now. Lol.
I went to my local corner shop (UK) last night and noticed a glossy brochure on the counter. Turns out that it was to advertise the iqos. It was a very high quality brochure with lots of diagrams and claims about the device. The funny thing is that I've never seen anything related to vaping in that shop, they sell some tobacco but no eliquid or anything. Then, very prominently placed are these adverts right under every customer's nose. How sad, with this much money behind it I can see it being very popular.
I think it was on In the Mix that they were talking about a study coming out that the iQos has just as much bad shit as smoking in it. Shame, because I was kind of looking forward to trying it. Actually, I’ll probably still try it because sometimes I just want a god damn cigarette.
Yeah I'd give it a go but I wouldn't expect too much from it. I think I saw the same thing, I seem to remember they showed reports that it actually creates more tar than cigarettes by quite large margin. I suppose the question is whether it is any less carcinogenic or even better for you health in the slightest, maybe it wouldn't be too bad if it were better by some margin at least. However, I know so many people will pick it up, influenced by the positive signs of vaping but were perhaps too embarrassed to try it or whatever, thinking that it is safe and harmless. The health service here even promotes vaping, it will be interesting to see their stance on this iQos.
Has anyone used the TA Garuda? I'm kinda curious about it it was suggested as an ingredient in a mix for me and I cant find a flavor review for it. If anyone can direct me to one or if you just wanna give an overview of it yourself that would be great thanks.
At the bottom of this comment I went over the tobacco absolutes that I’ve used.
It’s on the lighter side of flavor for the tobacco absolutes. Reminds me sort of like a tobacco tea. When you take it up to the 1.5%-2% range it can get you a bit more of a cigarette like tobacco taste with just a hint of ash.
What's your favourite recipe to chainvape? I find most of my recipes give me vapers tongue, even when I'm drinking a coffee while I vape.
Have you checked out any of the 'What are you vaping?' threads?
Staying hydrated seems to be one of the best ways to combat flavor fatigue, IME. Also check out /u/matthewkocanda's write up on vaper's tongue.
I've never had flavour fatigue, it sounds awful. I brush my teeth three times a day and I think that helps, when I first wake up I can't taste shit until I've had a bit of coffee or brush my teeth (and by brushing my teeth I mean also brushing around my mouth, cheeks, tongue).
This thread is a brilliant idea. Few topics feel warranted for a front page post and discussions don't really belong in the questions threads. That has kinda stifled creativity and general talk about DIY here, which is something we should highly encourage! I love it!
I'll just hijack my own comment to toss a suggestion at u/ID10-T, u/mlNikon and u/CheebaSteeba for the Noted podcast.
I love the show! Super informative! However, I watch (well, listen to) it while doing some monotonous task like shaving, cleaning, mixing, and I often don't catch or just forget what specific flavor you're talking about. It's a royal pain to stop what I'm doing, wash/dry my hands etc, and try to jump to the right spot when watching on mobile, to the point where I don't bother if I'm not super interested in which flavor it is.
At least for me, it would be a huge improvement if that could be displayed as a text on the screen or just repeated before moving on to the next flavor. And if you're trying to find a specific flavor in the video, it's almost impossible to catch it just by scrolling around, you'd need the time stamps, but the text option would make it trivial. I realize this would add some effort to the production, but I for one would very much appreciate it!
Hey there, lurker wanting to get into things here. The only thing stopping me from starting is not having a lot of space to mix. I pretty much have half a kitchen table and half a shelf in a cabinet I can use for this sort of project.
What I'm asking is does anybody else make do with the bare minimum here? Any pointers appreciated
I have a small box in the cupboard rammed with flavours and I mix on space just about big enough to fit my scale on. How much space does anyone need?
/u/terracottapie honestly if you're mixing for yourself you really don't need a lot of space. I have a decently large stash of flavors and I just have them organized in cut-up cardboard boxes by overall profiles in the bottom drawer of my dresser. I have about a 2x3ft space on the corner of my computer desk that I use whenever I need to mix! Simple and small. If you keep your room nice and clean, keep your living space nice and cool and you're only mixing for yourself it's totally fine. If you're mixing large batches for friends or to sell then it's a whole different story.
I am pretty sure that someone recently mentioned something about TFA M-Type to me. I can’t remember who it was, or if they even liked it, for that matter. But if anyone loved that flavor, might want to check out Euro Flavor Burley. At 3% it’s giving me them M-Type vibes. Or at least what I remember it sort of tasting like.
Edit: found it! It was /u/baphomet. But it was more about using M-Type as a cologne, so unless you want to dab some of this Burley on your neck, this probably doesn’t help you much.
I love the smell, but as much as I like it, I kinda can't stand it, at least in a vape, but that's just my opinion -- there's a floral quality that evokes a darker oud-style cologne that really pops. Provape, back in the day when I was into buying juice, used to have a mix they called diamondback tobacco that I'm almost sure used m-type (I chased it for awhile, but never quite nailed it); Big Sky Tobacco was my other white whale that I chased but didn't use M-Type. The closest I ever came to replicating the diamondback flavor was when I found a recipe called Cobra-Byte on ATF; Good recipe, long steep though.
M-type was really strong/potent stuff (iirc, they don't make it anymore due to natural tobacco extraction regulation); I had to bag it and put it in it's own container, it reeked so hard, and required a heavy dilution to use it without dominating your olfactory sense; even then it was still super strong. I still have 15ml in the original bottle I plan on trying out in an oil-based cologne someday, though it's not anywhere near as vivid as it was when I first got it.
I'm definitely into the burley, so I'll probably pick it up -- I really love the smell of FA, but , again, it's too floral for it to be any good in a vape; But damn, does it smell nice... I'm kinda looking forward to trying the EF now -- second time, I recall, you've brought it up -- how long was the steep on your mix when you used it? Did it chill out at all over time?
M-Type was probably one of my first flavors I got, and I didn’t know shit about mixing so I probably tried it at like 5%. Somehow I survived. I eventually tried it at like one drop/10 ml and it still overpowered everything. I’ve still got a bag of a few of those first 8 ml vials from Wizard of TFA Honey and some of the old Capella tobaccos that I never used, but M-Type is gone, so I guess I threw it out because I know there’s no way I used 8 ml of it. For a while they were selling a Bitter Nut Extra flavor that was M-Type without the Tabanone, so you could buy the two separate and make your own, but it looks like TPA no longer carries the Tabanone or Bitter Nut, so the flavor is officially dead :/
The EF Burley I’ve had for about a year but just mixed up my first test a couple days ago, so I’m not sure how it’ll settle yet. But 3% fresh wasn’t disgusting, so I think it should be pretty usable around 1% in a mix with a steep. Have you ever tried INW 3 Five? It’s also got a bitter, nutty taste that I think is sort of reminiscent of M-Type, but a little more controllable. I’ll keep you updated on that EF Burley. Unless you decide to pick it up before then. It looks like I’ll be picking up a few more of the EF tobaccos since there might be some decent ones hiding in there somewhere. Their Modified Virginia seems pretty weak- can’t really taste anything at 3%. The Cigar Cuban is just floral.
Nice.
But there are stupid questions in the beginner thread...
What are you guys using for mixing beakers? I was using the ones from Nude Nicotine but the caps break easily. I would like some that the caps screw on and seal so I can shake them up, but I am having minimal luck finding them.
Just mix into your bottles?
It's a pain to shake them, not a lot of room left. I'll have to start doing that and leave a bit of room.
Any one know the name of the black and white squonk mod that Wayne Walker uses on his videos?
I don't but we can page him and see if he'll appear to answer your question ;) /u/enyawreklaw
Is ATF down for anyone else?
