Greetings fellow eJuice craft-masters.
I'm seeking some advice / help / suggestions / discussion about tartness and sweetness (creamy and fruity). I’m relatively new to DIY, and having interesting time getting that constant tart taste. While maintaining a sweet smell / afternotes.
Tart / Sweet (ADV) and Raspberry / Strawberry (ADV) this recipe I’ve been working on for a little while, and it’s very close to what I want to achieve.
I’ve been working a lot with Raspberry (TPA) and Raspberry (Sweet) (TPA). These two flavors are tricky because they smell horrible, but taste amazing (if done right ). I have found very little information regarding best use or end results about Raspberry (Sweet) (TPA), and even less about Raspberry (TPA). However, I know that these two have the tart properties I’m looking for.
I include Dragonfruit (TPA) to blend fruit together. While providing more tart to the mix. I have not worked much with dragon fruit, but have heard good things about its properties.
How I have achieved the sweet “creamy “afternotes, and smell is through Marshmallow (TPA). I believe this to be a secret weapon. When coupled with fruit. Marshmallow does an amazing job giving balance to tartness. Although, I’m still having trouble getting the right percentages.
I’m still experimenting with Strawberry (Ripe) (TPA) and Strawberry (TPA). I found either there is too much strawberry, or too little of either strawberry. I really enjoy the strawberries mixed together generally trying to achieve a 2:1 ratio. Although, I should possibly consider using just one or the other.
Basically, I am trying to achieve tart yet sweet, creamy yet fruity all in one.
That can be a booger to get right. But you seem to be on the right track. I add raspberry for a tart note as well.
If you can get it Fa raspberry is decent for that. Though raspberry sweet is good as well.
A little lemon can help as well. Fa lemon Sicily or fe lemon if you can get it.
For sweetness , a ltitle sucralose could help. Tfa marshmallow is good for sweetening as well.
There is Tfa sweet and tart. A little bit can help out. But it mostly taste like a sweet tart.
Bout all I got.
Thanks for the suggestions on flavors. I have FA Lemon Sicily on my next order sheet ( want to make some sort of lemonade ).
With TFA Raspberry ( sweet ) is there certain percentage or range that you prefer when mixing?
1% or so for just some tartness , 3% or more for an actual raspberry note. I mix kind of low though.
FA Lemon Sicily is NOT a lemonade flavor. It's more like lemon zest or a Limoncello flavor, but it can turn a actual lemonade style lemon into old fashioned lemonade rather than commercial lemonade. INW Lemon Mix does much the same, but is a bit more potent.
I would experiment with a citrus flavor as well in order to balance out the sweet. A personal favorite concentrate of mine is the TPA Green Apple, but if you are going for a cream flavor a few drops of TPA Orange Cream might do the trick. The dragonfruit is a great go to pick for mixing a nice blend of fruits.
INW Raspberry is easily one of the best, most authentic and tart raspberries I've ever had. I recently mixed up DIYorDIE's TKO clutch raspberry lemonade which uses it, and it's probably the most tart/sour mixes I've ever had
It's also prone to turning into cologne if used too heavily. And it's quite concentrated.
Yeah I have heard that.. but I haven't personally experienced it. I know it's most commonly used around 1% but the raspberry lemonade recipe used it at 2.5% and it worked excellently
INW raspberry is one of the worst flavors I've had. Makes everything taste like a raspberry blowpop that was put in a puddle with the wrapper, then you sucked on only the wrapper.
Raspberry (INW) comparable to Raspberry / Raspberry (sweet) (TFA) ?
Uhmmm. I mean you could interchange them if you wanted, but in my experience Raspberry Sweet is much weaker, seems to have maltol, and it can get covered up in the mix much more easily. It is also more of a candied flavor, almost like a raspberry flavored candy like laffy Taffy. INW raspberry is more like freshly squeezed raspberry juice mixed with maybe raspberry syrup, the kind you'd put on snow cones or in Italian soda- just without the sugary sweetness. INW seems much more authentic. DIYorDIE does note that INW Raspberry can be quite polarizing, some people do get those heavy floral/perfume notes. But if you DONT get them, then you'll probably really like it. Everybody's pallet is different though. Also this is in regards to their standard Malina version, I can't speak on their Wera Garden line
INW Raspberry turns into cologne when used at or above 1%. TFA raspberry sweet turns into Heinz ketchup when used around 5% or so.
Totally different flavors. INW can add some realistic flavor to the TFA if they're used together, but they do completely different things.
huckleberry works well in tart sweet scenarios as well. marshmellow is usually ethyl maltol it might cut too much of the tartness, you might want to try an alternative sweetener as well, sucralose or something like a pear might help sweeten it up.
Is there a source that states clearly what's inside of artificial sweeteners / flavours? Labeling on the bottles is very basic. At this point I've used very little methodology when mixing. Mostly just brute force trial and error. While reading reviews / comments about a specific flavours.
Not sure, I know they get away with a lot claiming trade secrets. check here for a breakdown, might give you a better idea of what to look for. ELR generally has some pretty decent info in the flavor comments.
I'll have to check this out. I can't remember where I found the link to SAFETY DATA SHEET Raspberry (Sweet) Flavor. While it does not give specifics. I found it slightly informative in generalities.
FA Fuji apple in low percentages (.25% or less) will bring out a bit of tartness in otherwise flat fruit flavours. It's extremely versatile.
